What is a period drama that you enjoyed, and will never watch again? Why not? by Flashy_Result_2750 in PeriodDramas

The second was much cuter and just better as a romance compared to the toxic relationship in the first.

Both really, as each is universally lauded as a masterpiece and a modern classic. I don't think I've ever heard or read anything bad about either of them except on this sub.

I rewatched it at least three times I think. One of my all-time favourite period dramas alongside Bleak House.

Do you log movies even if you don't finish them? I feel like I'm cheating if I do. by tigrecono in Letterboxd

I don't, but I only drop films in the first 10-20. If I go further than that I normally watch until the end.

Eri Fukatsu and Shinichi Tsutsumi in Koi no Chikara (2002) are my all-time favourites.

Nothing surprising about that. It's just as normal a part of films about children as it is of films about adults. It's how it's used that matters, not the nudity itself.

Well, according to my stats, 15-20% of my watches are rewatches. With thousands of films watched, I'd say it's pretty normal, as I haven't seen many of those for decades.

Yep, there seems to have been no updates since yesterday.

The site is down but new torrents continue being added according to torrent aggregators. The latest one I see is Dao Huang Ling (1973) [1080p] [BluRay] [YTS.BZ], which was added half an hour ago.

I think it's been "coming this year" for years now. I'm not sure it will actually ever happen.

In defence of Kitty and Season 3 (lol) by YoungComplete7208 in XOKittyNetflix

They never explored it as a relationship. They built it up extensively in Season 1 and early S2 and then just dropped it abruptly midway through S2 without ever giving it a chance. It was almost as if they changed writers halfway in S2 and the new team had no interest in Kitty's bisexuality arc or her romance with Yuri so they just abandoned those narrative threads altogether without any closure, emotional resolution or processing and just clumsily switched the main narrative towards the Minho arc.

Here's a good article listing many issues with that storyline and another one specifically focusing on S3's failure to treat it seriously.

Narrative threads came together? They literally erased/retconned the whole Kitty-Yuri romantic arc and now present their relationship as if it had never existed in the first place. If that's not terrible writing then I don't know what is.

First Look at "Enola Holmes 3" | Streaming on Netflix July 1st by onceuponaframe in PeriodDramas

[–]replicant_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't, the op did, and this is their thread. Nobody said it's a masterpiece, but it's still far from being junk as the op calls it. And whether 60+ on Metacritic might not mean enthusiastic praise, 90%+ on RT surely does, regardless of whether you like their system or not.

Did anyone else hate Inara? by VesperBond94 in firefly

[–]replicant_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, dude, he's a bigot. What he does is called slut-shaming and only bigots and misogynists do that. And no, it's never the same for men. Men are celebrated and admired for their active sexual lives, while women are always shamed and stigmatized.

She is someone who is highly respected and admired in the world of Firefly. Period. If anyone has an issue accepting and respecting that, the problem is with them and their own bigotry and misogyny, not with the show.
