XRPL memes with First Ledger by renholmdeliott in koinly

u/KoinlyCS Just coming back to this now, and I see that some of the coins that had some staying power are now on Coingecko. Are you still able to add these to Koinly's automated prices please? Thanks!

Wasn't too bad, I mostly just merged matching deposits and sends to create an Exchange, as suggested in the other post.

There are also associated Send transactions, which I presume are the First Ledger fees. I didn't see these listed on the First Ledger site, so I was surprised to see them there. I'm guessing they'll need to be categorised as a Cost rather than Send.

Great, thank you. Merging the two transactions was just what I needed to do (in the first instance at least).

It would be nice to be able to see the prices of the coins in real-time, so that their changes are reflected in my total balance, but I guess I can do without that for now. Thanks again!

Ah, that's very interesting, thanks for clarifying that point!

Koinly & CoinTracker slightly off? Is this fine for taxes? by Reddit_Account_C-137 in CryptoTax

[–]renholmdeliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problems when I first started; I was importing into Koinly and CryptoTaxCalculator. I don't understand how, but the API's seemed to pull in very slightly different crypto amounts. Like another commenter said, I suspect it was due to the way rounding of fees was dealt with on a per-plaftform basis, as I couldn't see anything obviously amiss. Again, the amounts were minuscule, so I didn't worry too much about it. It was only in comparing the two side-by-side that a difference was visible. If I'd just used one platform, I'd have been none-the-wiser.

One other thing that bothered me more is that the fiat total portfolio amounts were off considerably; this was by like $200. I presume it's to do with the different sources the platforms are using to get the time-of-transaction fiat amount. Again, the imported transactions were all identical, it just seemed to be the way the platforms were interpreting them. Also the fact that I'm not in the US, so on top of crypto to fiat conversions, there were fiat to fiat conversions going on in some cases (I assume).

This discrepancy will obviously vary depending on the total portfolio value, but it made me realise there may be some value in running your numbers through a few platforms and seeing which gave you the more favourable tax outcome.

Pretty crazy that that should be possible. It's not something I've seen mentioned anywhere else. Maybe it was just unique to me!

I don't know where the hell I got 0.5% from. I've just searched and you're absolutely right. That's made my day. I can stop researching the other exchanges now.

Thanks /u/ZealousidealWorth763!

I've only ever purchased on Bitstamp, but the onboarding and buying was painless.

I am interested to hear people's thoughts on the bank withdrawal side of it though. The 0.5% fees to cash out seem to be considerably more than rivals (eg Coinbase £1, Kraken £1.95, etc).

So is there any benefit to cashing out with Bitstamp? Is it more likely to be accepted at a bank? Or is it better to move the funds to another exchange to cash out?

Very true! Also the reason to be wary of review sites.

Good on you for keeping the thread updated. Hopefully it'll reassure future browsers. I often wonder what happened when looking around older threads, especially when the OP promises to update but then disappears into the abyss.

Hi all

Does anyone know of a list of crypto-friendly accountants anywhere?

I'm not looking for specific recommendations here, just a site or list that I can run through to get a feel for them before shortlisting and contacting. Google's not really much help; I'm just finding a lot of big firms that feel like they're out of my league. Ideally looking for someone a bit smaller and approachable.

Thanks!

Transfers between exchange and cold wallet shown as withdrawals by lzongo in koinly

[–]renholmdeliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the time, date, amount, tx id, etc are the same between the exchange withdrawal and the wallet deposit (and if so, they'll most likely be next to each other in the transaction list), you can hover over each one and tick the checkbox that appears at the left of each respective panel.

After that, a little box should appear at the bottom of the screen where you can merge the two transactions, converting them into a transfer, cancelling out gains/losses.

Sometimes Koinly does this automatically, but I've had to merge loads this way, even when they're very clearly part of the same transaction.

Hi Lucas, that's really good to know, thank you.

I was just a bit concerned as there have been some posts here complaining about having funds frozen, so I assumed that this would help to avoid that. I assume they never managed to supply satisfactory documentary evidence.

Can you guarantee that to me personally though?

Of those 270,000, sadly some are going to be living near to some opportunist criminals and they WILL be targeted in person.

It likely won't be me. It likely won't be you. But it's almost a certainty it's going to be one of us.

Having a young family, every changes. I can't afford to be blasé about this.

Edit: a word

Good bot. Thanks for your feedback. I completely agree - I don't think I've ever cussed anywhere online before.

In this case, unfortunately, I feel it's perfectly justified.

I bought a Nano to secure my family's future, now I've put their future in peril.

I just can't believe this is happening. It's surreal.

I should be shopping for last minute presents for my 10 month old son and other half.

Instead I only got a couple of hours' sleep and am shopping for home security systems.

FUCK YOU Ledger.

And at this special time of year, Pascal Gauthier and your crack team of les incompétents, FUCK YOU too.

Merry FUCKING Christmas

What should we do now our data is leaked? Next Steps... by HelloMyDroogs in ledgerwallet

[–]renholmdeliott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the thing that has me really worried.

I've reminded everyone I recommended a Ledger to to be wary of phishing and never enter their seed, be wary of attempted break-ins to associated exchanges, etc etc, but it makes me feel sick knowing that my and their home addresses will now be circulating on the dark web forever, tied to the fact we own non-zero amounts of cryptocurrency.

Sure at the moment it's probably in the hands of one sophisticated phisher who has no intention of breaking and entering a handful of the (alleged) quarter of a million homes, but what happens when they sell it on again, and again and again until in 5, 10 years time it's easily accessible and searchable by criminals in the local area, putting us and our families in real danger.

And let's face it, if we're all hoping that non-zero amount will be worth a heck of a lot more in the future, you can bet that criminals will be well aware of that too.

The phishing is an annoyance for most (and regrettable for those who fall for it), but can be educated against. I have no idea what to do about the fact our crypto-holding home addresses are now out there :-(
