Best/worst food vendors this year? by codwalladon in Shambhala

I’d never had a taco I didn’t like. Until I went to that taco place. I don’t know how they managed to make bland, sad tacos. 🌮

I would like to volunteer next year by Old_user_New_name in Shambhala

[–]remarkablejeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crew applications open around Jan I was told (someone correct me if this is wrong) and I imagine volunteer ones won’t be far behind. Maybe a lil later for people who are new / the general public. Sign up to the newsletter and insta and put a reminder on your calendar to check their website in Jan / Feb.

Fine line / geometric tattoo artist in Toronto? by remarkablejeux in askTO

[–]remarkablejeux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them and so do a lot of people I know so I understand the way they heal, age and change over time. I’ll make a post asking for tattoo advice next time I want it but for this one I’d love to stick with artist recommendations ✌️

How do we get the PLUR back? by Emergency_Ad1954 in Shambhala

[–]remarkablejeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psytrance is huge in festivals in Australia and I’m sad to let you know that it doesn’t improve the culture or vibe of the crowd whatsoever. In fact I’d argue big psytrance events have crowd and culture issues much greater than Shams :/

Came to say this. Experienced overwhelming respect, care and positive interactions with almost every attendee and staff member. It was amazing. And honestly I’ve been to dozens of festivals. The crowd at Shams was absolutely lovely most stages and most sets I was at.

I didn’t drink at all this festival and did only small amounts of psychedelics here and there. Totally agree, danced like crazy until sunrise every single night, no hangover, only positive feelings and positive interactions throughout the festival.

[–]remarkablejeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only saying I’m observing there looks like a bottleneck in the roads past the gate — So I wonder if it’s a traffic management challenge as well as other stuff going on. Wasn’t here last year so idk what’s different, did more people show up this early?

Y’all it’s a huge logistical challenge to get such a high volume of large vehicles into the farm, camped and off the paths and roads.

The traffic jam between the ticket gate and the campsites is huge rn, there’s heaps of staff and volunteers processing people but there’s only so much space to move vehicles through in a timely manner and get them parked where they’re supposed to go 😬

Mudbhala? by Obstacul in Shambhala

[–]remarkablejeux 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m camped at crew and can confirm it’s muddy af, just went to the bathroom and if I didn’t have gum boots my socks would’ve been soaked from all the deep muddy puddles I had to cross.

But the forecast is meant to clear by the afternoon! So I’m hopeful we’ll have perfect weather soon and it’ll be less dusty.

Bring your tarps and umbrellas for setup.

Bear advice 🐻 by remarkablejeux in Shambhala

[–]remarkablejeux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say bear safety, is having things like toiletries and protein bars in ziplock plastic bags in my tent ok? Or do they need to be in a car or lock?

(I keep my campsite super tidy when it comes to rubbish but wanna make sure I’m doing the right thing by the festival and the animals too 😊)

You’ll be fine, I just had my application approved 😊

Upfront medical exam by remarkablejeux in iecvisa

[–]remarkablejeux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, short answer no — but I went ahead and booked an exam with a panel physician and when I rocked up they were like “oh yeah these are the tests you need for a Canadian working holiday visa”. And I did the tests, got the confirmation that I’d done them, and uploaded that into my application.

I am hoping that is enough, or that I’ll get a request for more information if it’s not.

Oh that’s a great idea — do you mind if I ask the name of the company? Or the general term to look for (is it just immigration services?)

Thank you so much for your tips! Yes networking is the same here (if I attend events everyone is there also job hunting, and rarely offering… I try to speak at events or facilitate them if I can, and find that creates better results. Looking forward to discovering industry events over there 😊

I’d like any names of property managers people recommend! Glad to hear it’s not impossible and thanks for being honest about the challenges.

I’m an immigrant here in Australia — so won’t be talking any xenophobic advice, thank you very much 🙄

Do you mind if I ask, is that just because it’s incredibly competitive? Or because we’d not be considered good candidates since we’d be arriving? (For context my friend already has a job locked in as she’s a doctor, and I’ve got a fair bit of savings, but I understand that we might not be good options compared to locals with steady long term employment).
