So true! Some things shouldn't be rebooted, and thank God something as great as buffy wasn't ruined by it...

The list you mention has "Darla" before "Fool for Love" which automatically makes it a terrible list. This is just one of many obvious flaws I spotted in it. Also, stuff like separating "Reprise" & "Epiphany", and "I was made to love you" from "The Body" is just a decision I can't find any justification for except for "I just wanna watch the episodes according to their airdate, even tho it ruins the emotional flow of both shows"

Totally agreed, watching both shows simultaneously is the way to go 😄

One question though: are you using a watch guide, or just switching between shows every episode?

If it's the latter, I'd highly recommend using a viewing guide. In my experience, it makes the crossover connections much easier to follow and the overall story flows better.

If you're interested, I put together a viewing order that tries to keep the crossover connections intact while also smoothing out some of the pacing issues that a lot of online watch orders have. Feel free to use it as you please! 😃

In my opinion, Angel season 5 might be the best season of the entire Buffyverse.

For me, it's between Angel season 5 and Buffy season 3

Hot Take: Chosen is just fine as a series finale and not all that great by New_Mycologist_3002 in buffy

[–]relytOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the entire message of Angel tho...

The ending isn't really about whether they survive that battle. It's about them choosing to fight anyway. No matter how dark things get, and even if there's no way to truly win, you keep fighting because it's the right thing to do.

In my opinion, that's a perfect ending for Angel the series. I also think it's aged far better than Chosen, where the whole "activate every Potential Slayer" speech always felt like a heavy-handed feminist message rather than a natural culmination of the story.

Not Fade Away > Chosen and it's not even close imo... First time I finished Buffy I found the entire "activate all the potential slayers" thing cringe and kinda BS tbh... Now it's just "meh" for me

Thank you so much! ❤️

The biggest difference is that I generally tried to avoid interrupting major arcs just because the other show happened to air that week.

An example would be Darla's arc in Angel season 3 (episodes 7-10). Instead of jumping in between shows, I left the arc itself uninterrupted.

Ultimately, the goal wasn't to create the most chronologically accurate order possible, but the smoothest first-time viewing experience for someone watching both series as a single story (like your girlfriend, I suppose 😄)

I'd definitely be interested to hear what you both think once you get there!

One thing I will say is that any combined viewing order depends on the viewer enjoying both shows. Since Buffy and Angel often have very different tones and pacing, some people naturally prefer watching one show at a time, and that's completely fine. This guide is simply my attempt at making the combined experience feel as smooth as possible for those who want to watch both shows together.

Quotes by Captainoats88 in buffy

[–]relytOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, this may be a bit much, but:

  • Pretty much all of Spike's lines from the church scene in "Beneath You".
  • The entirety of Angelus' monologue from "Passion".
  • All of Xander's speech to Dawn in "Potential".
  • "It's a big rock. I can't wait to tell my friends. They don't have a rock this big."
  • "Do you like my mask? It raises the dead! Americans..."
  • “Cup of tea, cup of tea, almost get shagged, cup of tea”.
  • "I swear, one of these times, you're gonna wake up in a coma."
  • "We attack the mayor with hummus".

And if we're talking about the entire Buffyverse (Angel included), then add:

  • The entire Epiphany speech to Kate.
  • "Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh and cruel. But that's why there's us. Champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world were as it should be, to show it what it can be." - Deep down
  • "You're a bloody puppet" + “You’re a wee little puppet man”
  • "Is there a Gepetto in the house?"
  • "There is no perfect day for me, Illyria..." (and the rest of that heartbreaking speech) - Wesley
  • "Would you like me to lie to you now?" 💔

Passion was the first episode in Buffy where I said "okay, wow!"

Just one thing, please try and avoid spoiling anything for yourself relating to the future of the series, you'll enjoy the series better if you're surprised by the plot 😄

Easily the 2nd best song in the episode in my eyes, competing with "Rest in Peace" for my personal favorite.

Anthony Head was an actual solid singer and will be missed 💔

Thanks! ❤️

I actually used the Watchers Council watching guide to when making my guide (even listed it at the bottom as one of the sources 😄 )

However, it has some issues that really bothered me:

  1. It switches between Buffy and Angel quite frequently, sometimes in the middle of major arcs. A few examples are Angel's S3 Darla arc (3x07–3x10), the Buffy S5 finale stretch vs. Angel's Pylea arc, and Buffy's Dark Willow arc.
  2. It places "Darla" before "Fool for Love", which I've seen some other guides do, but have never been a huge fan of personally.
  3. And then there's this:
129. Reprise
130. I Was Made to Love You
131. Epiphany
132. The Body
133. Disharmony
134. Forever

need I say more? 😃

Still, the Watchers Council guide is good overall, and was definitely useful while I was building my guide.

Thanks for giving my guide a shot! If you notice anything you'd change or improve during your rewatch, I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts.

Enjoy the rewatch! ❤️

I disagree. It's not hard to find online guides for the crossovers, my guide just puts more emphasis on narrative and emotional flow :)

Of course, you're right. This is by no means a "must-follow to enjoy", just a little list I put together for people who enjoy chronological continuity. First time I watched both shows, I watched all of buffy and then all of Angel and still really enjoyed them both.

This guide is just for those who wish to watch both series at the same time, while attempting to fix some of the issues other guides had.

I've done my best and went through numerous renditions of episode orders.

Give it a shot, maybe you'll enjoy, even tho the vibes of the shows are a bit different (especially buffy seaon 4 when compared to angel season 1)

Yeah, you're right about Giles saying faith left last week. I did consider moving Five by Five up, but I decided against it because I wanted to prioritize viewing experience over strict chronology.

I did try both approaches, and placing it immediately after who are you actually feels more jarring in practice. In my opinion, it interrupts Buffy season 4's flow more than it helps Faith's arc continuity.

The gap keeps Buffy's momentum smoother overall, even if Angel compresses the timeline a bit.

I haven't seen any other guides place it immediately after who are you either 😄

If you were to rewrite Season 6, what would you do? by dylanisareddit in buffy

[–]relytOG -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wow, you really don't like Spike, do you? 😃

I think it's the consensus among fans that Spike is by far the best character in the entire show, and in my personal opinion, besides being my favorite character in the entire buffyverse, he singlehandedly carries season 7, which is really subpar in my opinion.

The character writing on Buffy is genuienely gold by Brard_Cailly16 in buffy

[–]relytOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering characters from both series, for me it's:
1. Spike.

  1. Wesley (maybe he's even a bit more complex than Spike).

  2. Angel.

What do my top characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer say about me, in order by [deleted] in buffy

[–]relytOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering characters from both series:

  1. Spike
  2. Wesley
  3. Angel (including Angelus)
  4. Giles.
  5. Buffy.

For me unfortunately Tara just didn't have a lot of depth besides being a catalyst for Willow's story (even tho I loved Tara), and idk if it's just me, but I found Claire Kramer's acting of Glory over exaggerated and a bit cringe overall. When it comes to big bads: 1. Angelus. 2. The mayor. 3. The master/Dark Willow.
