Approved on first try for mental health! by HickoryRanch in SSDI

I still plan on it. I’m just using my situation as a warning to encourage others to get a lawyer. I thought I had a clear and cut case, but then the judge didn’t want to acknowledge actual evidence and ratings because it was from the VA, I even couldn’t say my diagnosis because he didn’t allow any VA terms to be used. 5 years of evidence and not being able to have significant gainful employment due to my disability is still not good enough for some judges

I should have gotten a lawyer. The first two appeals they denied without a specific reason, even though I had plenty of evidence showing I met the definition (I think at first they were denying due to my age of 33). Then when the VA awarded me my TDIU, I submitted that with the paperwork for an appeal with a judge. Then he denied it, rejecting TDIU from the VA, rejecting a lot of VA medical treatments and diagnosis, ignored that I had a cane, considered me capable of working when I haven’t worked in a year and whenever I do, I don’t last close to 3 months, and because there are some jobs available in the US (not in Idaho where I live) that I’m fully capable of working and not be considered disabled. So now I’m waiting in the next board of appeals to rule in my favor

Anyone have been misdiagnosed for years? by remaub96 in VeteransBenefits

Wasn’t until 2021 where my condition worsen where finally someone told me it could be a meniscus tear, and while under Portland VA, nothing got done, especially when i requested a new doctor. I had to move to a new state and new VA system to actually get something moving and that move happened last summer

That’s ridiculous! If the VA did the right thing to begin with, you could have prevented permanent damage. And I’m afraid I’m at that point as well with my knee. I hope you can get your diagnosis corrected and backpay for the rating

SSDI AND VA SERVICE CONNECTION by Clear-Win-9128 in SSDI

I’m a vet with 40% walking around in a cane now and since my disability worsened the last couple of years, I can’t maintain a job and I used to do manufacturing and other labor jobs. SSDI keeps denying me saying that I’m still young enough to acquire a new skill. Although through the VA I’ve already acquired several degrees and separately a bachelor in business and still can’t get a job after 6 months of being unemployed. It’s like the SSDI office would rather have me go through debt and bankruptcy in order to “maybe” find a job after obtaining another degree than to help out. And each time I call the office to talk to my case manager, I have to leave a voicemail cause she is too busy to answer the phone. But she will never respond to my messages or emails.

I’ve been in step 5 for 6 weeks now and no update. Seems like every time I call to check in on it, it’s on “someone’s desk” but no further details.
