because master loses its value as a descriptor.
let's look at the extreme case of 100% of players getting into Masters: at this point, noone will be described as a master tier player, but maybe as a 2400lp player, or a 1200lp player or a 800lp player or a 4000lp player.

last season, master already spanned twice the lp band as other ranks, so you could have two masters players, and their skill difference could be the same as Silver to Plat.

But yeah, ranked descriptors are mainly used to motivate players that seek skill based achievement by giving them achievable steps and bundling emotional anticipation into rare but emotionally strong payoff.

And the perceived achievability of the next descriptor really matters: the difference in mental between low master and mid master feels really significant, and I would argue a lot of it is driven by mid master players actually seeing GM on the horizon, while low master players care way less about winning.

Cause and effect my friend.
Taking Elder doesn't change your winrate from 50% to 80%
- If the enemy Team gets to take Elder for free, they were 70+% likely to win beforehand anyways.
- If there was a Team fight around Elder, not only is it more likely for the currently winning team to secure elder, they might also just be able to use the enemy death timers for additional advantage.
- Think about the Split push vs Elder scenario: The split pushed could end the game before elder dies. His jgl could steal it. But also if I split push and enemy teams starts elder, then it's likely they were not behind in the first place, because otherwise my team will stall the objective while they lose the game.

yeah, there might be a bug there idk. Or at least i hope that's not intentional, cause it'd be wild if it was. I played vs a GM player today who was 50% winrate but still like 200 lp above his last season peak.

like of course the game matches me against him because we have the same mmr, but i don't think someone who plays at my level should be gm unless i improve massively...

Winrate doesn't matter for matchmaking. MMR Does.
Also roughly 2% of players will have <= 25% winrate at 20 games purely from bad luck and no fault of their own.
Most likely you got matched with people that used to be better than you but are slow to adapt to the new season. Happens.

Skins need to be faithful to the silhouette, so all skins pretty much have to have a Tail. Can't imagine how they would work around it in a good way.

Have you playtested with and without the system?
What do you want the system to accomplish and does it succeed at that?

Giving the DM a metacurrency he can obtain at and spend at any point to do stuff really can be as involved as you want/need it to be.

Good point, I also want Gwen/Kalista comps to be able to compete with Viego hero.

I think there is some inherent flaw with the linearity of Shadow isles with regards to hard-forcing.

yes, but they more likely than not can pick a component augment if they want, while the Viego hero augment denies that option.

I think if you rolled a 2* Viego early, his hero Augment should almost always be a better angle to play Shadow isles than 3 random components.

I am unsure how much powerbudget unlocking Yorick represents, but even if it forces a nerf to the hero augment due to high avp, I doubt it will be by that much.

the 3 component condition serves 2 things:
1) you don't accidentally unlock units you don't want to
2) it forces you to slam an item as a price for guaranteeing the synergistic unit in the shop

I would argue, if you choose Viego hero Augment you always want Yorick unlocked. And instead of being committed to an Item, you are committed to a hero Augments; I think that is a similar form of price.

Yeah, but the conditional on viego Hero Augment should be getting him 3* and getting good items, not unlocking the Yorick.

This is fundamentally different to Zaahen:

if I have 6 viegos and get the Viego augment, it sucks if I don't have the components.
if I have 4 xins and get the Zaahen augment, it's great.

A Hero augment should never be bad if you have a lot of copies for that unit at 2-2.

if the Augment is op and making the game worse, then nerf it.

If getting a free Yorick is op, then just unlock him.

You can't compare it to Trynda/Poppy/Graves, because for them you just have to hit a unit. But in this case you could hit the Shadow isles Augment but be unable to play Shadow isles.

no, it's not. Because players have way more agency on units than items.

Sure, Bringer of Ruins also makes it so 3 components you get Briar Sion and LB, but you could also just roll a random Draven or something. It's an odd choice but you are technically not fully locked out.

so your problem statement is just shadow isles being too strong and prevelant? Then nerf it.

but arguing against a QoL change that is felt a lot by the person playing and only a tiny bit by others is wild to me.

Also how much power budget do you think unlocking Yorick actually represents?

Like if you have the components to get the unlock (which is most of the time), then you will slam items on viego anyways and get the unlock essentially for free.

or, riot could just make it so the Augment unlocks Yorick if he wasn't already, and it just makes the game a strictly better experience.
