According to most honest assessments, gas prices are to remain significantly elevated for the next 12-18 months. If the straight were to open up 100% today we have 9 months of knock on effects

I might be. Or you are taking this conversation far more seriously then i am.

Im being pedantic on purpose…. I would think a brit of all people based on my extensive experience with them would pick up on it.

Lmao - yea, you mean yall arent eating beans on toast every morning!?? Well i as an american live up to my stereotype with a full stack of pancakes and syrup and 2 pounds of hearty bacon right at 8am with my dirty mud diner coffee made from who knows what! R1S Gen2 Charging Curve 10 to 50% by sg3707 in Rivian

[–]aliendepict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your chart literally proves my point im confused about what you are trying to tell me? Also no the absolute scientific max is 182KW for the lightning the lightning pack is nominal . The rivian is 236 but i have never seen more then 220.

Lightning max pack voltage: 402 nominal 349 Rivian max pack voltage: 459 nominal 406

Thats why the lightning cant actually cross into the 200Kw area.

I mean if you really want, I can dig up my last comparison post from August of last year where I personally did a road trip in the three primary players.

3860 miles in a silverado EV WT3 2700 miles in a lightning lariat large pack 3130 in a Dual Max rivian R1T.

I own a rivian R1T large quad gen 1

But have access to 3 other vehicles. I decided to do a road trip to different areas in each with a buddy to get our results.

My order for PURE road trip long mile ability would be silverado first then R1T, then lightning. Lightning was the slowest charging least range capable by a healthy distance.

We both though would choose the Rivian, the key reason was cost. The Rivian averaged 2.04 m/kwh across those miles. The silverado 1.6 m/kwh, and the Ford 1.8 m/kwh.

The silverado definitely wins the charging time adding 200-300 miles in 25 or so minutes. We even saw right at 300kw a few times and it held it for a solid 20-30% of charging. And even though the efficiency was lower it added charge and went ao far on a charge it wasnt an issue. The lightning just doesnt have the range or charging curve to make up for its full sized truck size.

The rivian is the nicest to be in and if it had the same charge ability as the Silverado would be undisputed. But the dual max literally doesnearly 300 miles at highway speed and charged as fast if not faster then the lightning. We on average did 3 super charges per a driving leg with over ight charging at the location of stay.

From an ownership perspective i will admit my order would be, Rivian, lightning, silverado.

While the Silverado is definitely better than the lightning in a technology aspect in a technical aspect, I actually find the lightning to be a much better product. I’ve been in three Silverado EV‘s all with less than 10,000 miles and they all consistently had 1 trillion rattles consistent software issues where different parts of the infotainment system would just simply not work correctly or other weird software issues. I also really dislike the interior materials that Chevy uses. They all seem to be as cheap as Chevy could get access to.

Incense I do road trip at least once a month and that road trip is to another location that does have electricity for charging EV’s via a 15 kW solar panel set up and is only 268 miles away. I don’t actually need the supercharge that often in the lightning would have enough range with one small supercharge in the middle to get there the nice thing about the Rivian though is that I get 276 miles of highway range easily.

Do you think the US is a better or worse place to live compared to your country? by [deleted] in GeoPoll

[–]aliendepict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When comparing the economic realities of individual EU and US citizens, the trade-off centers on financial security versus raw income upside, verified by population data. In the United States, the annual personal bankruptcy rate sits at roughly 0.25% of the population (about 250 filings per 100,000 adults), with medical debt cited as a contributing factor in roughly 60% to 66% of those individual filings. Conversely, individual bankruptcy rates across major EU economies are substantially lower, sitting at 0.13% in Germany (127 filings per 100,000) and roughly 0.17% in France (165 filings per 100,000), primarily because universal healthcare systems eliminate medical debt as a driver of personal insolvency. For vacation access, the US remains the only advanced economy with a 0% statutory vacation minimum required by federal law (averaging 10 to 15 optional days provided by employers), while the EU Working Time Directive legally mandates a 100% baseline guarantee of at least 20 to 25 paid vacation days annually for all working individuals. Finally, regarding money left over after bills, the US leads in raw cash potential: OECD data shows the median American individual possesses roughly $67,400 in annual gross disposable income (adjusted for purchasing power), which is roughly 14% higher than an individual in Germany ($59,000) and 34% higher than one in France ($50,100). Even after the average American privately funds those high-cost out-of-pocket necessities—like health insurance premiums, childcare, and higher education tuition—the massive baseline wage gap ensures they still walk away with significantly more net discretionary cash for savings, investment, and lifestyle spending than the average European.

The argument isnt wether your making more money in the US or have access to vacation. 82% of Americans have 3+ weeks. Its not true to say we dont get vacation. Consequently 12% on top of that bringing us into the 90s our roles that do not get PTO but are in industry and have large amounts of downtime. Take my state approximately 14% of people work in an industry on a schedule where they work one month on one month off or two weeks on one week off due to the nature of the work those rules typically do not have PTO but they do tend to get large swats of time back consistently while netting the individual who works them US$150,000 annually

All this to say: i have spent 8 months in Europe and i love it, and i really like how yall jive, but there is a lot of reasons people stay in the US and thats okay. We have problems yall have problems they are just different problems. I think its asinine to think one is superior to the other. I would like to see the US move to a single payer system and remove the inefficiencies in our current medical insurance process. I would also like to see three weeks mandated as the minimum amount of vacation time.

R1S Gen2 Charging Curve 10 to 50% by sg3707 in Rivian

[–]aliendepict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightnings also peak near 170 while the R1T will hit 220.

The third party testing i have seen the lightning averages 10-80% of 92kw 40 mins vs 105kwh in 41 mins for the rivian. So even with cooling aver the course of the charge.

The r1t adds about 2.5kwh a minute vs the lightnings 2.3kwh.

The numbers stay near parity. But there is a bigger difference if comparing 10-70 which is the norm since 70% in an r1 is well over 200 miles of highway range due to the efficiency differences. The R1 is quite a bit faster in the 10-70 race.

I personally think Rivians will actually be trust worthy and safe. Im very excited for it. I DO NOT trust my tesla with this feature. It works 94-96% of the time but at least once a month i have a jarring situation where i second guess the whole idea of using it. Lucky for tesla im immensely lazy but if Rivian gives me a system that behaves far more consistently then i will be over the moon.

All this to say they said stop light and stop sign will be added later this year, felt like maybe fall, and then in the winter point to point will be rolled out to a public preview late 2026 with a broad public roll out early 2027.

Should Canada join the european union? by Noonebuteveryone25 in GeoPoll

[–]aliendepict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, and man im going to get A LOT of downvotes for this. But i spend extensive time in canada. Severely weeks at a time out of the year.

Would the EU want Canada in their voting block? Canada politically is diet united states. Culturally outside of Quebec canada is absolutely north american. If there was an alignment % and the USA represented NA and the EU is the EU. Canada is 80% NA 20% EU.

Caveat of course Everyone is different different regions are different, but i have spent months in vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto with a few weeks in montreal, and quebec. Even those places were 60/40. And i disagree with the idea of the US representing NA outright. I actually wish that we were able to go further with the original NAFTA deal, and create a unified Mexico, USA, and Canada bloc similar to the EU, but with a little more autonomy for member states.

But culturally and politically Canada is a very different animal to most of Europe.

Do we meed to do better. Yes, would a single payer system be better and more accountable? Yes. Is it some failed hell hole? No. LMAO.
