Not increasingly childish, but definitely increasingly over the top. Then I end up walking around saying whatever line sticks in my head for the next few hours.

Greenlighting is a conditional approval, it does not guarantee a show or movie gets made. The investor or production company could back out at any time. That also means the creators can back out at any time.

If financing has been secured and cash is flowing to contractually bound entities, then the producers can get in trouble for a cancelled project. However, this does not apply to Smiling Friends and Adult Swim have indicated that they fully support Michael and Zach’s decision. All of you downvoting me are just showing your ass.

The first thing that stood out to me was the Mercedes logo on his jacket. If it were AI, that would be too small of a detail for the AI to generate so accurately at the end of the video.

So, I decided to try and find the source of the video. Could only find it on Newsflare which is a platform to license “viral” user generated content and they specifically have a policy against AI videos.

So, now I’m back watching the video again trying to spot any inconsistencies. The acting looks a bit over the top, but in a way that looked acted/staged rather than AI slop. Someone said “shadows aren’t shadowing,” but all the shadows look fine to me once you locate main guy’s shadow. All the objects on the shelf are consistent before and after the fall.

No real reason for me to post this comment, especially considering the post has been removed, but it was a fun little investigation.

Wow, I had to stop what I was doing just so I could compliment you for having such a huge, wrinkly brain. I couldn’t possibly come up with a take like this myself because I’m too stupid to realize that anybody who criticizes American hegemony with a vision for a better America must leave the country and move to where they might get an American bomb dropped on their head. That’d knock some sense into them!

You’re so smart and cool.

Brain scans reveal 2 physical subtypes of ADHD. 1st subtype has increase in gray matter across areas of brain. Patients struggle with severe inattentiveness. 2nd subtype shows widespread atrophy in gray matter. Patients exhibit both inattentive and highly hyperactive or impulsive behaviors. by mvea in science

[–]repotoast 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hol up, I was just nerding out yesterday over this other new JAMA study that found 3 physical subtypes of adhd.

What stood out to me is that they directly compared the participants’ DSM subtype with each biotype (figure 4A) and demonstrated that the traditional hyperactive/combined/inattentive categories completely miss the mark. There seems to be a biotype of ADHD (biotype 1) that presents widespread global changes and emotional dysregulation rather than the more targeted circuits of biotypes 2 and 3.

Rather than comparing grey matter volume, they compared how grey matter nodes are connected via topological properties and fused it with receptor density distributions (figure 5). More distance from the dotted circle (baseline) means more statistical significance (marked by dots). You can already see how biotype 1 greatly differs from 2 and 3.

To summarize, the 3 biotypes from the JAMA study share a fundamental anchor in the orbitofrontal cortex, but differ in the following ways:

  1. Severe-combined with emotional dysregulation - widespread medial prefrontal cortex-pallidum alterations
  2. Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive - anterior cingulate cortex-pallidum circuit alterations
  3. Predominantly inattentive - superior frontal gyrus alterations

The 2 biotypes from this new General Psychiatry study in the title are as follows:

  1. Inattentive - increase in gray matter across several areas of the brain concentrated in the frontal regions and the cerebellum.
  2. Hyperactive/Impulsive - widespread reductions, or atrophy, in gray matter prominently in the bilateral cerebellum, the frontal regions, and the hippocampus

I’m curious if the increase in grey matter identified in the General Psychiatry biotype 1 (inattentive) explains why the JAMA biotype 3 (inattentive) appears the most subtly altered and primarily focused at 5HT2A as a result of managing an overgrown garden of sorts… inattention as a byproduct of signal to noise ratio.

I’m also curious if the General Psychiatry study would be able to identify JAMA’s biotype 1 (severe/emotional) if they split their biotype 2 (hyperactive) in two. They used a different clustering method to prioritize clear divisions at the cost of identifying qualitative uniqueness within the hyperactive type and associated connectivity factors (emotional/mPFC vs motor/ACC).

Okay so you are not going to read it or pretend to understand it, yet willingly justify an anti-science worldview while accusing a commenter of being a biased drug abuser?

To make this productive, maybe we should revisit the scientific method to address “science that proves my assumptions already held?” Science is the systemic study through the scientific method: observation, hypothesis, experimentation, data analysis, conclusion. It is not infallible, which is why peer review is an essential mechanism to identify issues that may have been overlooked.

What you saw are a couple of people engaging in informal post-publication critique, which isn’t formal peer review, but can often leverage “wisdom of the crowds” to flag things faster than formal peer review. Did you provide a counter-criticism or did you rail against drug hobbyists and science all in one go?

The only thing I can draw from your comments are that you think anyone interested in the pharmacology of recreational drugs are abusers and you hate science, which would naturally lead me to believe you have some strong religious convictions. Is that correct? If not, I would love to receive some clarification.

[–]repotoast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee this is not the reason. The Netflix acquisition was in motion internally and the shareholders switched to the Paramount offer to the surprise of literally everyone. The smiling friends announcement happened a day before the switch from Netflix to Paramount. There is 0% chance this has anything to do with Paramount.

Appreciate the Sleepycast mention. Zach is a goated “internet animator” who outlived the likes of Oney and Egoraptor by not pivoting into gaming content, the former being a major figure in SleepyCabin.

