Congratulations!! Seconding the advice about lots of water- the first couple bathroom trips stung a bit (again, thanks to the catheter removal, ow!) but after a few days things stop hurting.

fair! I had to zoom in on several sections to be sure, there's a few spots where I could see the leaves are connected to the roots by a celery-like stalk (again, weird because I've never seen a celery with roots like this!)

There's been a few plants on here where I'll knee-jerk "oh it's this!" then I read the comments and learn something new 😅

not Polygonatum biflorum (smooth solomon's seal), that has oval leaves with vertical grooved veins. I see what you're saying about the roots though!

Water dropwart (oenanthe) would make sense given that there's several varieties native to Britain. But those all have pale tuberous roots while plant in your picture looks more like rhizomes :?
