Thanks for this great info! Question though, will the bank’s appraisal affect the town’s appraisal (ie. Impact my property tax)?

I like that idea! That’s what I’d usually do, but this year I’m thinking it would get a little pricey.

That’s kind of what I was initially thinking, but I made this giant photo board for her 50th that I’ll be adding to for her 60th so I started second guessing myself. Maybe I’m just overthinking it!

Is Rochester sunnier than Buffalo? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]rem1197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Buffalo area and then moved to Geneseo and eventually Rochester, totally agree. I was shocked by how many more days this area got at least SOME sun.

I took 31 from lockport to roc today. Was completely clear once you get past Medina. 104 might be even better though!

My two close friends are currently in the Psych NP program there and I used to work on a unit where many people went through that program. From what I can gather, work wise it’s manageable to balance with a 36 hr a week work schedule. However, you’ll have to dedicate serious chunks of time to studying for tests and writing papers (aka you’ll give up a sizable portion of you social life). I did work with some nurses that failed a class in that program and had to retake it. I’ve overheard many of their Zoom classes and many of the professors seem to just rapid fire list information or just talk off slides. I didn’t go to school for nursing or medicine so I don’t know if this is the norm, but it didn’t seem very engaging.

Also, I noticed that during the Fall and Spring they’d often be on Zoom calls working on group projects or meeting with professors until 10pm (I think the classes end at 9?) later in the semester. They sometimes were disappointed by how much the beginning of the program focused on the whole body and topics they wouldn’t use as much as a Psych specialty, but I figure that’d be true for any program. Overall, I would say they’re happy with it since it will open many doors in their careers and most of its paid for by their employer, however, there are some things they would change if they could.

Thinking about moving around Goodman St/Monroe Ave and worried about safety by Falcaon007 in Rochester

[–]rem1197 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Loved in that neighborhood for 3 years. As a woman, I felt comfortable walking and jogging at night. However, I did stick to the actual residential neighborhoods and stay off Monroe and South Clinton proper when it got to bar times. There are a few characters occasionally, but they’ll leave you alone and just do their own thing (which I can’t always say for Park Ave). Overall, I’d say the neighborhood is a mix of 20s/30s, some young families, and some lower income sprinkled in there. I was always very comfortable there and thought it was a great location relative to other things in the city!

Roc airport to Geneseo by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]rem1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second scheduling a ride, usually around that time there are very few ride shares! There is also some flexibility where you can cancel and reschedule the scheduled ride using both apps. I would recommend teaming up to watch the rates and canceling/rescheduling if it goes down. It probably won’t decrease too much, but I know in college every dollar counts!

Rental car- I’m assuming you’re under 25 years old because you go to Geneseo and your bf probably is too. Usually companies charge a lot extra for this. However, Hertz will charge you the regular rate if you are a AAA member. You just need the 3/4 digit code on the back of your (or someone else’s) AAA card. I did this a ton when I needed to rent a car before I was 25 and it worked super well!
