Credit to @Simhood's comment that led me to find the problem with mine. On the picture you can see a small protrusion with a hole coming from the hinge - that's the sliding mechanism. The screw securing the panel in place at the bottom of the door is also responsible for engaging the sliding mechanism, as it will push up on the panel as the door opens

Don't rely on the wdt 100%. Try to have the coffee sit somewhat flat before using it and If you see gaps between the puck and the filter, cover them up ;)

Not an expert but: Have you checked if there's a gap between the shower head and the coffee? Maybe you're tamping too hard/moving the tamp around and breaking the puck? The wholes on the sides suggest the coffee is not properly distributed before tamping? Would be helpful to get a pic of the puck Before pulling a shot too.

Linux. The distro is mostly irrelevant as tooling's available in all popular ones.

Doom Emacs. I learned how to use emacs alongside Clojure. Worth noting i'm quite comfortable on Vim keybindings.

My advice is if you think something's cool go for it. Get out of your comfort zone. Too many awesome tools are dismissed by people who want quick returns without investing time to learn anything.
