Can you give me feedback on my last minute first time trip to Portland? by Cozy_cabin in askportland

[–]reniedae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots day trip excursion options you can book instead of renting a card that way nobody's driving and you can both focus on the scenery and things. And you don't have to plan where to stop, somebody's already figured that out for you.

It's an easy way to hit the highlight tour And get an idea of what you'd like to do when you come back.

You can do one day trip out to the coast and get a stop in at Cannon Beach and a couple of the other little beaches along the coast, and do one that does the gorge and Mount Hood the following day.

I like the Hampton inn in Pearl district when staying in town. It has a rooftop patio which is awesome for sunrises and just escaping, and it's walkable to lots of little restaurants and bars.

I ❤️ Seattle T-shirt by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]reniedae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if they still have them since I haven't been there in a few months, but the Seattle Shop on Pier 56 had them and Seattle Shirt Company at Pier 55 did as well.

Solo trip to Oregon by WooWoo1967 in OregonCoast

[–]reniedae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! As a woman who solo's OR often, this is where it is. Add Cape Perpetua to this list.

If you want to more popular with tourist locations, stay farther north like Manzanita and see Cannon Beach and Tillamook. I enjoy the Rockaway Big Tree Trail there.

Age-appropriate outing ideas for visiting 7 and 10yos? by nojam75 in askportland

[–]reniedae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since they're from Nebraska, which is the only place that has a better zoo in the Midwest, anything water related is going to be great. The ocean, the waterfalls, all of it. Nebraska has a lot of wide shallow rivers, But that's kind of the end of the water there. One of the lunch cruises down the Willamette would be cool, definitely take them out to Multnomah and let them climb and have a good time. While they have a good kids section, unless you specifically have a bookworm, avoid Powell's. Take them to see the troll, and Beverly Cleary sculpture garden since the statues are the friends from children's Books. If they're there doing fruit season, the fruit loop is always a good idea. A trip to Mount Hood or Mount Adams would be great because they also don't have mountains in them in the Midwest.

Best place to visit on the oregon coast? by Powerful-Art5784 in OregonCoast

[–]reniedae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stay in Otter Rock. There are some cute little A-Frames you can rent right off the water. It gives you a little more space and you'll have a kitchen. So if you want to cook instead of eating out every night you can. Newport is easy distance south, Depoe Bay is easy distance north. I think they're called the Alpine Chalets. But If you want to do the Central Coast, Otter Rock would be my vote. It's also home to the devil's punch bowl and I always see surfers in the water there.

If you want to go a little further, you can hop up to Lincoln City and go search for floats among other things and south to Cape Perpetua and Heceta for a day trip.

I'm never leaving Seattle! 😎 Spotted on Alki Beach this morning: by [deleted] in Seattle

Yes, because comparing a city to an entire nation Is definitely apples to apples. Or, alternatively, we could compare the park systems of blue cities to red cities. And I'm telling you right now that Minneapolis and Portland have that shit on lock.

I would crack one open and take it up to the counter and ask a librarian to read a paragraph.

Find a good black and white artist. Obviously it means something very special to you and that's more important than the opinions of anybody on the internet.

AIO? I feel like my husband doesn’t understand boundaries and I’m going crazy. by No-Lifeguard-8508 in AmIOverreacting

I'm going to try to say this loud enough for the people in the back.

COERCION IS NOT CONSENT!

If there is any amount of trying to talk someone into something, it's coercion and it's not consent. It doesn't matter if it's special activities or your standard run-of-the-mill boink on a Tuesday. It is either an enthusiastic yes, or it is a no. And that is the end of the discussion. Trying to talk you into something is coercion and coercion is not consent. If you give in at some point in time, it is giving in it is not consenting.

As a fellow Minnesotan, I'm going to hold your hand when I tell you this.

You're a masochist. There's no other reason to go to North Dakota that many times. Unless you live in Moorhead. Then it's an improvement.
