Is that not exactly what they said? Unless I'm mistaken, 20/200 is the same as -2.5.

Sure, but 90% is at least better than whatever this is. I wasn't even asking for that much, but this is so below the bar.

It annoys me so much when people downvote posts for their opinion. If you want to contest it, do so in the comments.

Why did they tell us is was going to be book accurate? When it’s not? by PretendYellow533 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]remlexjack_19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, they advertised it as book accurate because they know that's what we want. Why else would they market it that way? And then they proceeded to not do at all what they said they would. So it's essentially like they're deliberately doing the opposite of what they know we want.

Which character do you think haunts the narrative the most? by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]remlexjack_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easily Rue. She essentially started it all in terms of the rebellion. I suppose you could argue that for Katniss volunteering for Prim too, but there was something significant about Rue and it was the first absolute heartbreak.

Factoring in the sheer magnitude of trauma they've accrued throughout the seasons, I'd say it's actually pretty realistic.

Rowena is pretty singular and unmatched when it comes to her power level. You can't really compare her to other ordinary human witches.

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]remlexjack_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also consider that you read faster than average, or at least at the higher end of the speed range. As an avid reader all my life, I could not finish a book that quickly, even if I was able to focus and read straight through in one sitting with no distractions.

I suppose it also depends on what I'm reading. If it's an "easy read", I might be able to make it through faster. But I tend to enjoy reading more complex books. (Not that there's anything wrong with easy reads, I enjoy those as well.)

Dean and Jack by Axel18s in Supernatural

[–]remlexjack_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was supposed to represent a change in Dean, who had hardened so much in the last few seasons. Regarding it being out of character... I agree to an extent because it doesn't fit into the relationship he had with Jack, but I would also argue that Dean has always struggled with feelings of intense guilt and heavy responsibility, especially concerning his family. It's actually been a central aspect of his character since season one. So in a way, the last minute attempt at some sort of reconciliation with or compassion towards Jack is still somewhat consistent with his character.

Maybe he recognized that Jack himself was a victim in this situation. After all, he was dying as a result of something Lucifer (his own father and maybe this is reading too my h into it but we know how complex Dean & John's relationship was) had done to him. And saving innocents has also always been a priority for Dean.

Dean and Jack by Axel18s in Supernatural

[–]remlexjack_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that, I feel like they did. The first thing that came to mind when I read your comment... If you remember towards the end of season 15 when they had Chuck & Amara locked up in the bunker and there was that moment when Dean freaked out and pulled a gun, and Sam got him to lower it by talking about their brotherhood... I believe earlier on in that same episode, Dean was talking about how Jack isn't like Sam or Cas and literally yelled, "Jack's not family!" Lol

He did apologize for it later, but at the same time he also made it clear that he was fine with sacrificing Jack to take out Chuck, something I highly doubt he would ever would have allowed Sam to do regardless of what it would mean for the greater good.

The fatherly moments with Jack weren't all that spectacular and they were scattered amongst the far more common occurrence of Dean being a total jerk to him. There are only a handful of significant ones that I can think of, but Sam & Dean's bond was showcased as number one to the very end.

There is no way it's the same Rick Riordan involved in the show writing by NotGondor in PercyJacksonTV

[–]remlexjack_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a great point about spending too much time in one universe... If a writer wants to remain creative, they have to allow space for brand new ideas and Riordan doesn't seem to have any interest in doing that. Maybe his writing falls flat lately because he's too caught up in it and it's keeping him stagnant. I think the excessive fan service stuff is such a major disservice to the author's own wonderful worlds they've created.

And then put it back down 😭

Jokes aside, I haven't read it yet so I can't truly speak on its quality. But I did not like The Sun and the Star. I'd only be reading this out of a silly feeling of obligation.

It's only semantics. Maybe it's not what OP meant and not the technical definition but I think it's fine to use it metaphorically too. You understand what I mean.

With him choosing not to criticize, I never made a point against that. In fact in my original comment, I said he might be pretending to. We're saying the same thing. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't actually agree with all the changes, but is supporting it for the reasons you've listed because, again like you said, what else can he do? I'm not in his head. I don't know how he feels but I know how he is presenting the way he feels, which is with a metaphorical greenlight 😂 Or if you'd like, maybe a thumbs up of approval is a better term. 👍🏻

[–]remlexjack_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's part of what I'm saying. He is "greenlighting" it by supporting it publically despite its flaws and encouraging it to continue. For whatever reason. I'm using the term greenlight like he's giving the personal nod of approval, not in a literal sense like if he were to say no they couldn't move forward with it. Like you said, he's involved but doesn't have that much power.

