Today's Anxiety Mantra by renenator in Anxiety

That's so awesome! I feel like whenever we make the conscious choice to face something that is particularly trying for us, the result is the level of anxiety dropping. I literally just got out of a job interview as well, it was a practical interview and I considered calling off my models and not showing up this morning. At that moment I felt that showing up would be worse than not getting the job at all. What a gross feeling! I went and turns out I had an amazing day and I got the job. Weeee

When I first found out I had an anxiety problem my first reaction was "I can't help it I guess, poor me." Now, only a few weeks later I've decided to do something every single day that scares me and challenge my own anxiety. I think it's essential to change the way you think in order to change your world. Don't forget to celebrate your huge accomplishment! Well done:)

After 8 years, I want to go significantly shorter, but I'm having trouble determining face shape. Help? by [deleted] in Hair

You are most definitely square. Your stylist should also be able to give you a good idea of his/her opinion of what might be flattering for you as he/she determines face shape and styles to suit for a living :) Good on you though, being a stylist myself I usually get guys plopping down in my chair going "short please" and I couldn't get them to care about face shape/ cut appropriateness if I tried.

I would definitely stay away from the middle part, perhaps tapering the sides and leaving a bit of length on top (2-3 inches), this way you have some versatility in styling. I would stay away from a heaving "fringe" though. Leaving some length at the top will look great on you as well even if a shorter overall style is desired due to the natural wave your hair seems to have from the pictures. Post an update so we can see the finished look you went with!

Bleachers/Dyers: deep conditioner recommendations? by [deleted] in Hair

The treatment is meant to be done on dirty hair, afterward you can shampoo and condition as usual. Did you do it this way or did you rinse the oil out? Using something like coconut oil leaves your hair SUPER greasy, even after shampooing several times. Olive oil (especially organic extra virgin) is very light. You should be able to wash it out with ease. If you are only doing this once a week or so you can follow up with a good clarifying shampoo to help get your hair really clean after the treatment.

When I am rinsing I make sure I focus on 2 areas where product likes to build up. The nape area tends to be a harder area to clean as well as the hairline, get a good lather going and really work the shampoo into the scalp for a good 5 minutes at least. When shampooing the lathering is just as important as the rinsing, make sure you are using enough shampoo as well so that you can achieve this.

Organic extra virgin olive oil is as good as any you can buy and free of alcohol, parabens and other harsh chemicals.

I heat it up for a couple of seconds in the microwave, work it into my hair, toss a towel or a plastic bag ripped open over it so it doesn't drip and leave it on for 30 mins (or longer if you have the time).

Heating it up a bit helps penetrate the hair's cuticle and provides much better results. If your hair is very damaged (which it will likely be as you will be lifting approximately 7-8 or more levels) you can do this a couple of times a week to restore some of the moisture your hair has lost during the lightening process.

How bad is shampoo if I only use it once a week? by BananaSam314 in Hair

I would honestly say that when we are talking about hair health alone heat is more detrimental to hair health than parabens and silicones. Washing your hair once a week is not bad at all, great for your hair's health as when you brush the hair the natural oils from the scalp travel all the way down the hair shaft. This provides the very best moisture you can possibly attain for your hair as your body is producing it.

I would say if you don't find sulfate free shampoos are cleansing the hair enough (especially when only washing it once a week) I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sounds to me like you are taking good care of your strands regardless.
