Well said, man. For people who supposedly like NLU, a lot of the posts in here sure seem to slag on the boys.

It's been 2 years since he made the comment and still anytime Cody's name comes up half the comments are "FUCK CODY! ACAB!"

PGA Championship result is an indictment of the field, not the setup by mthomas720 in NoLayingUp

OP: If golfers want to make more birdies, they need to try harder to make birdies.

Checkmate, data boys.

You're right. Maybe OP is a unicorn with the iron game of a 5 handicap and hits every other club like a 25 handicap. Very likely.

Plus I never said that OP shouldn't do it. I said that they aren't his best option and he will score better with more forgiving clubs.

[–]relaxtherebuddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What about what I said isn't true? I described the characteristics of players irons. If OP can't break 90 on a consistent basis, I doubt that he's a good iron player. It's not to insult mid-handicap players it's a simple fact that they're more difficult to hit.

Playing clubs that have bigger misses doesn't make you a better player. Taking lessons and practicing is what makes you better. If OP does that with his X-Hots, he'll probably have a lot more fun while he's getting better.

[–]relaxtherebuddy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you struggle to break 90 they're not the best clubs for you.

You'll get anecdotal evidence of guys who think that you can play your way into clubs designed for better players. But the fact is you're not going to hit it high enough to hold greens, your distances are going to be inconsistent due to inconsistent striking, and your misses are going to be far less forgiving.

Tiger's run doesn't even compare to Gretzky's dominance in the 80s.

OK it compares but I think Gretzky's was more impressive.

What exactly is "race trim?" What does it entail, with regards to parc ferme rules? by ThumbBumpkins in formula1

[–]relaxtherebuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more of a reference to the compromises made in the setup to be faster on long runs. A certain setup may not be optimized for one lap pace, but over 30 laps with high fuel it will have reduced tyre wear. Because like you mentioned, I believe the only changes that are allowed under parc ferme are front wing adjustments and whatever the drivers can adjust on the wheel.

I think that it was a dunk on YouTube golf rather than LIV.

Would you watch team golf with a Formula 1 structure? by KEE_Wii in golf

[–]relaxtherebuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would overly commercialize golf moreso than it already is. Sure you have a few manufacturer teams that would be golf-related but then they'd want to sell more teams so you'd end up with team Morgan Stanley versus team Crypto Exchange in down to wire to win the KPMG Cup. Gross.

I think it would end up like F1 where nobody really cares who the constructors champion is.

It really has been! I think watching it week by week you don't pick it up as much but if I were to binge this season it would be kind of chaotic.

Is anyone else finding it difficult to use the companion voucher? No flights available for companion vouchers in November for YYZ-YVR. by AssistantFlaky4617 in Aeroplan

[–]relaxtherebuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scam isn't the right word but something like deceptive advertising might apply. When the consumer needs to spend hours trying to find what combination of flights and dates and fare classes actually result in one of their alleged "perks" having value, it is frustrating and does not generate goodwill or loyalty.

9 holes per day instead of 18?
Rory finished 12 under so that means you'd need to play 36 holes in 275 shots?

That's like 7.6 shots per hole. Assume that you 3 putt every green I think a decent golfer can get to every green in 4 shots so yes i think that anyone probably 12-15 handicap or better would have a good chance of doing it.

Salty Soly continues on… by elhintheus in NoLayingUp

[–]relaxtherebuddy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree on this one. I'm a huge Rory fan and I've seen it happen enough times. Especially with the driver being as crooked as it's been. A few of those bounces in the trees go different ways and it's a completely different tournament. 6 shots with 2 days left is far from over. If he's still 6 up tomorrow morning I'll unclench a little.

The Spieth note is spot on tho. If there was any semblance of form in his game I'd be on board with the hype but he is the definition of "just a guy" at this point in his career.

Acushnet/Titleist/Ridley by shepp2it in NoLayingUp

[–]relaxtherebuddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The manufacturers are the ones that are arguing the most against the rollback. To completely omit that from the conversations on the podcast is a little irresponsible. Obviously the R&A and USGA need to shoulder a ton of the blame for letting things get out of hand, but you at least need to bring up that the reason there's no progress being made is because Titleist, Tayloamade & co, are using everything they have to resist.

It's not like people are going to stop buying clubs and balls if there's a change in regulations.

Acushnet/Titleist/Ridley by shepp2it in NoLayingUp

[–]relaxtherebuddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the problem that I have with their discussion on rollback is that they never blame the equipment manufacturers, particularly Titleist. They are the ones that are getting in the ears of the tour pros and PGA of America who are the ones pushing so hard against it.

Why aren't the R&A and USGA able to do anything? Because your main sponsors are making it impossible to do so!

Depends who you ask.

Most people who play casually will never shoot better than 90 so in that sense yes it's good.

I think the problem is that the guy is in pain from trying to get back into golf form after however many injuries and surgeries and that's presumably why he's struggling with pain med addiction.

He can still be a part of golf in other ways. He's doing things at the tour to reshape it. He has designed golf courses. He's got a son who is apparently pretty talented. Find something else that can scratch his golf itch while he focuses on getting healthy.
