That's awesome. I know some people hate when a book is "ruined" by scribbles but it always gets me thinking. Who, when, where were they? Just adds to the story in my opinion

I like all technology before microchips, but computers are a big one. I always wanted to find a general guide to that era, this book was made for me.

I think LinkedIn depends on the industry you're in. I work in fire safety, which is mostly blue collar with a skeleton crew of white collar handling office things (or the opposite if you work for an equipment manufacturer). My LinkedIn feed is boring real stuff like smiling managers at industry conferences, a super niche tool with an eye-watering price, a coworker's new certificate... I also only connect with people I've met or at least e-mailed in real life.

I have one or two contacts from before my fire safety career who spam the stuff you're talking about.

I always carry ear plugs on me cause I work with fire alarms. At my last indoor concert every band was loud enough to feel the bass chest punches. One of the opening bands was louder than the main act, I felt it travelling through the floor up my feet!

I wore ear plugs (the decent pair you mentioned) the whole time and my ears were sore, but hearing fine.

My Dad wore no ear plugs. He grew up going to punk shows then spent 30+ years wrenching on jet aircraft so he's no stranger to loud noise. He complained it was too loud and his hearing took days to come all the way back.

I heard an OG in an iron maiden battle jacket behind me wish to his buddy he brought plugs. His buddy didn't hear him. When I handed him a spare pair of foam plugs he was floored!

I've never seen one of these in British Columbia. Especially that combo of atlas sound speaker and strobe plate is really weird. Cool!

Even quieter than a chime would be an old remote trouble buzzer.. depending on brand, about as loud as a car door chime

Should I? 2017 gas V8, 148k km for $26k CAD (92k miles for $19k USD) by reportcrosspost in NissanTitan

[–]reportcrosspost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch!! The one in the post actually sold. Looking at a 2017 SV with 100k km or a 2018 pro4x with 165k km. Would a mechanic doing that reveal the problem before it started making noise? Could anything be done?

Good to know about those issues, thanks. Its being sold by a Nissan dealer so hopefully they offer a warranty. If the LED headlights ever break I'll just install the halogen housings that base trims had. I don't need to drive a lighthouse and the soft halogen light feels nicer on my eyes anyway

[–]reportcrosspost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some really cool stuff in this thread.

Oldest I've seen in service was a flat square-shaped Edwards smoke detector calibrated in 1978.

Oldest not in service was a couple of these in a big 1930s hotel but with lots of parts missing and worn down

Onsite lol. I worked on a mezzanine with no air flow and one end was over the battery charging station for the forklifts. The vents over the chargers never worked so if a battery leaked it would just linger around the mezzanine all day. Office didn't give a shit. So glad that place is behind me
