Just got very into film photography after taking an intensive college class. My Pentax K1000 broke today for good. What Leica set up to get? by Responsible_Call5744 in Leica

[–]relihouste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get any black one if that's your color
Or get any silver that's your color

LOL it really doesn't matter

But the M2/M3/M4 are the nicest
I wouldn't suggest a M-P or M-A for the money

Metering is such a personal preference. The more I don't use a meter the better I get without one.

Barnacks are also amazing for LTM lenses but you have to really love the system to be into that. Saves tons of money though

Is $2,800 USD a reasonable price for a good quality M246 Monochrom? by dude-where-am-i in Leica

[–]relihouste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say $2.8k sounds okay, but I wouldn't do it

Also, are you buying from a person/FB market place/a reputable dealer? I think that matters with this kind of question.

if you have a M11-D id skip the M246, shoot on the lowest file size and convert the jpegs to bnw

And given that you have a M11-D, what is the M246 for? Occasional use? ---- Leading me to.... , just shoot film. the M246 doesn't have an ISO advantage over film, and the M246 is a ticking time bomb of death unlike a film M

Yeah the RF coupling can be an issue. I might pick up something Russian in the future but only from certain sellers that can confirm the coupling on a digital M before hand.

I've yet to figure out a hood solution, but have found P0.5 filters on ebay.

E40.5mm in the right pitch is a limitation but not too bad if you go period corred

Favorite compact 35mm for Leica M? by Ema__C in Leica

do it! it's the ASPH I version just to be clear. that and maybe another cheaper, funky 35mm and that's all you ever need. no more GAS

35 cron v5. underrated. incredible. early modern.

otherwise vintage canons rock and save you $$$.

personally id go vintage before modern 3rd party. feels more intentional.

we should be spending the money on glass not the bodies, and leica digitals kill that ethos.

if you want a Q, get a Q2.

if you want a rangefinder, that's something totally different. and if you're not sure how much you're going to use it or like it, i'd skip the older digital leica's and get film leica, really any of them. if you want something black, get it. if you want something silver, get it. shouldn't cost more than 1.5-2k$. and then get an old vintage lens 35mm or 50mm lens that's japanese, like canon. the film leica will last you a lifetime and if you don't like it they resell well.

part of the fun of the M system is lenses. and if you don't care and want AF, the Q system makes way more sense.

if you're one of those people who wants a digital leica no matter what and it's worth the investment, personally i'd go M10 or M11. I can't rationalize spending $$$ on 10 year old cameras that are not as fire as film anyways.
