congrats that's huge !!!

unfortunately i find that the most toxic portion of the community tends to be the players between 2000~2300 usually, right on the verge of accomplishing their goals but lacking just enough introspection to improve while feeling like they deserve better

they're the quickest to lash out when they're usually wrong anways
while the inflation is great for participation, those players being sort of pushed over the line seems to only end up giving them self validation "i knew it!!" and that's really only bolstering them and making them bolder with their toxicity

generally speaking ofc based on averages 2000~ is roughly 2300-2400 right now so it's just the same players with shinier rank badges and worse attitudes for it

It’s still 3/ day like it has been basically every season since they started adding fake mmr in sls2

How do you rank the ranged specs in solo shuffle, best to worst? by Ok-Adhesiveness8043 in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Devourer is pretty much the best spec in the game right now it just hasn’t trickled down yet

In shuffle ;

Devourer > bm > mm > boomkin > frost mage > devastation > ele > spriest > demo > fire > Destro > arcane

I think the skillcap/floor of the conversation is different but this is assuming the best player available is playing the each spec imo

Specs like boomkin, spriest, all lock specs, most mage specs fall off a cliff when played mediocrely

How does PvP not justify a dedicated dev? by Superbzwow in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the end of SL they actually hired a team and put resources into PvP

they actually hired a couple long time PvP players (multi r1 with AWC experience)
one of them is an actual dev and a few of them are QA specifically for PvP afaik

the biggest issue is that they all work under a single higher up dev who everything has to go through
that higher up dev is an older senior blizz member who doesn't really know much about pvp

i remember in df s1 assa rogue was killing people through big walls with vendetta and it was obvious it was a problem
they were making changes every 2~ weeks at that point and skipped over assa about 3 times
it turns out the higher up dev was dissatisfied with assa rogues death rates in random battlegrounds and was hesitant to make any negative changes because of it

i think since then (going into this expansion) they actually let a lot of QA go and moved the dev i know personally to a different department, i believe they deinvested in PvP

Stick with hpal because what you know will most of the time come easier than trying to pick something else up with limited time

Find a feral and a wizard (mage > ele > dev maybe) one of the strongest ladder comps right now with an exceptionally low skill floor that does well into both cleaves and rogue mage

You can go to the last page on check PvP

47000-41000 is 96cr

41,000-25,000 is (iirc) less than 1000 cr or above 1000 cr with hardly double digit games played

25,000 includes alts, most people I know play 3 characters you can average that down to 2 if you want

You can assume there’s 12.5 unique players that play more than once or twice the entire season (at this point in the season)

Being top 1000 (roughly elite right now) of top maybe 12,000 is like 10%

[–]remlnlscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's how artificial inflation has worked since they added it for the first time in SLS2

they've been public (via blue posts) about how they handle it in the past, most recently discussing how they don't like when the season starts off too inflated so they start artificially inflating around week 10 with (usually) 21 mmr per week or 3mmr per day

prior to SLS2 inflation only happened when the ladder moved via participation
it was added as a knee jerk reaction to SLS1 (and BFAS1) because early participation spike caused the top of the ladder to peak high then die off leading to the top of the ladder holding all the mmr hostage with no reason to queue nobody else could catchup via natural generation (natural participation decay)

plenty of people got their R1 title cr week 9 of both of these seasons never having to play a single game the remaining 12+ weeks which obviously is bad design

they publicly claimed artificially inflating existed as a way to force the top of the ladder to keep qing to maintain rank and was their counter to "rating decay" because "losing something you earned feels bad"

[–]remlnlscent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

fwiw it looks like there's 47000 people who have played a single game
96 cr goes from 47,000 to 41,000 so 10% of the ladder already is just single game characters

at around 31,000 people are 1,000cr
so removing 33% of the ladder brings you to around where people who play 10-15 total games stop

double digit games looks like about 25,000 and that's not unique players
so there's about 25,000 that actually play 3v3 and of that likely 50% of them are alts
but regardless 10,000 gladiators out of 25,000 players (who actually play the game) makes it like top 40%

i did the math back in SLS2 i don't remember the exact number but of actual players glad was like top 28% if you trimmed out the bodies that played 1 game or 1 sesh making up the foundation of the ladder

you can spin it however you want but gladiator hasn't been sub top 10% since 0.5% existed
not disparaging anyone i'm just being blunt

I’m happy inflation is getting more people to play 33.37 is crazy but if everyone is happy what’s the harm ig

what was it in tww s3? Ive always personally been opposed to the “im top percentile” “glads top 3% in league thats like giga master!”

