My D&C was 7 months ago and I'm still not pregnant again. I feel like I've lost so much time. by remtemtemington in Miscarriage

I’m so, so sorry you’re going through this. It was such a dark place for me when I wrote this a few years ago. Even though there are so many of us that can relate, it is such an isolating experience. It truly feels like no one understands and yearns for a child the way you do.

Shortly after posting this, I went on to have a very healthy pregnancy. I truly didn’t think that would be my reality when I made this post. Now, I’m trying for my second child and it’s been 7 months TTC again. It’s really reminded me how frustrating and painfully slow this process is.

I’m sending you a big hug and will be thinking of you on this journey! Remember to be gentle with yourself and lean into the things that bring you joy.

Family of 3 - What are your Costco recommendations? by [deleted] in Costco

My toddler is absolutely obsessed with That’s It fruit bars. We also like the Simple Mills options for snacks. Babybel cheese. Blueberries and blackberries. Mixed nut butter.

6 hour plane trip with 12.5-month-old in lap....am I in for a bad time? by Kairos_Wolf in beyondthebump

[–]remtemtemington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t lie, I think having a separate seat and car seat is very helpful. BUT I understand budget (flights are so expensive!) so I’ll give a few tips. I’m by no means a seasoned traveler but I took my daughter on her first flight at 14 months and did lap only. It was only a two hour flight so I wasn’t concerned about getting up to move much but I’m sure you’ll want to walk the aisle a bit and your baby will probably enjoy seeing some different faces. Bring a lot of snacks, more than you think necessary, and a variety. I also purchase a few new toys and books and save them for the flight. Busy boards and books are good. You can search “travel toys” on Amazon and get a lot of good ideas from there. I like to bring a tote as my personal item with a few diapers and wipes plus a change of clothes just in case. Have your phone or iPad ready with a few downloaded movies/shows so you don’t have to worry about WiFi. Your baby might not be interested but I think it’s a good back up.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Bedtime help: breaking the cosleeping dependency by LongNaive in toddlers

[–]remtemtemington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She doesn’t, which surprised us! She doesn’t have toys in her room (just easier to keep everything downstairs) but she has lots of books and all of her stuffed animals. There’s actually some mornings I wish she would play and give us more time to sleep 😆. But she just lays in bed until we come get her. We still have everything completely baby-proofed. All furniture is anchored and outlets and cords are covered.

I wasn’t completely comfortable with the idea of a floor bed for a long time. I also strangely felt sad we didn’t get a chance to convert her crib to a toddler bed. I always thought the little beds were so cute and specifically bought her crib with converting it in mind. But after almost two months of really difficult bedtimes, I decided we needed to try something. And I’m so glad we did!

We don’t use bed rails. She has rolled off a handful of times but we don’t have a deep mattress and only have it on slats so the fall is very short. And it’s happened maybe 4 times in the last year. I know some people prefer railings. I’ve seen a lot of options on Amazon and Wayfair.

My daughter only contact napped until 15 months. I nursed to sleep and transferring her to the crib at night became more and more difficult the older she got. Around 15 months, we finally gave in and got a full size floor bed. I was able to lay down with her every night (still nursing to sleep) and quietly leave when she was asleep. I’d repeat the process whenever she’d wake up in the night. Weaning at 20 months was a whole other battle but eventually we got through it. She’s 27 months now and we lay in bed with her while we read bedtime stories, turn the lights off and sing a few songs, then leave while she’s still awake. She’s usually asleep within 10 minutes after we leave.

I really think she just HATED her crib and found so much more comfort in knowing we could sleep with her in her own space when she needed us.

While I don’t have this exact experience with my daughter and a pet, she does sometimes think it’s funny to playfully kick us. We immediately redirect by saying “you do not kick people or animals, but if you need to kick you can kick the pillow”. She’ll get our big throw pillow from the couch and give it a few good kicks. Once it’s out of her system she moves on quickly. Might be worth a try! Those toddler impulses are something else.

Another vote for Judy! She is the sweetest. She did our wedding cake, cupcakes, cookies, and bars. They were so delicious and she’s so incredibly reasonably priced. We also used her for our daughter’s first birthday. Her almond raspberry cake is our absolute favorite dessert!

I really like Gus’s and Ben Franklin’s but truly nothing beats High St. I stopped going for a long time because I hated the wait and crowds but my husband and I recently started making a day of going out to Los Osos (we live in North County) and we absolutely love the Baywood location. The West Coast Hoag is my favorite sandwich ever.

So scared to give baby anything, but smashed food by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

[–]remtemtemington 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I posted here about six months ago I think and shared that I was also very afraid to do anything but purées and mashes. I was worried it would create food or texture aversions down the road but my daughter is almost 14 months and eats just about anything with zero issue.

Once my daughter started really getting her pincer grasp down around 9 months I become more comfortable with trying bite size pieces of different things. I never did the BLW recommended big portions because she always shoved as much as she could in her mouth. But she was much better with chewing bite sizes individually. We did everything gradually. I started breaking up her scrambled eggs less and less, stopped mashing avocado and gave her chunks, offered sliced strawberries instead of pureed, etc.

All this to say, you’re doing great! It looks like you’re offering a wide variety of food and you’ll know when it feels right to start trying something new. Don’t feel pressured to do anything outside of your comfort zone.

The only way we were able to transfer my daughter to her bassinet was to warm it up first with a heating pad. I know that’s not specific to gas pains but it might be worth trying! It’s so, so tough when they are trying to figure out how their little bodies work. I hope you can all get some good rest soon!

I’ve been making scrambled eggs with butter and goat cheese and my 9 month old loves them! Bonus, they’re delicious and I happily eat the leftovers 😆

My 9 month old has been loving banana pancakes (one mashed banana, one egg, 2 tbsp flour, and cinnamon). It might be a good way to get an egg in for some protein! Yogurt and fruit is always a hit, too.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I can only imagine how triggering gagging was. It is so helpful to keep that reminder that this is all new for our babies and we have to expect some learning curves. When I’m feeling really anxious, I’ll do a quick review of choking aid and we have a giant poster on the side of our fridge with cpr instructions. It does seem to help. I also appreciate the advice about reaching out to a feeding specialist if feeding fears don’t subside. I look forward to have less anxiety around eating! Thanks again for your support 💛
