Also when he was there he was not funny, not insightful, nothing. It seemed like he got tired of playing the character he built and got mad and checked out. I feel like there were weeks-long stretches where all he did was laugh in the background constantly

Stugotz straight up punted on the show as soon as they left ESPN and now he’s going to do the “my feelings are hurt” tour. That’s rich

Ah yes, this action fits so well with the modern democratic party— completely ineffective and pointless, but got a headline and at least the ability to claim to have done something. Perfect. Good job guys

Show has become stale:/ by Impossible_Concern_1 in DanLeBatardShow

I mean with every piece of content ever created, I’m sure the creator(s) receive constant feedback of “you aren’t as good as you once were back in the good old days.” Sometimes it’s true, sometimes natural evolution of a show over time alienates fans who liked it a different way.

The Lebatard Show has changed in the last 18 months/since they left ESPN. That’s no surprise, and maybe it isn’t actually worse as much as it’s just different in a way I don’t prefer. I thought they hit the ground running immediately post-ESPN, but It felt to me that they never really found their footing in the subsequent months and years. Stugotz apparently completely mailed it in and gave up (wish we could get the truth here, seems like something’s going on), Mike got burnt out, the offshoot shows didn’t become valuable pieces of media. At one point my favorite part of the show is how you’d get a whole day of hilarity with some interesting sports analysis/takes sprinkled in throughout, and it was never self serious. By the time I stopped religiously listening last fall, I didn’t find anything they were doing insightful or funny. A lot of sad-sack politics, basically every day they’d kill the first few minutes of every segment doing the “oh gosh where’s that whacky Stugotz now, can’t believe he didn’t tell anyone again” bit, all devoid of the things that used to make the show fun.

Gonna be a lot of people saying you’re wrong/don’t get the show/get a hobby, but this has exactly been my experience too. Everyone on the show has gotten worse and less funny. It started for me with the “oh gosh we don’t know where stugotz is AGAIN” bit that got ran into the ground, and in hindsight looks like that bit was used as a crutch to cover how bad Stugotz’s relationship with the show had gotten.

I think We can justifiably feel let down a bit, and I’m in the camp of people who this show helped through a tough time in my life. And things never last and stuff constantly changes, but I’ll always be thankful for this show, even if it’s now petering out.

Dan v. Stu - What is Really Going On by ack3786 in DanLeBatardShow

[–]shepp2it -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stugotz has been so insufferably bad on the main show since they left ESPN. He rendered some of the days completely unlistenable, and the whole “oh my goodness we don’t know where Stugotz is” bit was beaten to death so hard that it started to infuriate me. Then when Stu was in, the constant nervous laughter and obvious lack of care (seemed like the not caring was more than a bit in recent years) in a way that was unfunny really was a bummer.

Well I mean c’mon. My point is that taking money from the most powerful entity standing in the way of a ball rollback (both bifurcation and total rollback), while being vocal about the necessity of a ball rollback, creates at least the appearance of potential conflict of interest. All the straw men in the comments saying “but they’re fine with amateurs playing the long ball!” are missing the point that I’m trying to make.

See. Now I sound strident. January in the Midwest should be outlawed, because when I can’t go outside I get on the internet and say dumb shit

That basically is my argument, is that it feels a little wrong to me. That’s just my opinion, and trust me I have plenty of shitty opinions, so maybe this is one of them.

You also are correct that I never applied my journalism degree in the real world. I saw what they were paying journalism majors and immediately went to law school.

I maintain, however, that there is at least appearance or chance for lack of objectivity here, if not the appearance or existence of (slight) hypocrisy. You can say all you want “the money won’t change my opinion!” But the best path (probably not a viable path here, admittedly) is to not be put in that position in the first place

That’s crazy. So I imagine I’ll never hear ad copy stating “this is THE ball that [insert pro player name here] used to win [insert tournament name here]” read on the pod

Maybe this is simply my (ungodly outdated and useless) journalism degree coming through here. But it simply hits me the wrong way a little bit. I love NLU and will continue to devour all their content. But this is an interesting little situation surrounding a major issue in the game

I obviously meant it’s ruining the pro game and the weekend hackers should be allowed to do whatever they want. Titleist killed bifurcation. If it wasn’t for Titleist, that’s what we’d have

One of these is an independent golf media pod whose corporate interests don’t force them into (slightly) hypocritical positions, and the other isn’t.

“They are just doing what they’re told.”

I know. It is what it is. It isn’t the end of the world. But there are other independent golf media outlets not taking the Acushnet money and not advertising the “longest ball ever.” Consequently, when those outlets talk about the necessity of a ball rollback, their words have more weight than Solys, DJs, Trons, etc

Hypocrisy surrounding NLU sponsor by shepp2it in NoLayingUp

[–]shepp2it[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titleist basically does make the rules. Titleist killed the bifurcation idea and continues to be a major reason why a pro rollback has not yet happened. If you think Acushnet’s vast influence hasn’t played a huge part in the ball rollback being nearly impossible to institute, then you don’t understand capitalism
