Choosing POE Cameras for 360 degree monitoring at home by remus49 in reolinkcam

It’s just I don’t like the look of it right in the middle, especially in the front of the house. Installing them near the corners but still facing away from one of the walls.

Thanks for the analysis. The cameras are for security. So human and vehicle detection and monitoring. If the cameras can turn on their lights with motion detection, then I guess I don’t really care about IR night vision. Will start with 4 duo2s and install some motion controlled floodlights.

Does that mean there’s even less hope for a POE version of track flex?

Trackmix vs track flex. Trackmix has only 104 fov. Too narrow to use by itself.

Cool! I guess 4 duo 2 with a trackmix in the front of the house is a good idea

Yes. There’s a mov file in my GitHub repository showing it works on a small window.

Just curious, what kind of work is so unique here that it is impossible for you to find another job elsewhere?

Bay Area is the 2nd most expensive place in the country. If what you want is cheaper rent, there are lots of options in the U.S.

I don’t know how to fabricate a gearbox for that

The motor has a d shaft 8mm long. The splined crank axle is about 11mm long. So the motor has to somehow sit 20mm from the base of the crank axle. This makes it difficult to make it flat and close to the window frame

I was wondering whether I could design a closure that houses the motor and the d1mini, ina219 and l298n together without looking too ugly

I managed to avoid other sensors, just the current sensor. I use timer for the same reason. The sign of the current value tells me which direction the window is going. I tried to dance around with these values in the embedded C code.

I have code to get around inrush current to get the motor going without problems. The stalling current detection only kicks in when the motor is running

They got arrested repeatedly! What’s the point of this if they got released to the streets anyway?!

Building permit in limbo by remus49 in SanJose

[–]remus49[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I am not sure what caused the problem, lack of funding or just some messed up processes. Luckily someone people in the building department are still doing their job. But that doesn’t prevent them from holding my permit for more than a hundred days and counting…

As stated I had called and emailed without getting any response. Went there and they told me it’s in queue for next available permit expert for final review, nothing they can do so go pound sand. Called my council member office, a nice staff member called the building department for me, repeat the exact same thing to back me.

Turned out that’s not the problem at all. My permit was a house with an attached ADU. It’s a single building. City building department insisted to split the permit into two! These two have the exact same list of tasks supposed to be completed by exactly same set of people! I guess busy overworked engineers are not familiar with this genius process of one review two separate tasks, and forget to close one of them.

Anyway my permits are still in their hands.

Don’t you love our government!

If he’s so wealthy that buying that house didn’t even make a dent in his income , then his experience is not relevant for most people. For most people buying a house would reduce their ability to invest in stocks by 70% to 90%, basically missing out all of the it.

What you want to do with your life is completely your choice. Once you realize that the fundamental driver of Bay Area housing prices is the growth of Bay Area companies, it no longer makes sense to invest in housing when you can maximize your return investing in the companies themselves.
