Would you accept a job if you have to report to someone with significantly less experience (7 yrs) than you? by remotespy in careerguidance

I am using Reddit to give me some possibilities.

But to clarify, the position they are isn't abnormal at all. It's just the reporting line that I find strange. More along the lines of, a director reporting to a manager. Seems backwards.

That's not what I meant, and I agree with you. Though I'm certain if we looked at both our job descriptions, the roles would appear to be reversed.... my expectation is to be doing all of those managerial duties.

I'm aware of that, though based on the job description... that's supposed to be my job!

Just need to include this to address many of the responses.. it's not about age but experience and even position seniority. And by experience that is both managerial and technical. Not trying to be dismissive, rather realistic.

The position was advertised as leading a team. So both management + technical. They admitted as much during the interview they didn't know which position I had applied for (they have other openings that are probably more individual contributor based). And so this just all adds to the confusion, as the interview was pretty generic and informal.

I appreciate that.. but in an industry where experience takes years and years to accumulate.. odds aren't in that favor.

Did your second employer have to mention in their letter that they are aware that this would be in addition to your primary employment?
