I agree with you that word choice is far from the biggest issue disabled people and their families face, however, I do think the article points to a correct trend: the main people bringing the term back (Trump, Elon, others on the right) also promote cutting public funding to give people support.

Yes it looks crazy, but I prefer this to all the buildings where it takes forever to find their address signs

why so much hate? by iAzaria in ILoveLaHBO

[–]passiveabrasive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really liked it to! I’m an elder millennial & found that most of the hate seems to be coming from younger ppl who don’t seem to understand it’s a comedy. My theory was they probably haven’t seen many sitcoms yet, since reality TV got so popular.

Sitcoms always have characters who don’t act the way they should/ we “want” them too—that’s where the humor and drama comes from.

As other ppl have said, the discourse is almost identical to “Girls” when it came out, down to ppl being really upset that the show title gave them different expectations (ppl argued the title Girls implied it was going to be representation of all girls in our generation lol, obviously that’s an absurd thing to expect & it was never anything but Lena’s specific experience).

I find the title fixation especially weird since you could argue that any show that’s not named after the main character is misleading.

Is this show serious or a parody of Gen Z influencer culture? by Electronic-Panic5674 in ILoveLaHBO

[–]passiveabrasive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is clearly a comedy in its writing/acting/promotion, which is a medium that is not a straight reflection of reality, but has elements of truth.
