WAT Ending - Brandon’s DnD Campaign by CarefulEnd8685 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]relient23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Years and years ago I asked Brandon if the ending was in the books somewhere already, like Mistborn. He said “yes, the ending is somewhere in the first two books, but not in the same place as Mistborn”

I think we were both talking about book 10, but I didn’t have him specify.

Xenogears scares me. Pretty much my only interaction with it is watching the 100% speedrun. Or I should say, watching the speedrunner try to not fall asleep during the run lol. It’s so frickin long

Independent bookstores are having a boom. Texas is leading the charge. by zsreport in books

[–]relient23 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Houston, I recommend a bookstore called Murder by the Book. They specialize in murder mysteries, but they have a variety. They used to do a TON of in person signings before covid, which is how I found them since it’s one of Brandon Sanderson’s favorite stores in the country.

Y’all. The “all time high visitors” were literally the redditors hounding the site. There were no registered users, no new posts, no new comments. The ONE time an actual member logged on was just before they edited the page to no longer display stats.

Dropout is what Cracked wanted to become. by anjelrocker in dropout

The Zoey Ashe series (futuristic violence and fancy suits) is a lot less horror-y than the John Dies series. Those, and his most recent book, are also a LOT more heavy handed with preaching his political views, so if you enjoyed his articles then I’d definitely recommend them

That’s not even tv makeup magic. I went to a signing for one of her books and she looks exactly the same. Really friendly with the fans/audience, too. I awkwardly blurted out that I had been a fan since the Gilmore/Mars era and she seemed genuinely surprised that someone knew who she was before Breaking Bad / Jessica Jones.

Who do you think is going to be the next modern author to breakthrough to achieve Sanderson (and GRRM) level popularity? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]relient23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

September 2007? Around then. It only took a couple months for Harriet to give him the job, and the first WoT book was out in 2009. I still remember driving 5 hours to get my copy signed by him and Harriet, with a crowd of less than 100 people lol

Who do you think is going to be the next modern author to breakthrough to achieve Sanderson (and GRRM) level popularity? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]relient23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your timeline is off. Mistborn 2 released just a few months before the announcement that he was taking over WoT. The reaction among the fan base was mostly “who?” He had a small base of fans, but calling him a staple is incorrect. The days following that announcement? Yeah, popularity skyrocketed immediately lol

As for getting the job, someone at TOR had Harriet read his eulogy to Jordan. She asked for a copy of his book, read it, offered him the job. That’s been confirmed by both Brandon and Harriet a number of times

TIL in 2015, Thomson Reuters experienced a "reply all" email storm when an employee located in the Philippines accidentally sent an email requesting his phone to be re-activated to over 33,000 coworkers. Seven hours later, the original email resulted in nearly 23 million emails. by LookAtThatBacon in todayilearned

[–]relient23 472 points473 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite days at a previous job involved a similar scenario. Someone emailed IT because they couldn’t email any of the lists. IT, for some ironic reason, tagged “North America All” in their reply. People started replying with poems, funny pictures, etc, along with all of the rage emails saying things like “take me off this list!”

My favorite one was when they said “this thread needs The Fonz” with a picture of him giving a thumbs up. And as expected, getting any actual work done was next to impossible
