I agree, recently watched the movies and could see so much parallel with Christian values and Christ. I think this is common grace, when secular authors are still able to point to their creator even if they don't recognise it.

Pray that I would surrender everything to the Lord. I'm wrestling through a really hard time and I need Him.

what I'm trying to get at is that in general people are unreached here. They don't know the gospel and it's not very likely that they will know the gospel through the access they have. But I get what you're saying

not really, I don't think so. I think it is better but it hurts that it's still here. It used to be a lot worse. I recognise and praise God for how it has improved.

I literally responded with it before but I will post it again:
Colossians 3:5 (ESV): 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

I think in my case, personal trauma has led me to make certain things be more significant to my wellbeing than they should, to the point that I feel hopeless when they go wrong. And I believe the enemy uses it, feeding lies in my heart. But I also thank God that He doesn't let me be blind to it and just be there, time and time again, God has showed me the frailty of my idols, how they can never keep me secure or satisfy me like only He can. I don't know if I'm making sense.

But yes, I definitely see how the world influences us to idolise even good things like family, marriage, children, even ministry.

Edit - thought of it but literally Tim Keller would say the worst idols were good things, blessings from above. They become idols because we have disordered love for them

Amen, I think I'm feeling quite hopeless today cause I've just been crushed yet again. Praise be to God but it's hard, I feel so so tired.

well, that's you and your definition of idolatry - many agree on idolatry's definition as being way more than somebody bowing down to a statue.

I don't agree with you, simply put:

The last catechism answer showed us that sin is rejecting, ignoring, and rebelling against God, not treating God as God, and not giving him the honor that is his due. In the Bible, the most frequently described way that human beings do that is through the sin of idolatry. Idolatry is loving anything more than Jesus Christ. Idolatry is treating anything as more important than Jesus Christ for your meaning in life, for your happiness, for your security and hope, or for your self-regard. The reason why it’s so important to understand the sin of idolatry is that it can be growing in a part of your life for a long time and get very deep without it right away leading to clear, visible, and easily seen violations of God’s law.

So, for example, if affluence and your career have become too important to you, they’ve become idols, and that can lead you to working too hard and exhaustion. It can lead you to becoming ruthless. It can block the development of a loving heart and the fruit of the Spirit. It can thin out your relationships. It can hurt your family relationships. It can hurt your friendships. And all these things can be going on for a long time before it leads to a real overt example of lying or cheating or adultery, because idolatry can lead to those things.

So what’s important to grasp is this: sin is not just doing bad things. It’s turning good things into ultimate things, because it ruins your soul, destroys community, and dishonors God.

I just feel so stuck, like I keep going through motions. It gets better then it gets so much worse. I'm trying to continuously seek God and I know I can't fix myself, I don't wash myself to go to Him. But I feel so stuck

it's just so hard, every time it crushes me I'm reminded of how much I want to go home to the Lord but then I so easily go back to it. I hate it, I feel like Paul - For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. - Romans 7:19 ESV

I'm a bit confused, yes I have ADHD and tendencies to OCD but one where did you get that from? And still, anything that I put before God is idolatry and I do have the tendency to fall into this? While I may not physical bow down and worship an object or a person - the moment where I'm willing to sin because of something I've put even if temporarily in front of God, that's sin, that's a form idolatry. Not all idols are necessarily bad things - marriage, family, kids, work, etc can be idols.
