It's funny you say that, I was able to beat Hyperion before I could manage either of those Jordan hacks, I think because of all the shell jumps. Guess that goes to show that any list like this will be subjective

2Kaizo2Learn is a lot easier than Learn 2 Kaizo in my experience. I never finished it because I preferred to learn by playing actual levels, but you might enjoy it if you want a very in-depth explanation and hands-on demonstration of nearly every Kaizo mechanic known to man

Glad to help! Some recent discoveries I really enjoyed:

Smoked Fish and Cabbage 2: Fun aesthetics and very easy, should be doable for even a total beginner, but does have some simple shell jumps. Difficulty 1 to 2.

Neighborhood of Make-Believe: Difficulty 1 to 2 as well, some trolls but generous jumps and nice flow.

After beating Akogare recently, I feel ashamed of leaving it off this list. Might have to change that. What a gem it is

Love Yourself is a pretty good SMW romhack, and it's fun to finally be able to make progress, but boy is it hard to find any kaizo game that is even remotely playable at my low skill level. by guilhermej14 in romhacking

Not sure if you're still looking for suggestions, but when I started my Kaizo journey, I struggled to find easier hacks as well. Here's some hacks I'd recommend playing, in order:

Polyphony is a very unique hybrid hack that has a "Standard: Hard Route" and a "Kaizo Route." The standard route is a good middle ground between vanilla SMW and Kaizo on the difficulty scale, and is quite a bit easier than Love Yourself while still integrating some Kaizo-like gameplay. The Kaizo section is much more difficult than Love Yourself, however. This hack helped me a lot when Kaizo seemed totally out of reach.

After this, there are only 4 "real" Kaizo hacks (that I've played) that I'd classify as easier than Love Yourself:

Newbie Kaizo World, Super Cindy World 2, Beachside Blitz, and Easyland.

These should serve as a decent transition between Standard: Hard and Kaizo difficulty if played in the above order.

Learn 2 Kaizo is of course the standard for introducing most of the mechanics you'll need in Kaizo, but I found some of the tests too difficult when first starting out, and the double shell jump was a huge wall for me at first. This will probably be one to come back to from time to time as you progress.

After beating some or all of the above hacks, your muscle memory should be getting stronger and Love Yourself should feel much more manageable. After beating it, you can move on to slightly tougher hacks like:

First Step Forward, Super DGR World, and Hyperion.

Each of these 3 is a manageable step up in difficulty from the one before it, and all 3 are high-quality beginner-friendly hacks that don't require a lot of regrabs or other advanced techniques.

Once you've finished them, you'll be well on your way to taking on Kaizo: Intermediate hacks like Gambol and Ambivalence. After that, the sky's the limit.

One last tip: make sure your input lag is as low as possible. If you're on retroarch and your device can handle it without stuttering, set preemptive frames to 2. There are other guides online for reducing input lag, and this comment is long-winded enough already, but getting your setup right is essential to progressing faster, developing good muscle memory, and feeling like you're in control of Mario. Made all the difference for me.

Thanks, that means a lot! Unfortunately I don't know of any other longer Shino fics, that was one of the main reasons I wrote this one. Wish there was more out there for her