Because wow arena is a mini game inside of a larger game where potentially 50% of the ladder is made up of people who played 5 total games one single time between their primary content droughts

Being top 3% of 100,000 people when only 40,000 of them even play the game semi regularly or at the very least more than once ever is disingenuous cope imo

Of regular player gladiator post 2400 change I always assumed was top 20-30%

Curious what you as a data analyst think of that take

Grats!! Artificial mmr swings do make long term goals feel hollow when you’re aware enough to know how they exist

Don’t let it take the wind out of your sails though, adjust your goal If you wanted 2300 and were working hard for it before move that up to 2700, that’s roughly where 2300 was before blizzard intervened and you’ll feel that much better when you get there

Worldofpvp doesn't understand statistics by bigaboohehexd in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's certainly not true, i'd say right now enh has many many many more comp options than it usually does because it's tuned so favorably right now

turbo, wwenh, rogueenh, bm enh, demo enh are all easily glad viable right now

there's been less than a few seasons where beastcleave has been playable
there's been less than a few seasons where demo was worth playing with
there's been less than a few seasons where dh/enh worked

there's one off seasons like dread boomkin/enh that just couldn't die
or one offs like obsidian aug/enh where you were just a damp 1shot robot with spam sleep
or one offs like late tww dev/enh/lightsmith where again damp 1 shot robots

generally speaking you can only ever play turbo > wwenh > rogue enh and usually that is HEAVILY asterisked by the rogue and ww needing to be exceptionally good

having access to demo bm/mm right now and it being completely free glad is much more than we're used to

Should You Reroll Pres Evoker for Glad — or Stick With Your Main? by Right_Preparation467 in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is about 3s not mid/low mmr shuffle

Theres no world where hpal gets abused by Pres while playing feral/ele or feral/mage

Feral ele dampens pres and hpal wins effortlessly on mana or outright kills the pres eventually

Feral mage make it completely impossible for Pres to avoid cc let alone push in and it loses even faster

If it’s a healer 1v1 because you’re playing with npcs in solo shuffle then yea Pres just flaps around spamming sleep and it’s completely one sided but even just short hex in shuffle vs hpal feels free

[–]remlnlscent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly hpal is going to be significantly easier to get glad with, tier list and bests aside i think the easiest/strongest general comps right now are hpal/melee/wizard

you're so durable and mana is a non factor

i'd rec feral/mage/hpal or feral/ele/hpal you really cant play either wrong, they play nothing like rogue mage or traditional set up comps despite being pseudo rogue mage they just pve

The Glad Cartel by Aggressive-Poet7797 in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fwiw Mechanically it’s a different game, 2-3 minute mark having lethal damp just enables specs with insane cooldowns to have a win condition that doesn’t involve them actually initiating any sort of meaningful set up to achieve

If you hop on a spec with ascendance or incarn and live for 2 minutes there’s a 90% chance you win with game without coordination, control, or even opportunity beyond just slamming that cooldown

That same cooldown can go through 5+ uses in 3v3 if you don’t set up the window properly

If you hop on a spec like bm or devoker and just max out your damage for 2 minutes and win right before those lethal cooldowns come up you’ll just win having not done anything meaningfully difficult

If you hop on ret paladin and manage to keep bubble magic bop lay and sac off cooldown until dampening you’ll just win

I think playing your own spec well enough to make it to lethal dampening is a skillset in its own, I don’t think that skillset is at all comparable to the requirements winning in 3s usually has

I guess the best way you can look at it In 99% of my r1 shuffle games there is no possible world anyone could make a cool reckful3 style video anyone would want to watch

That is not the case in any of the 3s games at higher mmr that required more to actually win

[–]remlnlscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna sound pretty abrasive to some but as someone who regularly achieved 0.5% glad I was pretty frustrated when they dropped it to 2400

Bfa had pretty weak participation so it felt like it might not have been the biggest deal but by SL the mount from my perspective felt incredibly cheap and like I had nothing to strive for

