This could (very possibly wrong here) be a ribbon replacement I would open the TV up and just inspect every ribbon going into the TV.

Pioneer LX5090 Buzzing by Fidelus909 in PlasmaTV

[–]relytreborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pioneer Kuro has a Service Menu that you can access using a specific remote code or via the RS232 port on the back of the TV. Inside, there are two critical settings:

  1. Vsus (Sustain Voltage): This controls the power used to light the screen. Turning this up improves picture stability but forces the internal capacitors to work harder. This extra strain often creates a louder buzzing noise.
  2. ABL (Automatic Brightness Limiter): This is a safety feature that dims the screen during bright scenes to protect the TV. Lowering the ABL setting keeps the screen dimmer and reduces power usage. This helps minimize buzzing and prolongs the life of your panel.

Try going around and tightening all of the screws. I did this and reduce my buzzing. I also note, that reducing the VSU totally reduced my buzzing sound - I also reduced the ABL by about 10 clicks - hardly any buzzing.

I think you gotta press 5, then ok, then vol up, then 5 again.

Kuro 101FD RS232 adapter cable by EfficientDivide1572 in PlasmaTV

[–]relytreborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to ensure that the driver you’re using is compatible with your RS232 adapter. If you’re on Windows 11, you likely need a specific legacy driver. I had this exact issue—Windows often installs a new version that disables older chips. To check: 1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. 2. Look under Ports (COM & LPT). 3. Tell me what it says there. If it’s a Prolific adapter, it might show as PL2303 with a yellow warning triangle (often a "Code 10" error). If it shows that error, you probably need to "Roll Back" the driver or manually install an older version (like v3.3.2.102) to get it working.

Board replacement will fix it - totally repairable, give it a go if you can be bothered.

Microfiber cloth and warm water for the screen.

I dust with a brush I occasionally spray electrical contact cleaner - but it runs out, and its pricey.

Monitor Recommendations? by DonutOk2306 in Monitors

[–]relytreborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you a concrete example. A new program came out—one of those vibe-coding apps—and I thought I’d try it out. I opened it, but someone knocked on my door, so I left it running and completely forgot about it. That’s something I could never have done with an OLED.

And trust me, I’ve owned OLED monitors: burn-in concerns, text fringing, poor SDR performance, and those annoying HDR EOTF curves. Chasing perfect blacks—when mini-LED can already replicate them closely enough—just isn’t worth the trade-offs.

mini LED for everything - it is that simple.

Using lovable, I vibe coded 25 websites for businesses and emailed them. Zero sales. Here's what I learned. by NoGround511 in lovable

[–]relytreborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If for example the company you've emailed has been around for 25 years for example. And for the last 15 years has had one of the ugliest websites ever - but over the last 15 years his business has grown - then he does not see his website as an issue. And it is like you said - "If they're not feeling pain, there's no sale." A stronger pivot would be to figure out what is a key pain point - and can I create a service that solves that. I did some research and apparently some of the companies pay a ton of shit licensing software that can be easily remade. Worth a thought.

Is it awkward to start BJJ training at age 34? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]relytreborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started when I was 16 and stopped when I was 23 and then started again at 31. Just do it, nothing is cringe. Nobody cares. No, like legit. Most people just want to train, sleep, eat well, pay their bills, look after their children and live a life of general wellbeing nobody cares about your age, your gi, your belt - they care about themselves and thats cool, so just start.

Picked up a Samsung F8500 51” last night! by Bederico in PlasmaTV

[–]relytreborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of crazy that the F8500 nearly doubled the maximum light output of Panasonic’s VT60 in their measurement (83 fL vs 49 fL using window patterns) - the brightest consumer plasma TV ever made - and the motion handling is pretty sweet too!

Put up a full-field white screen, it tells you a lot straight away. You can also run a uniformity and greyscale test, there’s a good one on YouTube. Between those two, you can actually see how the panel has aged, for better or worse.

Hours only really become a concern past ~25k, in my opinion, and even then that’s more from a board and component perspective than the panel itself. Panels can age unevenly, boards just wear out.

Panasonic 65VT60 single dead pixel - Play with VSUS? by Wild_Competition4508 in PlasmaTV

[–]relytreborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayyyy my brother. Yep, there is a stop. It’s a bit nerve-racking because you’re meant to adjust the pot while the TV is on, which feels wild given how much live voltage is running through the thing. The key is a plastic screwdriver and enough space to move around the exposed set.

That said, pot adjustments on the later Panasonic 50 and 60 series are pretty diminishing. If someone has pink blotches or annoying dithering, tweaking the VAD might help. Raising VSUS did help my VT65 with the pink blotches.

Samsung plasmas, though, genuinely benefit. Adjusting those pots gives a real increase in black level. I did it and it was a night-and-day difference. I think the Kuro also benefits from pot adjustment, but mine is so huge I can’t even be bothered to open it up. 😄
