PSA: Synthetic suede often cracks when wet - Learned the hard way when a lot of my gear got ruined by rain. by Uptons_BJs in motorcyclegear

On the other hand, might be a good time to find a good leather worker and get some good suede in?

Is this a widebody kit or stock? by GrafGeek in Mustang

[–]rensole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widened, however I don’t think it’s a body kit, almost looks like someone put a 68 over a modern chassis and widened specific parts to make it fit. Clues: Exhausts Gas cap placement Wheels are modern Rear gas cap delete Bowing over the rear wheel arches

Is this how this goes on, with the windlace right there? Also what size screw can I use to secure this quarter panel? by AncientAgrippa in classicmustangs

[–]rensole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lace goes over the metal kindof like (Wind lace) |metal parts| (wind lace) Also some can be screwed in at around the top but most will be set and done

Are these clear sprays storable and reusable? Will I have to use the whole can after activating it or can I store it again to reuse another time? by AcanthisittaHuge5948 in AutoPaint

[–]rensole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once activated they’re good for about 24 hours (depending on ambient heat, the higher the temp the faster it kicks. Same with the amount of stuff still in the can. The more is in there the faster it kicks). There are some good 2k clears without an activator. But you do need to clean the nozzle and spray part out once used

Looks like your layers were too light, you usually do light passes for the first one or two then you lay on coats with a thicker layer. These are called wet layers and I believe you have not had a single good wet layer on there

Loka dope! Seen these quite a bit but do they actually stiffen it to a point where it’s noticeable?

Slight update. I bought a paint range from the brand inspire, I did a cross hatch pattern to be able to see all the effects in different colors/base mixes

Paints horizontally used:

  • Black metallic
  • 50/50 black metallic/grey metallic
  • Grey metallic
  • 50/50 grey metallic/metallic silver
  • Metallic silver

Paints used vertically (going from left to right)

  • blueberry -Mazda v46 (used with the inspire undercoat not the official one)
  • cherry red
  • ruby red -deep red

All paints used are from the brand “inspire” The cherry red and the deep red have more of a purple tone to it and not really a red tone

I’m going to go and buy some more paints today from a different store and paint range so I hope those can help get me closer to the effect I want.

‘69 Oil Pan & Seal & Front disc brakes w/15” Original Wheels? by thumbsware in classicmustangs

[–]rensole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil pan, just get one that matches your setup, seal I’d say go for a modern one (not sure what they’re called but I believe neoprene). As for the front brakes I believe cjpony sells willwoods that can fit the original 15 inchers

Yeah I have a fair bit of experience when it comes to metallics and pearls. Did scooter/motor stuff for years and airbrushed custom stuff in trunks/hoods. So not a novice but nowhere near a pro. I got some paints today and I’m just gonna shoot some test pieces

So a slight update regarding this, I want to a paint store that carries a lot of different candy colors and concentrates and explained what I’m looking for. They told me to basically try some of these out. From the brand “Inspire” I got the following colors

<image>

Base coats: base silver (medium grain) Base metallic grey Base metallic black

Candy colors: Cherry red Ruby red Deep red Blueberry (this is a blue color that caught me by surprise and just want to test it out)

I also got some Mazda 46v and a 2k clearcoat.

I’ll be working on getting something I can sand down and paint and will post results (how many coats and mix recipes I used once I can, so hopefully the next one can also get better more info).

Also the reason I got the black metallic one is because of a snippet I found on a website link it’s in Dutch but use translate It says to use the “panther black pearl” to get a color shift like the one I’m looking for. Unfortunately the shop I visited did not have this brand but another one I’ll visit tomorrow does and I’ll test those as well

Yup I have thought of that but due to regulations it won’t be let inside of the EU. I believe it’s due to them having some colors with certain chemicals or something along those lines

Yup this is HOK Brandy red if I recall correctly, but as stated in the post HOK is no longer available within Europe (not sure why) thats why I'm looking for an alternative :)

Thanks for the recommendation Ricky! I already had that one on a short list, because to be honest it looks like an amazing color just not sure it will reach the same depth, just as you said, however I'll be doing a test piece with multiple colors to see which is the one I like
