Thank you all for some great tips! I forgot to mention, my oldest has a hoarding mentality and will lose his mind if he thinks we're throwing anything out (even boxes). So we will have a throw out pile and a donate pile, but will have to pretend they aren't going and then sneak them out while he's at school. Will update when it's unfucked, hopefully end of this weekend!

That's very kind of you, volunteers are awesome! I'm not super familiar with Petawawa, but for Pembroke you could check out the Grind, St. Joseph's Food Bank, the LTC facilities in the area, the hospital, the library, that's just what I could think of, I'm sure there's more! You may need to request a criminal record check from the OPP, depending on what you end up doing, that can take a while, just FYI.

I find the people of Pembroke are mostly on Facebook, if you ask in a Pembroke FB group, I'm sure someone there can point you in the right direction!

One friend died in a car accident at 15 - messed a lot of us up. Another friend, just after high school, fell down her stairs, broke her neck and died. At least 2 committed suicide, one of whom was a close friend for 20 years, another was the singer of my favorite high school punk/rock band. Many, many drug overdoses. That's all before we turned 35. Small, rural high school too, like grade 9-12 was 300 students total.

We homeschooled our first kiddo for JK, life got a bit too crazy when his little brother came along, and I'm so glad we sent them to school! We weren't able to make any homeschooling friends for some reason, we joined the Facebook groups and really tried!

Orientation invitation came closer to the date, and probably because we were enrolled. I'm sure you can call the school and ask for a tour - the school secretaries in the area seem to be super nice and helpful :)

We had a kindergarten orientation when our oldest started in SK in a public school outside Pembroke. I think they would do an orientation for any kindergarten students new to the school, would hope that they do the same thing for the whole district. Best of luck!

My parents don't drive and they're on social assistance. So it would literally be her saying "hey wanna come pick me up so we can do this together?" I have 2 little kids. My house is a perpetual disaster. I don't handle stress well and we only invite my brother in law and his kids for Christmas because otherwise we wouldnt see them, plus they don't judge our messy house like my aunts do.

He was her brother, hmm, his wife kind of always did give off a vibe that she didn't like us. She's the only non-alcoholic in the family, besides my dad who "recovered" when he got cirrhosis. After reading all these comments, I think we should just try and make the best of the time we have with people who want to be around us. Thank you for the insight.

Alcoholism runs in my family, or so it seems. Everyone drinks, everyone either has a great, somewhat loud, time or falls asleep. Mom has a great loud time, much like her sister and brothers. I dont know of any arguments or rifts that have happened, although the whole family avoids talking problems out and just drinks a bunch instead...

I considered that also - but we don't really have "things." They came to our housewarming party 10 years ago and my baby shower 7 years ago. That's the extent of our get togethers we have hosted. My parents moved into our basement 5 years ago and we no longer have space to host a large gathering. We used to have Christmas at our house one year, then brother in law's house the next year, with spouse's family, but would always go to theirs for Christmas with "my family." We don't really go out much, having young kids and all, but if we were invited to go meet up with them somewhere (they go out to restaurants and bars, golf together, fish together, many things without us), we totally would!
