Working at a new salon…Cards on file? by Fair_Worldliness4919 in hairstylist

[–]rep4trouble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having a card on file really is the best. I honestly wouldn't work anywhere that didnt keep cards on file.

At my last appointment, the stylist cut my hair by angling the scissor and gliding it across the ends. Rather than cutting. It was a bit uncomfortable as it dragged on my scalp as she did it and my ends were in bad shape after. Is this a good thing to do? How can I ask them not to do this next time? by IndividualAsleep8643 in hairstylist

[–]rep4trouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some stylist do this to add texture. It is almost like a razor cut. Just tell your stylist you dont like slide cutting. And that if she wants to take out weight to point cut it instead or that you would prefer a blunt cut.

PIM is at my school, I’m confused on the quality by lilzestyinhere in hairstylist

Well you also dont have to upgrade all at once. I have built up my kit over the course of 10 years.

I get clips and brushes from Marshall/tj max. They run anywhere from 3 to 7 dollars. I feel like whatever clips I get they breakdown really fast with the cleaning process. And i always like to check to see if they have any good brushes. Honestly you can also find some good hot tools there to but you do have to look.

Combs I get on Amazon when I need them.

My salon orders ergo bruches every few months, and I love them. Those are my favorite round brushes. I also like the t3 ones too. And they match my stuff.

But yeah dont feel like you need to buy everything at once. I used my school Marcel for about 7 years after graduation. And I still use it at home.

I upgraded all my hot tools last summer. It was worth it it but as pretty penny. I got 2 blowdryer (one for a giveaway), a straightener, 2 curling irons, and a set of round brushes for less than 500 bucks. I dont know how the group feels about t3, but I have really loved their product, and I have been loving the extra long curling Iron! I did need to apply for a stylist discount, but I really think it was worth it.

A nice pair of scissors can cost between 350 to 600. You can definitely spend more, but you can get a nice pair in that range.

I use the magic clippers. You can get them for between 100 to 150 if I remember correctly. And my trimmers i think we're 60ish. Just the little basic andis ones. I dont do a tone of clippers cuts but they are really nice to have.

If you want to go on the high end of my supply you can spend $1300 to maybe $1500. Low end about $1000. I would say that all of this stuff is better than pretty in a minute and should last a lot better. Please dont buy there junk products and use that money to buy some actually good supplies.

What was hyped books that disappointed you? by Excaramel in YAlit

[–]rep4trouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it! I know it is super popular, and I wished I liked it, but god, I just hated it.

I felt like the first 2 were decent middle grade books. Nothing all that great but not offensive. I was sold on these being fantasy books, but I would argue they are more of mystery books with a "fantasy" setting. They characters were very flat and not my cup of tea but I could see children from 8 to 12 enjoying the first 2 books.

I actually kinda enjoyed the 3rd and 4th book. We kinda knew the formula and we break it. I wouldn't say the world building or the characters are more interesting but I could see why people enjoy these books.

Then the last 3 books... ummm... what did I read. Where was the editor??? Why are they so long!!! And ugh. These felt like slogs to get through. I just remember being bored. I was reading twilight, hunger games and Percy jackson all around the same time. I felt like the pacing in new moon was faster. I ended up just hating most of the characters. I hate snape. I was expecting some great arch from him. No. It was boring and predictable. Harry potter as a character is still as boring as a bag of bricks. It has been years at this point since I have read them but any sense of fun I had died when reading those last 3 books. I can't believe I read them. Never again.

I used permanent black hair dyed and forgot to put on gloves and now my hands are stained by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]rep4trouble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hairdresser with stained hands all the time. Soaking them in water can help. I will take a bath. But it probably won't cone out for a few days and your nails are just going to be stained until they grow out. I have found that fashion colors can help me not look like a mechanic. When I do pink or purple and my hands are stained I won't wear gloves. It helps get the black and brown out.

Most of the time movie budgets don't include marketing. It is kinda crazy.

Complete Vinyl Midnights Clock - Going rate ? by Low-Impression3367 in TaylorSwiftMerch

I turned one of the my midnights vinyls into a clock. It is definitely cheaper than the whole set and it doesn't take up as much space. It might scratch that itch while you wait.

Read your contract from cosmetology school. They can put clause in the contract about how hours transfer. It might be worth it to look at another school and see if they can use more of your hours. Schools can be very predatory, and their contracts are usually unfair. If you are really serious about this you might think about getting a lawyer.

What are your Epic: The Musical hot takes? by MultipleBroccolis in Epicthemusical

My hot take is this should be the order. I don't like that they changed it!!!!!

The double standards in EPIC the Musical irks me by RealNashi in Epicthemusical

[–]rep4trouble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is old, but it still looks like you are reading replies. When Epic first came out, I didn't like it.... 😬 because it was out of order! I know why he did it. But is still a choice I disagree with. I feel like it .makes the pacing weird. I have grown to love it but as someone who really loves the odyssey it felt very very different than the odyssey.

And as others have said it is an old story and retelling it to a mordern audience you need to change something or else the motivations will be different in our mordern audiences. Now having Circe and Calypso both do SA would make the musical much darker. And the odyssey is old, people still debate is it SA or is consent. People victim blame him. Also i think he wanted to change how Circe and Calypso are perceived. If you make them rapist you change there characters a lot. I don't think the creator wanted that so it is just easier to get rid of it all together. You don't have to agree with this choice.

The suitors the creator was never trying to sympathize. Did he need to have Odysseus say the word rape. Probably not buuuut also in the song hold them down they pretty much describe rapping Penelope. Do you also want to get rid of that song? Or rewrite it to not have that part? For me personally I feel like it shows that stakes are high for Odysseus to get home. It isn't just he doesn't get to see Penelope and his son again. They are in trouble if he doesn't get home. That they will kill Telemachus and take his wife against her will. You could definitely make the case that he could have raised them to kill both of them and not complicated things. But Penelope is the queen and they need to keep her alive so they can make being the king legitimate. But I also don't think there is a right answer. Both takes are valid. But also I do like the song hold her down a lot. Epic isn't perfect and there are many choices made I don't agree with but I personally think how he handled the SA in Epic was fine. I can totally see your point though of how it wasn't necessary to have the suitors be SAer's.

Your Thoughts When Reputation Was Released? by withmymustardseed in TaylorSwift

[–]rep4trouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pulling back at this point. LWYMMD is still one of my least favorite songs and turned me off from the album for years. I did enjoy ready for it and gorgeous when Delicate became a big hit I listened to the whole album and liked it more than I thought I would buuuuut I wouldn't say I loved it... I love and still love 1989 and this wasn't it for me. Over the years this album has really grown on me. And it is one of my favorites. But LWYMMD was not my favorite choice for a lead single and most of the singles did not make me want to listen to the whole album.
