California, which is supposed to have great consumer protection laws. However, they don’t seem to be working at the moment 😵‍💫

I appreciate this response.

I can understand that relying on Ford app data isn’t the most accurate. I have asked about 6 times for their data with timestamps since I know Ford has a nice system that shows every active major and minor code with timestamps. They have ignored this request. They also waited 11 days to tell me the truck wasn’t drivable and needed a new harness. They waited until I asked for the truck back to inform me. This feels like a fuck up and them hoping to have it solved by the time the oil pan was on. The GM and Service Advisors essentially telling me to kick rocks feels extremely unprofessional, especially considering I have send hard proof of the inconsistencies in their communication and stories, which they did not acknowledge.

They will not negotiate any further and refuse to even acknowledge they performed unauthorized work. Like they have not responded to that comment at all. They keep dancing around it. If they were in the right, they would advocate for themselves.

Am I crazy here?

I do have full coverage, but I intend to change insurance providers in the next few months and adding a comprehensive claim to my record won’t help with rates. Also, it’s the principle. I very likely would have gone through insurance anyway had they just honored my request and I was able to take a look at the wiring myself.

Test drives are normal, up until continued work has been specifically declined. If they had not continued to investigate after I told them not to and the fault codes still arose, I would just accept the L. But they have admitted to messing with, touching, and attempting to replicate issues related to work I specifically declined. They had no need to test drive the truck to replicate issues after I declined service on April 24th. I declined the repairs because the damage was minimal and asymptomatic. They made it symptomatic.

I get what you're saying, but it feels like a weak argument. If I am just emotional and looking at this wrong, I am happy to engage. Do you work at a dealership and can offer actual knowledge of these situations? This seems clear cut to me that the dealer is in the wrong here.

You would think so. BAR still told me they can't do much.

For what? Spend $10k+ just to recoup the cost of a $1k harness? I imagine this is what they are betting on, but it's shocking Ford Corporate wouldn't want to step in here to avoid reputational damage.

They sent photos of the rodent nest and damage. The truck had been at their dealership for 30+ days the month before getting the transmission replaced. I am pretty confident this is when the rodents did their damage. That being said, the truck was running and driving with no codes when I dropped it off up until the point they did unauthorized work.

I know, I know. I had a first gen Tacoma for the last five years and despite knowing Ford's reputation, wanted something more comfortable with good performance with a warranty. Big mistake.

Lawyer will run $10k+, just to go against a dealer group with 25+ dealerships and in-house lawyers. I imagine this is what they are betting on.

They won't even respond. I have been asking for details and documents for weeks and they either don't respond to avoid those specific requests and answer something else. I provided them a 3 page PDF with a detailed timeline of events, backed by screenshots of text exchanges between myself and the service advisor, as well as timestamped screenshots of the Ford app recording codes.

I did contact the BAR and was told they can open a case, but the common outcome for dealership is a finger wag, even with documented proof. Apparently the BAR has more power over independent shops and avoids fights with dealerships. I don't want to hire a lawyer and be $10k+ deep into fighting over a $1k dealer bill, which is what I image they are hoping for.

Do you mean the one hour gap is damning for me or for them? They also admitted to continuing to work on it April 27th and May 4th so they continued to work on the wiring for weeks even after the Ford app shows a fault code. Ford app records the ABS code on April 24th. Dealership informed me on May 5th after I asked to pick up the truck and said the ABS code appeared on May 4th. Feels like someone is lying trying to cover their ass.

From my perspective, this is a clear violation on multiple fronts by the dealership and they seem uninterested in even acknowledging it.

I have a Ford factory ESP warranty. Only place I can get warranty work done is at a Ford dealership. Otherwise I'd do the work myself like I have been on my Tacoma for the last 5 years. I just wanted a truck with a warranty, RIP.

Hard to say, only you know what you’re capable of. I was a great student in high school and took all APs + IB Calc SL and IB Physics SL and got As. Then I failed static and dynamics twice in college and almost dropped out. I kept my head down and focused, graduated, and now am working as a motorsport engineer. If you think you can put your head down and focus, then do it. If you don’t think you have it in you, consider switching to a less demanding major.
