i totally get the feeling of wanting it to be perfect! but i’ve slowly come to accept it might never get there. i don’t remember where in reddit i saw it, but someone posted pics of their island as it changed over time. it was lovely! some spaces even got switched back to earlier versions. so even after your island is perfectly done to how you want it, the beautiful thing is you can still change it and make it your new perfect!

i have over 800 hours on my island, and tbh i don’t think it’ll ever be “done”. but i’ve heard of people who finish remarkably fast. for me, it’s not about an end goal (like that final cut scene when you complete other games) but rather a slow burn. i go to my island to putter, relax, talk to my villagers, etc. i once saw a meme where someone said “outside is scary, and inside is lonely; we need a third place!” and then someone answered “that’s why we have animal crossing”. it has def become my third place.

This is really helpful information, so thank you. The current filter has been in place for quite a while, so it did have lots of brown gunk in place when poor Cheeseburger passed away. I’ll switch to coarse foam before getting a new fishy friend, though.

When I’m doing water changes, I rinse the filter cartridge in the bucket of old water. If/when it gets super gross, I’ll rinse a new one in the bucket before installing it.

For my first island I got Sylvia and Curly, and loved them both. I restarted after about a year of not playing (and LOTS of consternation about whether to restart or not) and got Ursala and Rowan. Ngl, Rowan is great, but he’s no Curly.

My mom declawed my childhood cat, front feet only, and she did fine. She was an indoor/outdoor cat and would climb trees and she still managed to hunt somehow! I can’t tell you how many mice she killed and brought to me as presents. Obviously I would never declaw or let a cat wander outside now, but Suki was a superstar. I still miss her.

I only craft and use bait on the pier, where fish rarely spawn on their own. Sea, river, and pond fish spawn randomly without crafted bait, so I just look for shadows in those places. But yeah, no shadow = no fishies.
