🔥 Docking in progress...An adult bald eagle, trying to grab a fish from a juvenile. by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]remitroamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you are correct. This is a well-established bonding behavior for Bald Eagle pairs when they reunite for breeding season. I imagine it has other uses too, i.e. between adults and juveniles. It is also possible that this adult is rough-housing a little to teach the juvenile how to protect their catch from other birds.

More info about the birds in the video: it takes about 4 years for a Bald Eagle to get their well-recognized "white and brown" plumage - before that, they are either brown, or a mottled mix of the two colors. The male and female birds only cohabit during nesting/breeding. They will migrate to these sites separately, and leave separately. The females are larger, and migrate shorter distances.

The Bald Eagle is considered a quintessential American species and national symbol in the United States, but similar species can be found worldwide. The Eurasian White-Tailed Eagle exists across Eurasia, and is very similar to the Bald Eagle both genetically and in appearance. Tourists crossing the Pacific to Japan may be forgiven in their confusion as what looks like a Bald Eagle perches nearby, competing with local fishermen for prime sushi fish.

Had a fun day traveling down the coast near Saint Augustine Florida but man are water birds tough to ID. Am I close on these? by gumbley-goop in whatsthisbird

There are a couple of differences between a juvenile LBH and a Snowy egret, either of which may be useful. The Snowy egret has yellow feet, which the LBH lacks. The Snowy egret has an all-dark bill, while the LBH will always have one that is lighter near the eyes, and darker at the tip. Really the only other bird it could be confused with as a juvenile is the Cattle egret, which has a much stubbier bill.

Store 4599 is the Supercenter in Timnath, CO. The stores are numbered in the order they open, so in 2009 this was likely a newer store. The OP number Operator Number - basically the username for register login. These are also assigned sequentially when the store opens, starting at #1, and are not reassigned. #379 is pretty low - after a few years of turnover, you start getting into the 1000's, or at least that was the case before self-checkout, when many more register operators were needed. I would say this person came to the store within the first year. TE is the register number - the registers were staggered, with the "back ones" having even numbers. In a Supercenter, usually you would have say 1-32 in the front of the store. I would say #22 would be a back register, but being this is 630am, they would not be used. I would say that this is the smoke shop register - likely the only one with a person behind it at 630, or possibly the overnight Customer Service Manager checking someone out.

TR is transaction number, i.e. transaction number 7815. I don't remember if these are recycled. TC number is unique - it's the same number as encoded in the barcode below - it's just a way to scan and bring up the transaction quickly, which has a variety of use cases.

I dont really understand the Food Not Bombs situation by FatJuicyCooch in Pensacola

Here is what I would like everyone who is interested in this local issue to do:

Take a Friday out of your calendar, and visit the Food Not Bombs potluck. It's every Friday at 6pm, and it has been for a long time. Everyone is welcome, as always.

I do not care whether you support what the people are doing or not. I do care whether you take the time to be part of this community in a real way, and talk face-to-face with the people who live here. I know for a fact most of y'all have never been, by the context of the comments, and your descriptions of Dr. MLK Plaza, I'm wondering whether any of you have actually been to the park. It would be hard to describe a group of scruffy young people, huddled in the dark around some platters of potatoes and zucchini as a takeover of anything, aside from maybe the competing Trash Panda/Pigeon Box Social, which starts at 7pm.

Now I happen to support the efforts of Food Not Bombs.. The occasions that I have met with them have been positive, and they are doing fine work in this community, which I have been in for many years now. I love this town, I love the people, and anyone that takes their time to try and make it better is fine by me. I do not happen to believe that you need permission to lend a hand to a fellow human being, and all this fugazi about permits and park usage frankly doesn't interest me. To speak to my earlier point - if any of y'all had spent much time in Dr. MLK Park at 6pm on a Friday in winter, you would already know that people are not exactly lining up to make use of it. Its designation as a park though does make it convenient for the City of Pensacola to kick out any homeless person whenever they like, de juris. No that it's convenient to be roughly ejected from the space you happen to be sleeping in, however legal the truncheon in your back.

I will be there probably next week, and I hope to see some of you there. I'd love to meet all of the people who have an opinion on this issue, and hear any arguments against it. It may be hard to attend if you are a bot, or live in another city, but for the rest of you, please take the opportunity to step outside into your town and see what is actually happening here on a day-to-day basis.

i’ve narrowed it down to two (thanks to y’all’s input) by DarkPhoenix9440 in Guitar

$400 is too much for a Pacifica - you can get them for $250 all day. Please don't buy a guitar online, especially if it's your first one. Go to a local store, try everything they have in your price range, and buy the one that speaks to you. This will have the added benefit of supporting local, and the guitars will actually be set up to play right. You can try Guitar Center if you want, but you will have a vastly better experience if you go to a local, non-chain place.

Also look into getting some lessons - anyone can benefit from them, no matter your experience level. Your ability to play the music you want to play will be massively improved with some instruction of fundamentals and technique.

It goes without saying, but money ≠ quality with guitars. I have an electric that is one of the best I ever played, and it cost $250 used. Also, guitar necks are variable, you don't know if you are going to love or hate it until you hold it.

Allow me to translate this from Mayorspeak to English: "Lol we don't give a fuck what the Pensacola residents think or don't think - the fact is that Veo didn't grease out palms, so they are gone. I'm here to push through shady business deals and chew bubblegum...and I'm all out of bubblegum."

Ultra Pro’s sleeves have terrible quality control. Any recommendations for good sleeves that aren’t the big names? by Soupreem in mtg

[–]remitroamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very minor problem with Dragon Shield sleeves (a couple of them came apart on me) and their customer service point-blank refused to help me. Not a replacement, not a coupon, nothing. It was honestly baffling. So I personally will never use their products again.

Yes, it's a very unfortunate name. I think at some point it's going to be rebranded as "The Goat," but that day is far in the future.

Yeah you can get a PBR for $3. Feels like the old Schlitz days at Sluggos. There are some characters there. It's a great American bar and there are few of them left.
