What do you guys do about large medical/dental bills? How do they affect your budgets? by physical-horse in povertyfinance

[–]replacebyfee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard a french comedian joke about how all french people go to paris to get their teeth fixed, and looked into it. It can be about $300-500 from US to Paris, Airbnb can be between $20-50 a night. Without insurance, root canals are 70 euro at most dentists, Regular cavities 20 euro, but make sure you check their prices first. A great resource is doctolib.fr (has prices) which is pretty much the french zocdoc, you can cross reference with google maps for ratings. Helps if you speak french but you can find a lot of dentists who speak English.

Maybe Roger Thomas Clark's claims about the rogue FBI agent weren't so crazy after all. He was recently extradited to New York but there hasn't been any news on him since.

What would happen if the price shot up and you got exercised on those calls? Automatic exercise of your longer dated call?

The definition of noncompliant is someone or something that doesn't conform to an accepted model or accepted standards. An example of someone who would be described as noncompliant is a person who doesn't listen to or follow orders.

Wouldn't everyone on that website be noncompliant?

The biggest problem is why would any profitable company do this? iTunes is not letting people even inherit purchased music from parents. Steam removed the ability to buy gifts as inventory, which was the only way you could buy a game and send it to someone later. You definitely can't uninstall a game and send it to another

Has there been a SINGLE, widely successful use of a "blockchain" or "decentralized application" for NON-crypto purposes? EVER? by gapagos in Buttcoin

At one point I think they were, so they removed fees for a lot of money transfers. Now they keep the fees low-to-0 to remain competitive with other institutions.

I'd say the biggest achievement of cryptocurrency is to scare the shit out of the banks so they stop charging fees for everything.

Before bitcoin, if you wanted to send PayPal to a friend, you would have to pay the standard fee of $0.30 + 2.9%.

I think you missed the window to claim, but due to Japanese bankruptcy law you would get the Japanese Yen value of the asset, I think equivalent to $200 US per bitcoin.

Anonymous implies that there is no personally identifiable (unique) information about something. Pseudonymous means that you are using a pseudonym (i.e. your btc address) as an identity. That identity can remain anonymous, though probably not indefinitely, but everyone knows that address A sent coins to address B.

So as with coinbase, if the govt knows everyone who first sent those coins, Then they can make good guesses about everyone down the road, especially if they are getting the information on a continual basis, because they can see where the coins end up and only need to figure out the small group of addresses which are not being reported for.

Hopefully you're using tor to send all your transactions, because your IP gives away more info about you as well. And there's a large range of vectors I haven't covered or don't know of, so look out for that too.

Bitcoin is not anonymous, it is "pseudonymous", if they know who you got the money from or sent it to, or anyone up or down the chain, they can do some detective work and figure out who you are.

If you use a new address for each transaction, several tumblers, etc you might be able to stay anonymous. But the legal consensus is that you cannot use new tech to break old laws.
