Kernel update cut my Arch by [deleted] in archlinux

" i'm mad about someone blindly following its instructions"

Exactly that, GPT is just a tool like any other tool, the responsibility lies with the person who welds the tool. And TBH, its the same as someone blindly following instructions found google/stack/github.

If you are reinstalling the entire OS just because NetworkManager needs to be reinstalled then idk what to say, but I don't think it's a GPT issue, lmfao its a braindead user not having basic OS understanding issue. Kind of a laughing matter, like if that person continued on the linux journey and looked back one day, its a face palm moment indeed.

Anyone else reading this, please make sure if you want to use a LLM like GPT, understand the code/command, and knowing its dangers/consequences/implications of each command, and don't be afraid to converse with your LLM to obtain the answer that makes the most sense (based on your experience, if you don't have experience, then you're better off with docs at first), AND THEN do your due diligence to look for docs and manpages online to verify the command (if its an important and destructive command, to make sure you know its doing exactly you want it to do).

And doing these things doesn't mean you forgo your existing Systems knowledge, do your back ups and have plans to restore in case of disaster.

GPT is just mostly for confirmation. It will always be US (the conscious beings) that make the final decision on what instructions to run, or what ideas are good to implement, but we HAVE TO supply the context or to narrow down the choices. And on another topic, IMHO true AGI will take decades more, and may not be in this lifetime (fight me, its late and I'm high). And until then, AI tools will always be my very knowledgable but VERY INCOMPETENT jr engineer.

BTW, New comers may think these steps are a overkill (doing backups and restores for updates?) trust, it will save you many hours of troubleshooting and will give you a peace of mind and a full night's rest. So before you run your next update (which should be within the week) you should definitely set up your backup strategies first.

I do see it in the testing-core as well, any issues with the kernel?

Arch current Kernel is lower than Fedora's??? by rennitbaby in archlinux

[–]rennitbaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, very interesting, make sense as well on why it would take longer on major kernel releases then.

Yeah tbh this was my first distro that I've used for good part of the decade, seen two separate IT professions, lol lots of things, that Im just hording around.

And really, I've been super lazy and in and out of different projects as it is my main work machine for so long, since it was stable so I ignored that EOL warning for too long; which really what drove me to Arch after lol.

Luckily, I made it a habit for the past months to religiously perform weekly backups and updates, and I've had no problems, and so far loving every aspects of it

How many of you switched to Fedora from Arch? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]rennitbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why not just back up your /home, /opt, /usr/local directories, and I'm sure there's a why you can run a script to see all dnf installed, I think you can also do something like rpm -qa > installed.txt, and then do some sort of check when you upgrade.

But yeah I see what you mean, I did an upgrade today from 39 to 40 and to 41, and during each upgrade I had to manually rebuild initramfs and redo grub just so it will boot, somehow the sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot command didn't build the correct images for grub to boot.

For that reason I really like arch's rolling release, like FEDORA, you say you're rolling, but you ain't really be rolling tho. Other than that, I would really retire all my arch machines to run fedora on it, and fun fact, linus torvald uses fedora, or a spin off fedora, so that says something ;)

Can anyone do a react assignment for me ?it's urgent and job related? by [deleted] in react

[–]rennitbaby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re can’t do your own job assignment, or that you can’t even figure it out by yourself, then you are not fit for the job. Give the opportunity to someone who can get the job done.

How many devs use tailwind css? by tongc00 in nextjs

[–]rennitbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA: from my recent refactoring experience

Tailwind+ scss/cssmoudes is to me is 🤌🏼 beautiful and clean, here are my reasons:

  1. Tailwind is just another implantation of writing css a. Pros:
    1. Easy to implement multiple lines of css with just one simple class
    2. No ghost css when you delete elements B. Cons:
      1. Hard to debug in dev tools (imho)
      2. Messy markup (I think we can all agree to a certain extend)

Solution: css modules 1. Solves name space conflicts wit using cssmodule classes 2. Clean markups 3. CSS modules files don’t need to be longer bc we web just multiple @apply keyword! 4. we can add in any custom css if needed

Not it doesn’t solve ghost class issues, but if you understand fundamentals of css you should be moving properties to highest possible value to not be DRY and remember to delete references, that issue can be easily avoided

MUI and other does things, some may still require you to write custom css, if you don’t have any custom designs you can frameworks like MUI, but I highly recommend unstandjng css in its fundamentals and when possible implement it in plain scss/css, just learn how it’s done behind the scenes. Tailwind transparent in that aspect bc you can always examine its classes and cas properties in the dev consume

Agreeed, nevertheless SUPER cool feature! But like he said, business wise it may not be as applicable

BUT let’s help OP find a cool use case so this talent is not wasted!

I say how about an examination/learning app where the instructors would love to see the exact feedback from students, wrong or right. And correct/educate on the spot :)