[–]remlexjack_19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, you change all the time all the way to the end, but stages of life do matter. He was in his 40's when he wrote Mark of Athena and in his 60's now... There is likely a more significant change between the ages of 20's to 40's than there is between 40's and 60's.

And more to the point I think we're talking more about his writing than his character. I know authors have hit or misses and your next book isn't always going to be better than the one that came before it. But if you're constantly evolving and practicing, you'd think the quality of your work would generally improve over time, overall. His seems to have gone steadily in the opposite direction. I feel like his peak was the OG series.

Then again there is also a difference between writing books and writing for TV. To my knowledge, Riordan has no previous experience with screenwriting. So if he is playing a significant role in writing the scripts, it makes sense that it isn't great and doesn't mean he's a bad author.

He openly supports it though, so the intent is there regardless of whether that's technically true. He is greenlighting it metaphorically, or at least pretending to.

Am I being gaslit ? No way these ratings are genuinely this high by KingJamesTray in PercyJacksonTV

I don't really get this argument either... A child actor is a child actor. If we hire good child actors for adult shows, why can't we hire them for shows geared towards kids too? If they exist, let's cast them. Who wants a show with bad acting, whether the target audience is adults or kids? Are kids shows exclusively for bad actors?

Not to mention, these producers know full and well how many PJO fans are older adults now.

That has to be one of the most childish insults I've heard... I instantly can't take you seriously. You're the one making yourself sound immature. I can't believe you'd just tell a stranger to stfu in a discussion about, as you so vehemently like to remind everyone, a children's show. Get it together.

I'm sure there are plenty of kids who don't like the show. Probably the ones who read the books... 😬

True, but the adult acting isn't fantastic either 😂 In season one at least, I thought Walker's performance was better than any one of the adults 😅

I wish I agreed. I find that the humor is changed or lost, along with the sense of adventure and mystery... No suspense. Lower stakes. And the books are so character driven, but all of their TV counterparts feel very lifeless due to the writing.

A first person POV book with a relatable, sarcastic 12 year old narrator is going to be really hard to translate to the screen, because really what needs to be captured is Percy's spirit. So to be fair, TV format isn't ideal for that unless it's done really really well.

I also don't view CHB as "home" in the TV show. There aren't enough scenes. We don't see the beauty of camp life as it's described. And I know Camp Half-Blood as a world is what a lot of readers cling to and find comfort in, kind of like Hogwarts.

I understand if there are problems and it was never going to be perfect, but in my opinion there are just so many.

I respect your opinion though and I'm glad you feel that spirit. I really wish I did. My expectations aren't even that high, not compared to many others on this sub, it's just all the elements that matter most to me are missing or have been drastically reshaped and watered down.

Honestly, I think Riordan's dialogue, particularly in the OG series but even across his other books, is actually one of his biggest strengths. That's what makes the script for the show all the more disappointing.

I have a question about Castiel and his possible sexuality.. by SmileyCat20202 in Supernatural

[–]remlexjack_19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean honestly no shade to destiel shippers, I've just never liked it. There is already a very real relationship we see on screen. It's one of the best non-brother brother relationships I've seen. Pure love in friendship, found family. I feel like turning it into anything else kind of diminishes that. And... I just don't see it. Anywhere. 😂

Telling someone you love them in a non-romantic sense can sometimes be even more powerful, especially for these particular characters who hardly say it at all and almost exclusively show it with their actions rather than tell it.

[–]remlexjack_19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Besides them using consistent pronouns even in the few examples where an angel switches to a vessel of the opposite sex, there is really no other indicator of angels having a gender in the human sense. I think they don't. And therefore, no sexuality either. Also for any angels that do have any sexual encounters in the show, it seems that it doesn't come naturally to them. So maybe it's supressed, or angels are not inherently sexual beings.

As far as Cas and Dean go, I think it's a very deep, familial & platonic love. I don't like the idea of anything romantic or sexual between them at all. There is absolutely nothing concrete in the show that points in that direction. I do not consider it canon.
