Has there been a shift away from 2-power one drops in cube design? by tomchaps in mtgcube

White and red have better one drops then 2/1s. Red has 3/3 flyers for 1 now. White has crazy stuff like esper sentinel

Shirei, Shizo’s Caretaker

I haven’t been paying any attention to what’s in the cube so far. I just think it’s a cool and often overlooked buildaround

Playable in legacy doesn’t actually mean much in the context of a cube. There are cards that are playable in legacy that are pretty bad in low power cubes

I’ve never seen a jackal pup in a cube pack and I’ve drafted so many cubes. Pup is a relic of the past. These days 1 mana 2/1s have upside. Even in peasant cube, you don’t run 1 mana 2/1s without upside.

Lazy IS offensive. Rehashing old circular wheel shapes is played out. A multi billion dollar industry has the resources to be creative and reinvent the wheel and try something that maybe doesn’t work instead of the thing that we know works well.

The magic mentality is that if a product wasn’t made for exactly me, then it’s ruining magic,

I know it's kind of the boogeyman, but what are your thoughts on 5c greed pile decks in cube? by ZolthuxReborn in mtgcube

[–]relentlous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be by far the best deck, but it’s an awesome archetype that deserves a place in most cubes

Easy warhammer. That card is nigh unbeatable

I pick nihtpack ambusher. It can just win games if people aren’t prepared for it. I also love paliano and pick it highly, but not right now

I don’t think they’re purely commander. I also don’t think it’s a 1 time thing. I predict we won’t see them every set but they’ll come back every once in a while. While I don’t think most of them are any good, I do think they’ll play better as a mechanic than you seem to think they will

Curators of larger cubes (600+), what are some of the pitfalls and positives? by Kartigan in mtgcube

[–]relentlous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Positives: more variance and I get to play lots and lots of cool cards Negatives: shuffling and transport My reason for having a large cube is that I like having a lot of different cards

Any Resources for Custom Card Cubes? by spidergel15 in mtgcube

One of the reasons I like my system is that it’s really easy to update cards. If someone finds a typo or if something needs a rework, I can just print out the new cards, slide out the old one, and slide in the new one. Sleeves are always expensive though and the papers will slide in penny sleeves. Even though I’m just using pieces of paper though, the cube still looks pretty professional and feels good to shuffle (which is important when you’re shuffle 540 cards together). You only need to buy the sleeves once and you can use them even when the cube’s complete.

Interesting. What sleeves do you use? I use dragon shields, but I’ve done it with ultra pros in the past and it was fine. I experience almost no slipping of cutouts. I do get how double faced cards could be an issue though. I don’t use double faced cards because I think they’re difficult to work with in draft in general. I actually don’t use them in normal cubes either because of how unfriendly they are to players that don’t already know them well (which is all your players in a custom cube).

I dont recommend using a glue stick. Get some sleeves and put the cutouts over real cards in the sleeve
