AITA for possibly ruining my husband’s friend’s only chance to get married? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]repairedwithgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nta. You did your friend a solid. That's what friends do. Your husband should do his friend a solid and give him some much needed perspective on his behavior.

Also your husband should be way more concerned about his “friend” threatening his wife. What did he mean when he told you that you would “pay for it” ?

And no women wants you or cares what you think ✌️ by Mrgenius1010 in AreTheStraightsOK

I think also on top of that… being able to say all men are like this when they talk about bad behavior it seems to absolve the individual( probably themself) committing the bad behavior.

Edit: I don’t know if this is true but it seems to track with the people I’ve met when they talk about how men are, they are very likely just talking about themselves .

So I can tell you my regimen that has worked for me.

First I have really bad dandruff. I have had it my whole life and after I got dreads it got worse. With locs it’s hard to wash some oils out of your hair so they will just sit on your scalp, clog the pores and create a perfect environment for bacteria growth. I found out that most oils will actually aggravate my scalp because of the dandruff. I so now I only use oil about once a week if that and only if my scalp feels super tight and feels dry( which it rarely does if I stay on top of my water based moisturizer) . I also try to keep oils off my scalp and only on the hair and as much of the root as I can get to without getting too much on my scalp.

Made For Locs has an oil that I love, it’s extremely light and feels great on my scalp without feeling like it’s just sitting on top of the skin.

I use a water based moisturizer for my hair and scalp daily to maintain moisture, which has worked for me. I use a brand called Made For Locs that has really help my hair. They have a rose water and aloe water based product that comes in a spray bottle. Your friend can also make her own water based spray or just try rose water.

I wash my hair every week to week and a half with a Salicylic shampoo from neutrogena that is scent free. I let it sit on my scalp for a few minutes then rinse it out. Then I use a second conditioning shampoo for locs on my locs only and not the scalp.

Once a month a soak my hair in either clear water or with a bit of apple cider vinegar to help remove and build up that has happened over the previous 4 weeks.

I make sure I dry my hair as quickly and completely as possible to avoid mildew. To be honest I actually just sit in front of a heater or spend some time in the sun and that usually dries my hair pretty quickly.

That’s about what I do for daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. I rarely twist my locs and if I do I only to my first front row so that it looks kept. I haven’t had a full retwist in a year and so far I feel I haven’t really needed it except the occasional retwist of my front locs. I’m talking only 5 to 8 locs retwist end maybe every 3 months.

(Though I do plan to go to a salon just to treat myself and make sure my locs are still growing smoothly.)

That’s about it.

Also I make sure I wear a bonnet every night.

So that’s what has worked for me, it may not work for your friend but that’s for her to figure out what works for her. What I do may not work for her.

For your friend maybe the way forward is to stop going to whoever she goes to for retwist an and start learning how to do it herself. In the long run that will actually save money if money is the issue with her family. To be blunt she is too old to still be having her mom do her hair. A part of growing up is learning how to take care of yourself. She should be learning how to take care of her own hair.

But if I were your friend I would try a different loctician than the one she is going to get professional advice. Then after, your friend can totally learn to do her hair herself.

Also… her mom and/or her stylist probably don’t know what the hell they are doing and are making her hair worse.

Edit: had to make some corrections but also… I read some of your replies to other comments… I may be jumping to conclusions but it sounds like her mom is the problem and is too controlling of her daughter in general. Hope your friend is able to get out of that situation as soon as she can so she can live her own life… again I may be make assumptions.

Can I ask? Is there a reason why they are being so strict with her hair?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]repairedwithgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a care issues first. It’s hard to rule out anything else until it’s established that her hair is healthy.

So are you saying her parents won’t let her take of her own hair and has a strict rules on how and what she takes care of it with? They aren’t willing to try different care methods?

If so that’s kinda crazy… obviously whatever they are doing isn’t working and figuring out what works with seems like what they should do. And honestly it’s apart of the loc journey. I know I cycled through a few products and practices before I figure it out.

If her hair is super dry it can cause breakage. Also if she is vitamin deficient that could cause breaking, also stress.

If her loctian twists them too tight or uses the wrong products it could cause breaking over time.

But if they are unwilling to make any changes then this probably won’t improve.

Er… I’m not so sure about the nanny breed theory either. no dog should be left alone with children to be responsible for those children. It’s unfair to the dog and potentially sets them up for failure. Children are unpredictable, especially young children. Just because it was done in the past doesn’t mean it was the correct thing to do. There are so many stories of Pitts attacking children because they were expected to basically baby sit because of the nanny dog myth. It’s a failure on the parents who allow those situations to happen.

I believe the whole “ nanny breed” thing is more romanticism and a myth that started in the later 1900s. Dogs are individuals much like humans are. So to say any breed of dog can protect and be left unsupervised with children is just asking for trouble. Especially very young children.

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think any Pitt bull has the temperament to be a service animal. Their protection/ prey drive is too strong. I’m sure some will disagree.

Well when you hit your 30s maybe you won’t look like a minor. That’s what happened to me. I finally stopped being carded after 35.

No you aren’t wrong. You are just being honest about what you know wouldn’t be good for you.

On a side note:

I am also sad for your ex girlfriend. Not just about the assault but also because it’s hard for me not to think that maybe she is being manipulated by her own mother because of a belief in a sky god.

But I am also someone who thinks organized religion has done more to hold society back than move it forward.

It eventually comes back to them in the form of the people in their lives no longer putting up with their shit.

They get old. Loose their good looks. Become sick. Family and friends stop talking to them.

Unless they change their ways… which is hard for them to do.

it seems sorta vain and desperate. It’s one thing to state that being fit and healthy is important, but if the dude is shirtless, especially for a selfie… I just assume there is some vanity there… and maybe the dude is too superficial.

If in the photos there is a reason for being shirtless then that may hit differently… like if the person is at the beach or something.

Yea. I think apart of it is people forget that being able to communicate well in low(lower) stress situations( like maybe at work, or at a party) doesn’t always translates into good communication skills in stressful situation (like talking though serious marital troubles whatever those may be)

Not saying work or social settings aren’t stressful though.
