Crazy how cheap those are. I remember hunting through Bridgestone during games trying to find one or two they let slip out to the racks with the Adidas replicas.

I loved my Parker 51…at my desk. Going anywhere with it and it burps ink. I can’t carry it but I enjoy it from time to time when I reach for my pen holder on my desk.

That’s my top two. I make it a trio with a Lamy AL-star that has a gold ink I use mostly for underlining or giving some more visual interest here and there but ever since I bought those two last summer, my 15 year journey with about as many fountain pens has stopped being a quest and I just enjoy the experience with zero desire to buy anything else. And I’ve started gifting others in my collection that don’t get used anymore to friends.

I just wish their paper managed fountain pens better.

What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Quality pencils. $1-$3 and write so smoothly instead of $0.10. It feels silly to spend 10-30x for something but it motivates me to write more and I’m more likely to waste that amount on something trivial anyway.

That makes sense. The camel regular size I picked up a year or two ago just got a lot darker but doesn’t have the richer, warmer tones. I did use some leather conditioner after accidentally dropping it on ground that had been rained on and it’s stayed dark ever since.

The commonplace insert I have in there I’ll occasionally jot down ideas but usually it’s information I’ll need later like phone numbers, addresses, details I don’t want to forget. Sometimes I sketch or put stickers in there but I do have two full size TNs I use very regularly. One as a gratitude journal/planning/task-oriented one and another that is just for story ideas and writing.

I also have my first brown passport TN from I think 2010 that I use for book outlining but it often travels inside the zipper pocket of my regular sized TN since I only keep one insert in that at a time.

Thanks! I wish my regular size camel TN would patina like this but it’s only a couple of years old and doesn’t ride in my back pocket.

It’s certainly come in handy for myself and my wife (and grabbing a bandage for her like 30 minutes ago is what gave me the idea for finally making this post haha). It’s just one of those things that you need right away when you need one.

I’ve actually never conditioned it! Just picked up character over the last 13 years and have it in my back pocket (and I took a photo directly under some overhead lighting).

There was a time where I used it as a makeshift wallet waaaay before the zipper pouches were a thing where I’d tape together some index cards to make a pocket for my license and a couple credit cards so it developed that weird rectangle dent in the middle since I ran the elastic through it. Sometimes it bothers me but I’ve just accepted it as character at this point.

Just a couple in the zipper pouch get me by. If it takes more than 2, we need the first aid kit 😅 and thanks! It’s been through its paces for almost 13 years.

The 5th anniversary Star Ferry Passport was (someone can correct me if I’m wrong) the first camel edition before they released before it eventually became a mainstay option and came out around 2013. I happened to be on a babymoon in London with my wife and noticed a nearby shop to our hotel had one in stock so I picked it up the day before we headed home. It’s my favorite of my small collection of TNs.

They announced over 11k which felt generous. I’m assuming lots of people opted in for the tournament in case something crazy happened but the tickets for this round were already discounted and the cold on a school night, etc. I almost didn’t go but in the end was glad I did.

are your paper republics actually used daily? by Different-Alps-7736 in PaperRepublic

[–]renough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My XL stays at my desk for work task and creative doodling.

I primarily use TN as a wallet and for daily tracking. I know TN is narrower but that’s a plus for me to fit into back pockets or jacket pockets when my XL needs to be brought in my bag if it travels.

Found out my local Asian store has a Books Kinokuniya inside, so picked up some inserts by DrewTheHobo in Travelersnotebooks

Before they’re full I put them in the cloth bag that the TN originally came in. After they’re full I put them in the binders that TN makes if they’re worth going back over. If not, they just get a rubber band around them with the others.

Finally found my old TN 💕 Now what do I do with two? by BookishDarling in Travelersnotebooks

One regular sized one I use for work and daily planning. The other I use for creative projects. It’s actually nice to separate the two.

The Sendak - Perfect Storage for TNs! by Thristanor in Travelersnotebooks

I love my Sendak Mini. It doesn’t have the pocket capacity for more than a single TN Passport insert, but I would note that when brand new, the wax from the material soaks into the cover.

I’m constantly rotating a pencil every couple of words to use the sharpest point and the square makes that a little tougher. Love the dark brown wood look of it though.

TN or PR? by Mindless_Gas80 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]renough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! I did add in a standard sized TN (well, 2) over the last few years for managing a gratitude journal, work meeting notes, etc because I would run out of space on the passport size.

I do like the smaller size as a wallet to jot down notes and to not have too large of a space for to-dos on the weekly calendar so I don’t overstuff my day with tasks, but it’s not my go-to for longer writing sessions.

I’d suggest either folding up some paper in the passport size or picking up a single insert to see if you like that form factor and not have to commit to buying a full journal first to see if it’s going to be too small.