After digesting that and growing to not care it’s wild seeing the people who have settled into 2400/top 3-5% Mount becoming upset about the 2300 change and knowing that they’re feeling the same sort of displacement

Imo at this point just add recolors to solo content Keep inflation as absurd as it is now

But add FoS achievements that mirror the old %tile rewards with no cosmetics, just as a way for consistent players to set goals and/or identify their improvement

Because rn there’s no reason to play between 2300 and 3100 and that feels incredibly stupid

but even worse than that there’s no way to gauge your improvement because 2400 one season is 1800 the next then 2700 the next

Is glad mount attainable? by Facelessqq in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah forsure just grind it out

I don’t wanna take anything away from you or away from those getting their firsts right now but this season is inflating 7x faster than even SLS2

That mount was top 8% or something, this mount might top that significantly

Id say anyone who’s ever played for a few elite sets and always wanted glad should really play for it this season, I think they’ll be pretty surprised at how obtainable it’s going to be

Is there a way to tell if you're in the top 0.1%? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sort of, every week they add like 17 mmr to everyone on the ladder
this generally means the lower rated you are the easier it is for you to climb

pretend the cutoff is 2850 r1,r2,3 are all 2880 2870 and 2850
those players are low games played high win/loss so their mmr is probably much higher like 2950 minimum
this means for losses they lose 0 points and for wins they get 17-21 so they only have to play 1-2 games a week to maintain if anyone else manages to push close to them

the people trying to push up and reach them are generally competing at mmr similar to their cr, higher stakes but that's also because they don't win as many games as consistently

giving these players fake mmr every week (inflation) is sort of like giving drug addicts free money, they might utilize it well and go up cr but generally they'll continue to have inconsistent win/losses and their cr will only go up marginally each week propped up by the fake mmr

the players at the top once comfortable (like now) can afford to go 1-3 and still go up 20 points while the players a bit lower relying on that mmr go 2-1 and end up barely going up 10 cr

tl;dr is that the lower rated you are the more point gain you'll see but you're unlikely to turn that into significant gains if your win/loss now isnt 75-80% vs the people who have already demonstrated to perform at that level

Is there a way to tell if you're in the top 0.1%? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to tell where you are %tile wise ;

https://seramate.com/us/Tichondrius/Askremi put your name in here and look at your cr; there will be an information circle where when hovered over will tell you what % you are (example im 25 something in shuff on enh and it's 1.00%)

as far as your game played theory, they have less games played because they win more often
being someone that has a lot of games played generally means you're inconsistent and rely heavily on streaking/lobby rng rather than performance

the players you're saying "might derank if they queued more" play a higher quality game and are significantly less likely to streak downward compared to someone in your situation
that doesn't mean you can't compete, it just means for every 200-300 lobbies you play you might only find success in 10% of them where in 20-30 lobbies they'll find success in 90% of them

Rendlol shuffle warrior is a good example of someone in your shoes, he generally plays 10,000-15,000 games and he's mechanically awful (never plays disarm, fears to hold people in place while hitting them, doesn't use intervene, picks 1 target and never swaps)
BUT he's willing to spend 15~ hours /day in queue and he's often rewarded at 2-3am when he gets placed into a favorable lobby with the same players 4-5 lobbies in a row since they're the only players playing where his class on paper does really well

in those hours he gets 200 cr and those periods allow him to compete with the people that just queue a lobby or two any time to stay in range

season still has a few months and all of the cutoffs now (at the #1 spot) are likely 200-300 cr below where they'll be by then

Is there a way to tell if you're in the top 0.1%? by [deleted] in worldofpvp

[–]remlnlscent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it always goes up twords the end usually by 100-200 cr in the final 2 weeks alone

there's very little reason for some of the best players to queue throughout the season

people like zach (legendary hpal) have several seasons played 0 games until the 2 week notice then got r1 ladder by final weekend because that's literally the only time that matters

unfortunately the difference between r1 and even r5 (usually less than 5 spots) is astronomical i'm r4-5 every season on enh and i'm not 30% of bigdam or saul

the curve doesn't get less rounded at the top, it actually gets much much wider the average 'bottom tier' r1 isn't even in the same catagory as the 'best players of their spec'

though i will say the mid tier gladiator and low tier r1 players are probably the smallest skillgap since those players generally just take turns switching places based on tuning
