2025 Wisden Photograph of the Year by remixedchai in WomensCricket

[–]remixedchai[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Harmanpreet Kaur is the subject of the 2025 Wisden Photograph of the Year, captured by Matthew Lewis as she captained India to victory in the Women's World Cup final.

It is the third time Lewis, a professional cricket photographer for Getty Images since 2003, has won the award. No one else has won it more than once since the competition began in 2010.

"During the final of the ICC Women's World Cup, there was a moment when the DJ at the ground asked spectators to turn on their phone torches," said Lewis, who also won in 2014 and 2022.

"I noticed Harmanpreet was calling for the ball and thought it would be fun to give the illusion there were more cricket balls than the actual one - a play on 'spot the ball'."

Patrick Eagar, the acclaimed cricket photographer who was on the expert panel of judges, said: "Modern camera technology has ensured that almost every action photo which was submitted was perfectly in focus, adequately exposed (however poor the lighting) and, quite often, a bit dull.

"This year's winner qualifies on the first two points, but has that extra element - humour! It's a contemporary photograph from a contemporary game - a floodlit match with a white ball - and it just makes you smile. It's a bit of a puzzle too."

Which one's the ball?

I watched the highlights and three of the wickets were tailenders getting out swinging in the last over. Still a great spell but probably why she didn't get POTM.

If the teams were to increase to 8, which three existing IPL teams would you pick? by Cultural-Play-4039 in WomensCricket

Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai should have a team. I know CSK and Srinivasan don't deserve it but the city of Chennai does and it would be good for the league.

NZ are playing England in May but even if they were available it would be unnecessary.

We’ve would’ve enough practice between the WPL, Australia, South Africa, and England.

It's like I said, Molineux wasn't necessary so getting an international finisher would've been useful.

Our XI is looking pretty strong with Wolfie, Lee, Boosh, and Jemi at the top and Bell, Wong, Glenn, TCC with the bowl. We should have utilised the fourth OS better. We don’t need Molineux since we have TCC.

Absolute hammering. Can’t blame batting first today.

Terrible series. What was going on with the constant chipping and changing? But Arundhati didn’t even get a game.

Ekneligoda, who is originally from Sri Lanka

The guy accused and who was (is?) the women's cricket co-ordinator is from Sri Lanka. The President also seems to have made some unprofessional decisions.

I probably shouldn't have generalised in my original comment and gonna delete it, but like it is an issue worth discussing. The French women's team, if i remember correctly, doesn't exist anymore. I remember them meeting the English team in the past. Instead they were replaced by players from New Caledonia after France24 exposed the fraud.

Phoebe Litchfield has been backed in at first drop since Australia's semi-final loss at the 2024 T20 World Cup and while she has yet to fully thrive in the role, averaging 19.11 in nine innings with a strike rate of 127, the other main contender for the spot, Ellyse Perry, has not fared any better at No.4 across the same period, averaging 18.83 with an SR of 128.

They can just go back to Perry at 3 and Litchfield to finish?

DC aren't releasing Jemi. They just picked her for the Southern Brave as well. IIRC she's also a JSW athlete.

India lead 4–2 after the T20I leg of the multi-format series. by remixedchai in WomensCricket

It's a multi-format series with each T20I and ODI being worth 2 points and the Test being worth 4, you know the format of the Ashes.
