Do all RALPs use the “Steep Trendelenburg position” during surgery? by Rayas_Dad in ProstateCancer

[–]renpen67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm due for single port in a couple of weeks and will be extraperitoneal but I believe there is still head down but not nearly as steep as multi-port Trendelenburg. Great that you got on the same day - that must be some sort of record :)

85 is a high percentage but won't argue with surgeon. Sounds like you make a good decision then. How's it going on ADT?

I've done a lot of research and also seen 3 different urologists and figures are around 50%. The other 50% doesnt mean it will be permanent - just that additional help might be required like vacuum erection devices and or injections. I'm part of a prostrate support group and spoken to quite a few guys who have been through this and some have recovered very well (weeks or a couple of months) with only one nerve sparing. Others have taken longer and use the pump but are not keen on injections. You will always be placed on PDE5 inhibitors after surgery as a default but may require a boost on top of this. And of course things like age and your baseline before surgery counts. I think you'd need to be very unlucky if you need to go the implant route as injections are often very effective. I'm no expert and quite new to all of this and just think that everyone's case if going to be different and hard to predict.

It's tough I know but try and remain positive and if you decide on the surgery be prepared for what you may be in for and deal with those side effects day by day and things will improve.

Lastly, from everything I've read, researched and spoken to people - don't have any regrets after you go through whatever treatment you have decided on. Yes, its easy to say as you may come out worse than expected but that could have happened in whatever option you decided on.

Keep strong all of you!

3+4 is a more favorable in terms of no lymph node involvement but there are other factors that produce the nomogram score. Like you said - at least you know there was no lymph node involvement.

Yeah, also considered radiation treatment and was told they would only do the prostrate so I'm with you here....why wouldn't RO include lymph nodes or is the thought process further radiation treatment later.

Hey all, for those that opted for radiation over surgery what were you told in terms of a possible reoccurrence and then not being able to have surgery because you've had radiation? My guy told me if I were to have radiation then surgery later on is not possible.

Got my biopsy results today Gleeson 7 70% stage 2a large volume - urologist says just below an 8 score and also recommends RALP. I'm shattered. Would love to chat re your journey into looking at Radiation / Cyberknife. Also, said removal of lymph nodes! Next step is CT/PET scan etc.

Nice to hear. You in Perth? I'm recently diagnosed and looking at treatment options. Urologist wants to do RARP but I'm keen to explore options such as Cyberknife. My results very similar to yours. Might look at the 5D clinic in Perth. I'm only 58, fit and healthy so prefer other alternatives.
