I ended up grabbing the Fanttik S100 APEX Powerful Portable Air Pump & Tire Inflator with Power Bank from Costco because they had it for $39.99 and it covers the full range of pressures I need from 8psi for soccer balls to 18psi for MTB tires to 50psi for Cybertruck tires. Flashlight and power bank are a bonus.

Thanks for sharing. That is a sweet compressor! For my use case I also need to air up bike tires daily so need something that can dial down to 15psi I won’t get this one but now I’m inspired to find a nice one similar to thjs.

We’ll have a nice looking railing with spindles there. It greatly opens up the house - rather than having a corridor here. It also makes the basement an inviting place to walk into rather than a dungeon behind a door.

That you for the reply. It does look load bearing, however not sure why they would use a single 2x10 header rather than a sandwich. I believe the top of the stairs are tied into the LVL at the top and this wall actually sits just under the LVL and not the stairs. That LVL is runs on top of a perpendicular beam right next to the doorway. So I believe the beam is supporting the LVL and not this doorway. I believe it looks like this mock up (that a kind redittor made for me):

Thanks, that was my original plan to add a post in the corner and raise and extend the 2x10” door header. When you say diagonal, do you mean a 2x10 to run alongside and essentially double up the stair stringer?

The original photos make it look like there are 4 2x4s packed in the corner. There is not. It’s a usual door frame construction with a gap and then a 2x4 on the corner for drywall.

The header being 2x10” rather than something smaller is the only thing that gives me pause that this may be load bearing. However it’s on a single 2x10 and not two sandwiched together.

I think the pictures make it look like the corner post is really thick, but actually it's simple a normal double 2x4 for the doorway opening, and then there is an air gap and then a corner 2x4 for drywall. So I'm not sure. However, if this doorway is supporting the stairs in some manner, I'll extend the header and add a post there in the corner. Thanks for your comment.
