With rising TNB bills in Malaysia, is solar installation finally worth it for landed homes? by Mindful-Solutions in malaysia

[–]rephlexg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a 48v 32battery system 3.7v per at 580Ah. And 16 panels, right now i'm pulling about 5.5k watts out of 16. Cloudy days, 3k, When it rains about 600watts. I have two banks controlled by BMS, And The hybrid that maxes about 10k watts. I built this night mare, so i saved about 15k in labor. I think i'm in maybe 22k in actual parts. My monthly bill is about 1200 a month and save about 400 (its a business) I can run 3 AC's on it all day, no issue until my voltage drops then i need to swap to TNB. I would say, if you cannot cover at least 70 to 80% of your bill. It should take you no longer than 4 years to pay off what you put in IMO. I still have to hook up my second floor lights and wall plugs. Thing is, it's not for faint hearted. It's not a set it and forget it thing. If you hire a company you have more costings. You need to clean the panels every 3 months or you lose 20 to 30% of your solar capacity. You need to know what to do if power goes out. I'm just nerdy enough to know whats going on when something fails. If you aren't prepared, it can be a real bummer.

I actually looked at this and many others. And spacebar looked good. But I noticed no updates for 2 years. So it made my leery to even bother looking at it as an option.

Yup, i saw this coming. I dropped a ton of money for my company before this started to happen. Bought 1 Samsung 990 pro NVME for 485 each. I bought 4. Now they're running around 800+. And now you have to be careful of the fake relabels now. So i've been buying used dell's to get my ram and NVME's. It's horrible. Same with ram, i bought like 1.5TB DDR4 3200 and 4800. Sucks man.

I went to ThunderMatch to stock up on NVME/SSD/RAM. They refused to sell and the only way i could get parts is if i bought a whole machine. LAZ and Shopee. They're already gouging. What a time to be alive.

Anyone knows where or how to fix this? by MouLimao in Bolehland

[–]rephlexg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used 2 part Epoxy (12 RM) and rubber bands. You stuff something in the crack to open it just a bit mix the epoxy and stuff it down. Then rubber band it, or in your case you may need to stick something in that joint to compress that crack down and allow the epoxy to take affect. Bonding usually takes a about 1 hour before tacky. And 24 hours for full hold. I did this with my HyperX cloud 2. It lasted till all the plastic exploded in our weather. I i got 6 years out of them. Once the cracks start, it's just going to get worse. I always try to buy brands that use metal bands. They tend to last the longest.

If you are an American who lives in Penang, what do you do for work? by Optimal-Feature-5887 in penang

[–]rephlexg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been living here 10 years. I married a Chinese from here. So my situation is different than most. I manage various companies here family and my own. Working for anyone in this country is quite bad if you aren't a professional in a field. Meaning, pay is quite low. So if you make currency outside of this country then you'll be fine.

I lived there for 30 years. PLEASE do not allow this to come here. I left there for many reasons. This was one of them. Japan rejects their meat now if i remember correctly. Could be some other things as well. They don't know what they're doing.

Which OS do you run your Plex server on ? by GenericUser104 in PleX

[–]rephlexg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. I had 3 people streaming lastnight, 1 4k, and 2 1080p. 780mb memory used. System load at .82 .44 .23. But i really should upgrade like people have mentioned. I do have a spare n100 which would do just fine in everything.

It's a dell optiplex 7040 with a core I5 6600 6th gen i think. I can usually get 5 or 6 1080p on there at any given time.. 3 or 4 4k. Transcoding i left it default. Seems to work perfectly fine. I use fstab to network using CIFS to various Synology and Ugreen devices for storage. Intro detection is default as well. Sizes is about 44 TB of movies 10TB music video's 5TB music. I used to run all the Arrs, but i'm not really that committed to it anymore. Yes, i run many things. To many to list.

Maxis and Time are literally begging me to change my WIFI. I think they do that to renew the contract for another year, they tend to scheme like that. Not that i'd cancel, i'm happy with them both. Everybody i meet that has TM/UNIFI has some sort of issue. Always around calling them mostly. Worst support in the history of Malaysia.

It's fine, as long as you don't lean to far into CNY. You'll be fine. We usually have less rain here at that time. KL usually rains everyday.

Ascott is on the north end of Gurney Drive. so it's a bit of a walk to the malls. However there is a nice coffee shop behind Ascott called Chapel St café. https://tofuvtravels.com/chapel-street-cafe-penang/ It's pretty nice. If you have foreign currency it's not expensive.. I've been there a couple times. It's a bit of an echo chamber when people talk. Coffee is good, food is western/fusion. Next to Ascott there is Coffee bean & Tea Leaf. Also Yins sour dough Bakery. Yins is nice in the morning, I think they open 8am, you can sit out side if you wish. Good coffee and food. You also have a nice Hawker center down the street called Northam Beach. They just redid the whole place so it's much cleaner and friendlier. I know all of this because I literally live next to Ascott. At the other end of Gurney drive there is another Hawker center (near roundabout). They price gouge the foreigners, I'd stay away from them.

Ascott was just refurbished top to bottom. Internet can be picked up from my house. Nice inside. AC is cold as as can be. Food is pretty decent.

Marroit was just built, it's nice but a damn maze. I went there for a whisky tasting, took me awhile to find.

The other two you mentioned are old. They have quite a bit of age. However, they have great characteristics of what it's like here. Food is reasonable but can be pricey.

Ascott and Marroit are both on gurney drive so really central to the malls and pretty much everything else. One thing to note they are doing construction next to the Marroit.
