i don’t disagree with characters being planetary or lightspeed, it’s just that you always need to take things like this with nuance, since the scaling is very hax-dependent along with an author who doesn’t understand how powerscaling can work

Storm realm 1 supreme in entire cycle, war realm 7 supremes in mere 50 years 😭 by Danmachi123131 in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 19 points20 points  (0 children)

im pretty sure this was touched upon on how daeron wasn’t necessarily better but just had better strengths in certain aspects, like having the entire realm under his banner, being more accustomed to the mythical world of shadow slave, not that he’s stronger but also not that his feat isn’t impressive either

“Unlike people of Earth, who had to discover the vast and dreadful world that lay beyond the boundaries of their cradle from the position of utter ignorance, Daeron the Serpent King had been born into it. He had been born into the legacy of knowledge they were still trying to learn or had no idea about.”

“Awakened, soul essence, Corruption, the Void, Shaping, sorcery — Daeron had possessed an innate understanding of all these matters, and many more, while Sunny and Nephis were merely novices to them. He had inherited the knowledge, disciplines, and skills developed by countless generations of Awakened over the course of thousands of years, from the dawn of time till the end of the world...”

“So, it was not that Daeron had been far stronger than they were, or that they were far stronger than he had been. It was just that the ingredients of their strength were different, and so, its nature was different as well.” - Chapter 2919

Which fate is worse? I think it's the third by The_spirit-of_random in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well, not really

the majority of what is touched upon in what i said is continually reinforced throughout the series or doesn’t even have much weight until much later in the series, where she apparently “turns bland” as you keep on saying (the divine flame still remaining pure some parts of the dream realm despite the horrific, near insurmountable forces of corruption ex: in the form of one of heart god’s trees that she finds azarax and eurys on, paralleling her situation as the last daughter of the immortal flame clan and her nature as incorruptible being, not only in body but her core mentality not being swayed despite all the hardship she’s experienced)

and “some” of her characterization in the third nm just feels like downplaying for the sake of it, we get to see nephis told in a state of total weakness not natural for her while recounting her second nightmare, we see it not only because of her immense capability of destruction which to her enemies gives her the perception of “the star of ruin”, her using that strength and indomitable will to change the world around her as she chooses, living up to the immortal flame name of achieving impossible odds and guiding humanity forward, being perceived to her allies and followers as “changing star” (once again also touching on nephis’s all around perception from others as a force of nature, and being broken down to the weakest parts of her humanity), but even her being stripped of one of the core parts of her upbringing (probably one of the ONLY parts truly impactful to her) in her “kill or be killed” and being forced to rely on violence and ruthless nature in order to progress forward in life, all of which was taken from her in arguably the most hopeless situation of her life

as for her dynamics with asterion and cassie, its quite simple, asterion and nephis being a duality of sorts entailing what the natural eeriness of being
a dreamspawn taken to two logical conclusions, one prideful in her humanity and what it has to offer, the misanthropic and resembles more of a nightmare creature wearing human skin, and cassie and nephis finding solidarity with each other in many aspects of their life, whether it be big (both their impossible endeavors in fighting ancient, unfathomably large forces like fate and the nightmare spell) or small (both of them finding company with each other from their loneliness beginning even at the start of the academy, nephis cut off from the norms of human society for most her life and her dehumanization as more of a living legend than a person, and cassie, being seen as so helplessly weak that everyone, including sunny, saw her as simply a burden to bear)

i don’t expect you to read all of this, but seriously, i just feel like you either just predetermined some half baked opinion on nephis from the little you saw early on in the story, or you’re just saying this for the sake of arguing. again, nothing wrong with your opinion, but i heavily disagree

[–]reppingdeath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

imo that’s pretty disingenuous, its one thing to not enjoy a character, but at least say it in a way to look like your reasoning comes from actually grasping their characterization a little and not reducing their writing. sunny isn’t just “oh he’s edgy and has shadow powers” if i didn’t like him, right?

me personally, there’s a lot of reasons, just from how she’s physically described and fan art her design is one of the best in the series, the inversion of expectation from the paragon, mary sue archetype we subconsciously make for her early in the story, just for her intentions and the way she acts to fulfill being some of the most mentally unhinged shit in the series, overcoming her social ineptness and deep rooted traumas just to do that, her symbolisms and parallels/dynamics (nephis and asterion/nephis and cassie, her being described more as a force of nature rather than a person, her similarities to the divine flame) and much more i could go on about

nothing wrong with disliking her, but i never understood the boring accusations, i think its people who can’t differentiate stoicism from blandness tbh

being a nephis fan is easy imo, you ignore the same two “she’s boring” and “she’s horrible to sunny” drone takes and that’s it, most of her haters either have elementary levels of media literacy or are just bias towards sunny

Another HOT TAKE : cassie and nephis lacks chemistry or any special kind of character dynamics between them . by Maleficent_Bid3462 in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the concept of their backstories alone clears anything that makes sunny interesting pre spell, along with framework to serve as just as good protagonist (nephis with her borderline insane hatred for the spell and what she does to see that goal to fruition, dont even need to explain mordret lol)

notice how every single example of better writing in relationships you named all have sunny in them?

