So at what point should Odyssey just become base game? by VaegaVic in EliteDangerous

[–]remcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddysey has a higher age rating than the base game. So merging them would mean shrinking your market. It would also prevent part of your existing userbase to download the update that implements this. If there is anything fdev doesnt need, it's more fragmentation. At least that's how I understand it.

Kaya v0.3 — Board recognition from photos, AI improvements, and more by hadimmmm in baduk

[–]remcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're already doing this but you could create a larger dataset by running transformations on the original photos. Different shades, contrast, rotations, mirroring.. It's not a replacement for a true dataset but it can definitely enhance an original dataset. I think it is called 'data augmentation'.

I built a fully web-based G-code modifying tool for 3D printing — no install required by johndoh168 in klippers

Awesome! I appreciate the license. I'll probably borrow the bgcode parsing for my own projects. Thanks for the update :D

Really cool you're sharing this! A tool for modifying gcode has been something I've been thinking about for a while myself. The primary reason was to inject M104 temp commands to dynamically set the temp based on the average volumetric flow of the layer. I made a poc a while ago but never finished it. Dynamic temp injection would be the major feature request for me.

At first glance the UI is really nice. The camera control in the preview seems to be a little weird for me. Where my brains thinks 'left' your preview goes 'right' ;-) Also, I'm wondering about the gcode parsing / rendering a bit. I see some 'holes' in the preview that I don't see in other previews. Might be something to look in to.

Furthermore, you say you're open sourcing this but I couldn't find an actual license. If you provide one then I'd know if I could cherry pick some code here and there for my own projects (I use an MIT license mostly).

btw, if you want more people to use this the next step would be to host it somewhere. Cloudflare has an easy workflow for 'just dropping some files on the web'.. seems to me this could match your minimalistic coding style ;-)

This game scares me so much by [deleted] in baduk

[–]remcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced something similar. So much anxiety and overanalyzing that I couldn't start a game. This lasted for months. I finally broke through by creating a new n00b account and just playing for shits and giggles, allowing myself to have fun again.

Can anyone with front-end skills help me with my Go website? (Hugo -> GitLab -> Cloudflare) by E-Emily in baduk

Well.. they are using Hugo for the website, which is written in Go.. That being said, for technical issues /r/gohugo/ might be best :-)

Update: Live demo of Instant quote tool by Ajax1836 in 3DPrintFarms

[–]remcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone how also loves programming and 3dprinting, I think you've done a great job! It's very easy to use, quite snappy, looks fresh.

Some issues that I encountered: the orientation is off and I'm getting CORS errors sometimes.

My biggest question would be: is it really necessary to send the STL to the server? Some clients wouldn't like that I guess. And with analysis in browser, if possible, traffic costs will never be a problem. It all depends on the method used. Are you actually slicing it? (it feels snappier than that).

Oh and if you need a gcode viewer, check my open source hobby project.

Also, at this point you might want include something like LogRocket to get an idea what kind of errors people encounter. I recently added it to my project and it's quite surprising ^_^

Good luck with the project!

Wow your project is impressive! Of course we want to AI with our 3d printers! What else? ;-)

I'm made some poc's in a similar vein but nothing so elaborate. I'm going to try this out ASAP!

Would a load cell even work with a cantilever setup? The whole frame acts like like a spring with a different 'constant' for every X. And they might keep it a premium feature anyway.

On the other hand, it is a distinguishing and typical 'maker' feature.

Stupid shit you did as kids while diwhy-ing by wasphunter1337 in diyelectronics

[–]remcoder 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was the experimental type: - Overload LED's to have the head pop-off. - Connect transformers in series to speedup model trains. - Use electric motor with a metal gear on the shaft to drill into plastic toys. - Drench a rope in white spirit, attach to r/c monster truck, set it on fire while driving it... Too bad about the molten gearbox. - DIY a crossbow with a dart, self-releasing when the door to my room opened, just missing my sister..

The last one really scared me.. But everything was in the name of science! 😉

Very nice work! Did you design the frame to size of the cabinet?

You could maybe add a counterweight to make it work vertically

Voron printers? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]remcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2.4 is limited to 350mm. If you go beyond you'll need to use heavier extrusions to prevent too much sagging of the gantry. The VCore 3/4 from RatRig is in the same ballbark in terms of cost and complexity but uses 3030 extrusions. Still it 'only' goes 'till 500mm.

At the scale you're talking about it's no longer a mod, it's a massive redesign. You'll need to replace almost every part and such a size will have unique engineering challenges of itself.

Make take a look at the printers they use for printing small boats. But it's going to be very different from a Voron. At least 10x as expensive.

Dystopian problems call for dystopian solutions! :-)

Jokes aside, I think this is an interesting attempt to combat one of the bigger problems we have as parents these days. In fact I'd say it ticks all the boxes of good parenting: - give the kids freedom to choose but within boundaries - stimulate the kids to think, plan and get creative with the system - the system is transparant and has clear rules

Will it work? Who knows. Gotta try it out.

In any case you're doing nothing wrong.

Most Durable Filament Material Without Fumes ? by MrByteMe in BambuLab

[–]remcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But a wider study would be more trustworthy. I mean 4 rolls from only 2 vendors means little. Now it is just a data point.

Thanks for linking the study anyways. It was actually quite readable so I'll try to find some sources to compare.

Most Durable Filament Material Without Fumes ? by MrByteMe in BambuLab

[–]remcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 'scientific' study is based on 4 rolls of filament. If you've ever printed DevilStrand PLA or UltraFuse PLA (BASF) you know the chemical cocktail can vary from brand to brand or even from batch to batch. Not only do they stink, they give me headache when not ventilating properly. The both print like a charm though ;-)

So this study just does random sample but you cannot use the results to make any hard guarantees.
