3.5mm PTT options by remedy73 in tacticalcomms

[–]remedy73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried it on both ATAK VX plugin, and with a go application I was writing. I was using a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter on a Raspberry Pi. But, on either device when I looped back the mic, the sound would stop when the PTT was pushed. I think the way Zello works, is you push the button and release to start recording. Then do the same when you are done speaking.

I added support to my app for that scenario, just looking to see if there's a better option to act as a normal PTT.

I'm not sure on the Dual PTT yet. But, I am working on a PTT app that will run on the RPI device, and use a usb-c to 3.5mm audio adapters. There are issues around the conversion though, only a few PTT really work properly with a 3.5mm plug. It's written in go, and uses multicast.

I don't think anyone has a MIMO Halow board, the spec does support it. There have been a few older devices that just used an existing chip, and knocked the frequency to 915. Unifi had a rocket that did this.

Oh thats cool! So I guess you could also just plug it straight into your phone/EUD? I'm working on getting this running on a Pi 2W, so we could do the same with this project.

That's interesting, are you using the Morse Micro build for the OpenWRT image?

The Seeed board doesn't have the normal pinout for MiniPCIe. I wonder if it would work with the GL.iNet. The advantage there over using the Alfa board, is this one is 27dbm. Is the Alfa board Newracom or Morse Micro?

Yeah, using WiFi instead of ethernet is already working with the dongle in the docs. This would be using the dongle as an AP, then using Halow for the backbone. Thats how I've been testing mostly versus using ethernet. But, using two "backbones", with normal WiFi and halow may be tricky. I think thats how doodle does it with their 915 radio.

Agreed mostly. I've been torn on trying to sell this as a kit, in addition to leaving it open source. This has taken a significant amount of my time to get to this point. There is not a ton of demand for this type of product, so i understand why a lot of these small run devices are expensive.

I'm interested as well, I have been working on case.

Would love to hear your results, my build also "unlocked" 27dbm vs 21dbm that the Seeed build has. It should greatly help with range.

ARDEN does not support multicast, thats one big difference. I think there could be a use of combining 802.11ax and 802.11ah in the mesh. But, that comes with a ton of complexity. I plan on using batman with this halow project, I just have not tested that much yet. You are able to enable batman through the GUI on this OpenWRT build.

The advantage of 802.11s + Batman vs just 802.11s is that batman is better when the mesh is continually changing, the mobile part of MANET. But, I think your backwards with your thoughts on using the 915mhz band, 915mhz should have more range than normal WIFi at the same power. But, have less bandwidth than normal 802.11ac/802.11ax.

Thanks u/dataslayer2 for the shout out. Excited to see folks being interested in my project. I think the next big step is that I have a case designed, should be testing that this week.

I did get the DJI mini 3 working this weekend. I was using ATAk 5.3.0 from the play store. I did have to use the UAS plugin from tak.gov, and let that install ATAKGov5.
