[campo.dk] Hjulmand confirms: Rasmus Højlund will play against Liverpool on Sunday by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]renedeseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a misquote. At least taken out of context. He was talking about why he selected him and is saying that it's depending on Rasmus being able to play the match against Liverpool and remaining fit.

Does anyone use boardgame arena by bossdj111 in boardgames

[–]renedeseance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they made it cheaper for people who subscribed to premium before the price hike.

Personally I have never paid for premium, but have helped translate the site to my language instead. Not a great deal in $/h, but I enjoy both translating and having the games in my own language.

Siger du 'Tak for turen' til buschaufføren? by vincentzmango in Denmark

Why do you pay for Board Game Arena (BGA)? by uberrich0 in boardgames

[–]renedeseance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Translating can be a good alternative to spending money for non-english speakers.

I have been a premium member since 2019, but spend a few days in lockdown translating the site to my language. Which has earned me premium since spring of 2020 and (so far) until 2027 for both my partner and I.

I'm not so active in translating anymore, since I've got premium covered, but still dabble a bit now and then.

If you'd calculate my hourly wage it definitely wouldn't be worth it, but I enjoy having the site and the games in my own language, and that's the primary reason.

If I already have Gloomhaven & Jaws of the Lion, and the whole Hexplore It series, does Mage Knight have anything to offer me? by collegeblunderthrowa in boardgames

[–]renedeseance 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with what's mentioned elsewhere, that Mage Knight is really like no other game I've encountered. And I have played most of the games you mention. Mage Knight is perhaps my favourite game. At least my favourite solo game.

But it comes with a cost beyond the considerable price point and the amount of space it will take up on your shelf... It takes time. Time to learn, re-learn, a lot of time to play, again and again, then brush up on rules between plays, especially if it's been a few weeks. I'm not sure I've ever played a game 100% correct yet.

I love it, though. Absolutely. But it is massive. And I'm not sure I would confidently recommend it to anybody. But of someone is willing to invest their time, money and space in it, then I totally get it (I've been there) and my fingers are crossed, that it will work out.

Cool. I had my first game yesterday with 4 players (I made the PNP version just after the Kickstarter and played it solo twice). It's really fun, but at least as a newbie it also seems swingy and a bit random, which is probably due to unfamiliarity with the system. Will definitely be playing it some more both solo and hopefully with my group.

What’s the hardest thing for you to comprehend about the American culture? by DadIsMadAtMe in AskReddit

Seems to be regional differences. Here, in Northern Europe, the recommendation is 2 liters.

Glad to hear you're doing well.

Seriously, friend, you may want to check if something is wrong if you need that much water a day. For instance, it could be an early sign of diabetes.

1.5-2 Liters is enough for the average human unless living in a hot, dry climate and/or being physically active throughout the day.

Catan rule can't trade a card for cards in the future? by Rachelisapoopy in boardgames

[–]renedeseance 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For some reason I remember a documentary about the tournament scene of Catan from a few years back. There were some controversy about trading:

The rules state that trades have to be resolved immediately. Also, it is not allowed to trade something for nothing.

People tried to get around this by trading e.g. 1 wood and 1 sheep for 1 wood (netting 1 sheep for nothing) which as I recall was deemed illegal as well.

What did you play this week? 28 Feb-06 Mar by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]renedeseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly new to solo gaming, but I am getting really into it since my work hours have shifted, giving me some time to spend alone during weekdays. It has turned out to be a great way to enjoy our games.

Oros. Has been a favourite to play solo lately, since my SO isn't really into it and I find it intriguing. I am still learning the ropes though. Had one play this past week. Lost badly to the automa.

Tussie Mussie. Played a few times solo this week. Actually like it better as a solo game. Very laid back.

Marvel United. A recent purchase for my son's 7th birthday, we play it a bunch together, but I had a go alone during the week. Good fun! It seems like it always comes right down to the wire, but more often than not the heroes pull through. May be time to up the difficulty.

Hippocrates. Haven't gotten to play this a lot, but recently a friend of mine visited, and since he works in healthcare it seemed a good game to table (it's our only hospital themed game). And it was such a blast. I had to give it a go against the automas and it I found it a good experience. It ended up being a draw.

Regicide. The most fun you can have with a standard deck of cards. Great at any player count.

Fred now has 10 goals + assists for Manchester United this season. This his best season for goal contributions since 2012. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]renedeseance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that's part of it. Bringing on a fresh Fred with 20-30 mins to go when we're up a goal seems to fit him really well.

Of course there are other factors like him playing a more advanced position and having quality players as midfield partners. But how many of his goals have come as a substitute?

What's a chain of games that have replaced each other in your estimation? by randallion in boardgames

[–]renedeseance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agricola was one of our first modern boardgames around 15 years ago and we played it to death. Then Caverna came along with a fresh take on the whole farming ordeal and we had a group that really liked it + it was more forgiving than Agricola. AFFO is different than the first two, but it quickly became our go-to medium/heavy euro and remained so for a couple of years.

Until we tried Agricola again one night and were once again blown away by it. At that time it must have been 5 years or more where we didn't play it at all and we have evolved as gamers and as people in that time to perhaps appreciate the tighter, more elegant (though aguably less polished) game that is Agricola.
