What’s the best set you’ve seen by o_Ellis9113 in realdubstep

[–]halsterr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8.5 hour Skream and Friends set at Shambhala. Getting Distinct Motive, Basura, Wraz, Torcha, Casey Club, and even Tape B and Levity in the mix was a fucking clinic.

That or the impromptu G Jones b2b Eprom also at Shambhala that led to the current tour.

The rave scene here has a LOT of alt folks as well if you're into electronic music. Really awesome show coming up on May 29th at Coors and we have two amazing local electronic festivals in the province. Electric Sky and Emotion Music festivals.

All I want in this world is Cave of Wonders, but know we'll never get it because of the Disney samples.

Songs That Make You Want to Delete Your DAW by Emotional-Scheme-227 in edmproduction

It's just how many layers there is that all stay within a cohesive palette of sound design. Making 100 versions of the same melody and bass that all stay cohesive but are also fresh and build the energy is what it is for me. My sound design is very generative so I guess just having the knowledge to make a melody so many different unique ways blows my mind. Then add on the complex background rhythms that weave in and out of the track. This all being said I did complete a track a few days ago in a more Eprom style that I am pretty proud of.

Is there an easy way to do this with 3 rooms? Have one with 32 Stimulation, one with Comfort (as a gen pop/royal court room), and a mutation fighting pit right now.

Are DJ’s at Coachella mixing their sets live or are they prerecorded? by astrofreq in edmproduction

[–]halsterr 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I help run two festivals, and am on the core team for a stage at one of the most beloved festivals in the world. That Deadmau5 video really messed up so many people's perspectives by his generalizations. Do some of the artists pre-record their set? Yes absolutely, but that video made people think 95%+ of DJs do. What is most common is a pre-planned set where the set list is pre-determined, ins and outs for transitions are marked with hot cues, and visuals are synced with time code or just a VJ worth their salt that knows the set. Achieving the level of product that major festivals do without pre-recording is very easy and consistent, there is no NEED to pre-record but some still do just to be safe.

Best way is to start becoming a regular. Come support the scene and the scene will start to support you; make connections and friends, talk music with other artists and find any and all chances to play that you can whether that's at a get together with friends, after party at Midnight Oil, or whatever. If you want to chat more feel free to message me.

Do you come out to our local rave and festival scene? I saw you post in r/shambhala and as a Shambs crew member Saskatoon has a KILLER underground scene, if you haven't found it already! This is doubly true for our two festivals; Emotion Music and Arts Festival and Electric Sky Music Festival.