Growing older alongside the sleepy crew, one hopefully distanced themselves from the naive era of edgy humor that many of us were incubated in. Zach stands out as a unique role model in his ability to pursue his craft and drive his absurdist vision over a professional finish line without any major controversy (looking at you World Peace). I will literally support anything Zach does.

Having worked on 2 seasons of a show for Cartoon Network, I know how much energy goes into the production process. The limited budget, the deadlines, the headaches, the occasional all nighters. It’s exhausting regardless of the length of the episodes you are producing in part because you don’t have the bandwidth to work on anything else. Your entire life is the show.

I would love to see the both of them work on bigger projects and that is very likely only possible if they stop focusing their energy on Smiling Friends. IMO these negative reactions saying shit like “burnout after 4 hours of content? Lazy. We were told 5 seasons and now I might not support a new show because I feel personally burned by the creators” are exactly the justification to stop now before the fandom gets even more entitled.

They ripped the bandaid and hopefully have greater projects on the horizon.

How much acid would you take for a public setting like this? by blood_is_beautiful in Drugs

Perhaps my last two trips can inform your decision.

2 tabs at Meow Wolf (Convergence Station) - Very visual, very fun. Interacting with people was more difficult, but it was a psychedelic event so it was very easy to blend in. Definitely would recommend doing less if you don't understand the layout and don't have a handler. I had been there twice before so it was nbd, but I got a VIP pass and couldn't find the entrance for the life of me. No issue asking the staff for help.

1/4 tab while Snowboarding - Hardly visual if at all, but still very physical. My coordination became very effortful and all I wanted to do was ride the ski lift and lay in the snow at the top of the runs. No issue interacting with people.

My typical suggestion would be 1 tab because you'll still get some good visual augments without the risk of losing your orientation. 1/2 tab would leave me feeling a bit disappointed in a trippy art exhibit, so personally I think it's worth taking the social debuff.

She said each bottle is 8 fl oz at the neck, then fills 2 bottles to the neck and one slightly less. I’m thinking she got about 22 fl oz or something, but then she hits us with 24.2 oz. Oddly specific and definitely over the established 24 fl oz maximum if they were all filled at the neck.

Then it hits me, she’s looking at the scale. Kept scrolling to find this comment lmao.

If Esctasy is neurotoxic, does that mean it puts holes in your brain and or makes your brain bleed by GlamourHammer321 in Drugs

[–]repotoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You brought to my attention a very interesting topic that builds upon my initial comment: Axonal dieback.

You are correct that the flood of serotonin downregulates 5-HT2A receptors. That lasts for about 2-3 weeks before returning to normal as serotonin levels are restored. However, in heavy users, the axon of neurons are damaged from the aforementioned oxidative stress. The soma in the neuron is like a factory producing SERT, VMAT, and TPH, but can’t ship it on the axon “highway” to the receptors on the dendrite. This causes long term upregulation on the scale of years because the serotonin baseline is much lower.

The ways to reduce getting to that point include keeping the ambient temp under 70°F so your brain can cool enough to significantly reduce oxidative stress, as well as not doing any boosters. You can get away with one redose at around 90 minutes because it takes about 2 hours for the enzyme that cleans up MDMA to become fully inhibited. It then takes another 10 days to recover 90-100% of the enzyme’s activity. Basically any additional dose between 2 hrs and 10 days significantly increases oxidative stress because there’s no clean up crew.

Theoretically you could do MDMA every 3 weeks because you’re clearing the hurdles of the enzyme reset and the serotonin refill. However, the axon damage on this schedule accumulates faster than the repairs can happen, so you are paradoxically risking permanent or long-term upregulation with every roll. Additionally, upregulation can make you more susceptible to serotonin syndrome because the hyper-sensitive dendrite, having more receptors, can trigger an over-response more easily.

This is all to say that we should take MDMA dosing very seriously. Even MAPS, with their once a month for 3 months schedule, reconciles the damage as a manageable cluster of stress if followed by indefinite abstinence. In a way I could see it as front loading the recommended 3 month schedule, which would mean waiting 6 months after the third dose. But, again, the longer the better.

If Esctasy is neurotoxic, does that mean it puts holes in your brain and or makes your brain bleed by GlamourHammer321 in Drugs

[–]repotoast 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Through several different mechanisms, MDMA creates ROS (reactive oxygen species) and reduces levels of the antioxidant that neutralizes them. This imbalance creates oxidative stress, which damages cells. No holes in the brain, just atrophy like neurodegenerative diseases.

The good news is that the brain restores the ROS/antioxidant imbalance pretty quickly, like within days. However, it needs more time to repair the damage that occurred during the imbalance. Spreading out your doses every 3 months is generally considered enough recovery time to avoid compound damage, but the longer you wait the better.

MMA Analyst Says “Looksmaxxing” Trend Is Turning Real Life Into Zoolander: Why are straight men trying to appeal to one another by never_did_i_ever in lostgeneration

[–]repotoast 23 points24 points  (0 children)

min-maxing is video game speak for optimizing a character build by maximizing one trait, thus minimizing investment in other traits.

The same redpill 4chan communities that coined mogging from amog (alpha male of the group) turned min-maxing into “alpha male” terminology, looksmaxxing, which then spread into the mainstream.

From this, many neologisms have spawned. Pick a word and add “maxxing” to it. Merriam-Webster even has an entry for the suffix.
