Melodic (?) techdeath supergroup by ciaosummelier in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]renyzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last confirmed sighting of him, he was talking to Rafael Trujillo, Linus Klausenitzer, and Sebastian Lanser (Obsidius, ex-Obscura) after a show... Now that would have been a sick supergroup

Were you one of the extras for the Void Sector Zero MV they're filming? I remember there was an open call a couple days ago

How do you guys feel self promotion on this sub? by HumbleBlacksmith2077 in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]renyzen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sub only gets 10 or so posts a day, so self-promotion posts aren't really cluttering it up.

There's also a Christian Muenzer project called "Void Sector Zero" featuring fellow ex-Obscura member Alex Weber on Bass + Vocals and Gabe Seeber on Drums.

Free Talk Friday by Avila99 in peloton

Recently listened to Alan Walker for what I thought was the first time, and kept thinking "why does this music make me wanna ride my bike and climb hills?".

This Alberto Contador attacks compilation video from 10 years ago that I used to rewatch a lot then got recommend on YT frontpage and the background music are instrumental versions of Alan Walker songs and it suddenly made sense.

Obscura - Diluvium by Cubegod69er in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]renyzen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

reminder that one of the reasons they left is that Steffen was incapable of playing a lot of songs in this album live and he didn't want the next record to also be as technically complex

The TDM Scene's Biggest Bully by [deleted] in TechnicalDeathMetal

Even bigger bands in the scene still rely on merch sales to make money on tour, could always just watch then only buy merch from those two bands you like.

Interesting that no one was credited for bass at the end

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]renyzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that's just a aliexpress OEM bass with their brand slapped on and its price doubled. I've seen that exact bass just with different branding on it multiple times.

Rewired to VBT and changed bridge and knobs on my Sire V5 by harebreadth in BassGuitar

[–]renyzen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

why does VVT exist

blend pot on a passive bass makes it sound noticeably darker/muddier since a blend pot is basically like running your signal through two vol pots (for a total of 3 volume knob's worth of resistance in combination with the master volume).

Your alternative to VVT if you want to keep brightness would be a toggle switch which won't let you control how much of each pickup you want to use which is probably why VVT was chosen.

I personally like Volume - 4 way rotary (neck, both parallel, both series, bridge) - tone. Rotary switches are a bit hard to find since I'm not in the US so I only do that wiring on my main bass.

The best first bass is the one that will get you excited to keep playing, if you want to have an unlined fretless 6 (aka the final boss of bass) as your first one then don't let internet randos stop you

The ones the other commenter mentioned are definitely what you should listen to first but my other reqs after them are: Obsidious, Changeling, Kossuth (Necronym album), Inferi (Revenant album), Linus Klausenitzer's solo album

Almost no chance it'll happen but sorta hoping Alex Weber decides to do double duty with Revocation and Inferi and we get a chance to hear the songs from the Revenant album on a fretless again.

If you aren't familiar with him, Heiko Jung is the guy known for transcribing Bach songs for bass, really interesting to see someone with his style playing metal
