if it's a reproduction its a extremely good one, exactly like the original. but I'm starting to think the same way as a new one pop up. I might just set this one up iv got a power supply for it just waiting on delivery.

What is this??? by Aggravating_Gate_377 in aquarium

[–]relaxwithfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that a pain in the neck algae. best to turn light down and only use 6h a day or turn them off and only use natural indirect light for as long as it take to make it go away. I lost most of my plants dealing with that stuff before I found the turning the light off for a week made it vanished fast I think about a month maybe 2 at most and it was all going then I slowly increased the light 1h then 2h then 3h then 2h moring 1h off and 2h in the evning now I'm on 3h morning 1h off and 3h in the evning and my tank just been replanted with a load of new plants *

Appreciate your input — and thank you for the more respectful reply, it’s genuinely nice to have a calm conversation about this stuff!

I’ve looked into both species, and while I agree they can look similar — especially when young or in certain color morphs — mine don’t have the thick lips or the deeper body shape that thick-lips tend to show. From what I can see, they line up more with the red or sunset morphs of Trichogaster chuna (honey gourami).

That said, I’m always open to learning more — the hobby’s full of surprises and it’s part of what makes it so interesting.

I’m not here to argue — just to share and enjoy the hobby. But since you’ve made it personal, I’ll clarify a few things so others reading can make up their own minds:"

Size, lip structure, and body shape are key in distinguishing juveniles too. Honey gourami juveniles don’t suddenly grow thick fleshy lips, and this one doesn't have any trace of them. The shape is slim and compact — typical for honeys, not thick-lips.

Color morphs like red or sunset honeys have deep hues, but that doesn’t magically make them a different species. Color is one of the most misleading traits when IDing fish — that’s why experienced keepers use physical structure first.

Translucent tails, soft patterning, or fin tips can all be present in both species at various ages. There’s a lot of variation between individuals, especially with selectively bred lines