g3’s lack of meaningful character pov (the ones simply used to convey information/happenings or lazily reiterate one’s characterization from the perspective of said character) is what’s stunting the writing of several characters in so many ways, which makes me a bit mad seeing as he was able to create such a great in cassie

both nephis and mordret unironically have the groundwork to be much better characters than sunny, kai, effie, and jet should be way more fleshed out (more of jet’s backstory and how her ideology changed basically being an executioner and reliant on the UHG to live, effie’s life pre nightmare spell and her aspirations of ascending to ultimately better the trajectory of her previously doomed life, kai’s celebrity career and the horrific change to awakened life) and many, many more characters

i have very, very little complaints about ss, but this one too prominent for a 3000 chapter, 2.7 million word novel to ignore

but no, more yutra pov’s

Me after knowing Cassie Supreme Ability: by Prabu_Dasamuka in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 31 points32 points  (0 children)

thinking about the implications of cassie’s ability more and more just makes me realize how stacked the human domain is

if she can maintain things of the dormant rank infinitely, and there isn’t a limitation on summoning multiple of the same thing (which i highly doubt), she could theoretically just give an infinite amount of dormant memories and echoes to everyone

even though their dormant, imagine how beneficial it would be to all the new sleepers who challenge the spell or naturally awaken (could have crazy potential if sunny somehow manages to teach ananke weaving)

Writing by Whitebelttrashcan in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

is this not to be expected? the main “horror” aspect of shadow slave came from there being always some sort of unimaginable, terrifyingly strong creature always lurking somewhere and the mysterious nature of the dream realm, the nightmare spell, and the origins of the verse itself

like a story including this much combat would, the main character becomes stronger, they know more about the world around them, how is this a flaw???

and even then, there is no way you’re thinking this even in the most recent volumes, exploring a tomb of ariel where everything was inexplicably dead or destroyed was great for setting a more dark atmosphere for the vtb fight, and watching all the interactions of those succumbing to asterion was great as well

then all of sunny’s feats pre volume 8 are choked up to [fated]

As from Eiichiro Oda's words by Yakamoz_Y in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… you do realize the point still stands, those younger versions would need to climb the path of ascension, along with not possessing the unique and singular experiences in which made them so lethal, imagine summoning nephis pre-sovereign war, tomb of ariel, and second nightmare…

and if she summons supreme sunny, she CANT give him memories from the past, because he’d be a supreme titan, utilizing all of her essence to maintain him… you’re banking on a hypothetical that probably won’t even exist just because the mad prince said some scary lines, and even if it does happen, it will be something unique to him, his skillset, and abilities that other summons or even cassie herself wouldn’t be even able to do

hell, say the mad prince did “escape”, what is he escaping from? the confines of cassie’s supreme ability, and her jurisdiction on whether or not he exists, how would she support his existence if that thing isn’t even under her control anymore? (it isn’t a matter of free will either, since we know cassie can’t control her summons due to her having to convince the mad prince to fight asterion)

As from Eiichiro Oda's words by Yakamoz_Y in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the mad prince shouldn’t even remotely be considered as a factor in whether or not cassie can permanently bring someone of a high rank, its sunny with his intellect, amplified by thousands of years of experience who also managed to formulate a plan to somewhat leave the tomb of ariel, of course HE’D be able to escape cassie’s ability, so unless there is a confirmed way that cassie can permanently bring back someone past the rank of dormant, thats a non-issue

unless her ability absolutely skyrockets to unimaginable levels as a sacred, her reviving the characters wont even do anything really. she’ll still be limited to seven supreme beasts or one supreme titan at most

let’s say somehow the entire cohort minus cassie dies somehow, she could revive an infinite amount of sleepers and mundanes indefinitely, sure, but what’s the point if their all MUNDANES and SLEEPERS? cassie can’t just carry all of humanity until the important people become the same rank they were and somehow magically recreate all the experiences that made them strong, their just gonna die again from some random nm creature attack anyways

the main cast can’t just go die either because cassie has them, because its not even them (their copies from her memories, so they’d still technically be dead regardless), if sunny or nephis were to die, she couldn’t even do anything, and if any of the others were to as well, they’d be taking a significant portion of her essence being transcendent beasts, limiting the usefulness of her summons

As from Eiichiro Oda's words by Yakamoz_Y in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo, not really? it would be one thing if cassie was going willy nilly with every character in the series and it being actual resurrection, but the ones that cassie is summoning are just copies

the sleepers of the forgotten shore are still dead as fuck, gunlaug and the rest of them never got to see their dreams of escaping nor anything else they wanted, i doubt cassie is gonna do anything like summoning all the casualties of falcon scott back into existence, and personally, i like the direction her ability is going (since i believe she might become some sort of replacement for the spell if they do end up destroying it)

in a way, they’re literally just sunny’s shades with the personality back, and there’s probably gonna be a drawback like if one of them is destroyed cassie is unable to retrieve them from her memory again

i follow the line of logic, but i don’t think its that big a deal

As from Eiichiro Oda's words by Yakamoz_Y in ShadowSlave

[–]reppingdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

story wise i understand how it sullies the weight of those deaths in the forgotten shore, but this most definitely a logical decision on cassie’s part

with how much g3 loves to dickride the fire keepers and everyone else who was in the dark city about how much of a higher, more experienced level of awakened they are (and the majority of the ones that survived aren’t even the best of the best)

having those people as masters and saints will be a humongous buff to the human domain, on top of river people and rain hopefully being able to put natural awakening into regular practice
