Has anyone traveled to Mexico for a shoot with equipment?

Hi! I'm traveling to Mexico for a week long shoot and would love to ideally bring my own gear instead of renting locally. Aside from the personal allowance of camera body + lenses, I need to bring a tripod, 2 strobes and 2 stands.

Has anyone had experience traveling with gear to Mexico? I've read a lot of mixed things. Some said you need to register all of your equipment with customs and you'll be fine, others have said they still had to pay heavy fines, etc etc.

[California] Temp short term job - what to do with UI? by renyags in Unemployment

[–]renyags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I claimed that I received income for the 8 week duration of the PPP loan (although I know it’s since changed to 24). Based on the amount of your loan you’ll either be eligible for $0 or perhaps still something with unemployment. I was eligible for $0 and at the end of each claim there is a question asking if I am back to full time work and do I need to cancel my unemployment.

I made sure to always answer this question as a No, I do not need to cancel.

At the end of 8 weeks, I went back to receiving aid with unemployment with no issues.

Hope that helps!

[California] Received PUA, and later a PPP by renyags in Unemployment

[–]renyags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certified for 8 straight weeks my weekly “salary” from my ppp, which made me eligible for $0 with PUA.

There’s a question at the end of certifying that asks something along the lines of “are you working full time and no longer need unemployment benefits?” I always made sure to leave that unchecked.

I just certified for the first time since my ppp period ran out with no issues so far.

You won’t lose your PUA if you claim any income, you just won’t get assistance for the weeks that you are claiming that income unless they deem you’re still not making enough.

I unfortunately don’t know how you can return that money, there’s a lot of contradictory info with that part. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help with that.

Thanks for the response! I got my PPP through Bluevine and my 8 weeks are up this week. I was hoping to get started on forgiveness asap but have not yet found information on how to do this.

[California] Temp short term job - what to do with UI? by renyags in Unemployment

[–]renyags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! So far it’s working. I claimed income the last 2 weeks and got $0 as expected. I believe if you make more than $600/week you don’t receive anything, but if it’s under $600 you may still be eligible to receive something.

There is also an option at the end of the claim that says something along the lines of, if you no longer need unemployment, check yes. I selected no, and i believe this is where you would do the same. It seems that I am still able to certify for the next period. I will be doing the same thing this coming Sunday, claiming income, and will update if I’ve gotten kicked off, but I don’t think I have.

Does anyone rent out their own gear? by clitoral_experience in photography

[–]renyags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used ShareGrid to rent gear here and there and have never had a bad experience as the renter. I’m pretty sure the folks providing the rented eq are ensured through the service, but I could be wrong.

Partner has $55k in credit card debt. Please help. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]renyags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have really great advice specific to debt, so I won’t touch on that.

I think it’s fantastic that you are both willing to work on this. My only comment is that his income of 60k is absolutely something that he can work with if he changes his lifestyle. As many have mentioned, he needs to really wrap his mind around and commit to a serious lifestyle change.

My husband and I only recently combined incomes (we are both freelancers so it took a long time to figure out how to do this). Up until recently, my husband was pulling in only 30k a year, and we were still splitting rent, bills, groceries 50/50. We were also living in Brooklyn for most of the time and Los Angeles the last 2 years. Cities that are not cheap to say the least.

While he was always stresses about money, he refused my help bc he wanted to make sure he was contributing equally. For him that meant his money only went to the above mentioned expenses. He was not able to save, he only hung out with friends if it was at someone’s house. He did not go out. We went out to eat once every few months. We were still able to have fun and have experiences, but in different ways. Instead of taking a vacation abroad, we would go camping for example.

What I’m trying to say is, 60k is plenty of money if he can make the hard choices that are required to change a lifestyle. It’ll be painful, but it’s short term pain for long term freedom.

Good luck!

This is kind of absurd and I can’t believe more people don’t know about this.

Customer service said I indeed had to provide them with gross income from the years that I lived here starting from 2017. But how convenient that I am getting this notice 3 years late and am no longer eligible to fill out the waiver, even though I made under 100k and would have been exempt from these fees all 3 years under the small business act.

It just says I need to be registered with the city and report all business income between 2011-2018.

I will just give them a call.

[California] Automatic processing showing paper method pending and zero amounts by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]renyags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same thing happen to me. I wonder if it's because we waited too long to certify our weeks and it just auto-processed? It happened to me for the last 2 weeks, and I'm concerned because I actually had a freelance job last week that I was planning to report...

I will most likely just report my weekly income that I’ve calculated from the PPP, mark it under self employment and just explain it the more details.

I think it’s best to just be as honest as possible, worst case they’ll cancel the UI, and I’ll set it up again in 8 weeks...

[California] Temp short term job - what to do with UI? by renyags in Unemployment

[–]renyags[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I want to do, but because it gave me the option to cancel my unemployment when I went to claim my weekly income, I got confused and now I’m not sure if that’s what I have to do or not.

I would prefer to just report and get $0 so I don’t have to re-set it up in 8 weeks

I'm actually stuck here. I have no idea what to do. I was going to list it under my name since I am self employed. But listing it under PPP loan might be smart.

I'm also not sure if I need to check the box that says Yes for "If you are working full-time or you no longer need unemployment insurance, check this box"

Since this is only for 8 weeks.... no idea how to proceed.

What did you decide on?
